Was crazy how the win seemed to keep bouncing back and forth between both players, I was surprised at the final outcome! only thing which kinda confused me was the Chaos wizard seemingly not casting much - did he cast anything other than that 1 final transmutation?

One of those things I don't particularly like about WH/WH2: one side has a few hundred guys left, the other side has exactly one. The one guy barely takes any damage, however, so cue chain routs to let the one guy win.
