Our Rich Journey - What Is the Perfect Stock Portfolio Mix - I'm Worried About Over-Diversification: We get a lot of questions about asset allocation and diversification. If you've been following us, you know that our primary investment is a total stock market index fund (VTSAX). But, we also invest in other sector ETFs, REITs, and even a small percentage of individual stocks. With all of our investments, we have to be strategic so that we aren't overlapping our investments (i.e., making everything redundant and too diversified). In this video, we talk about the perfect stock portfolio mix and how to address the issue of being too diversified.

I think SCHD is a great option to VTI. It has beaten VTI in the 1, 3, 5, and 10 yr. And has a yield twice as high. Definitely a great large value option.

Thx. Husb and I have had 2 diff financial advisors from big respected firms. Both good but first more ETF’s and new one more stock w/some ETFs. My husb is older and happy w/new one but I’m not for the very issues noted in this video. You said exactly what I want: simplicity with some coverage in future areas of high growth (incl for me fundamental changes to global monetary banking system.) I’ve done 20+ yrs of self learning of investing and co-ran sml biz now sold so past hand holding. PS: maybe do video o pros and cons of self investing/planning vs an advisor esp at diff levels of net worth, experience and age. I do think many benefit from an impartial voice to stop costly emotional money moves but in reality advisors always have some self interest. Edit: big fund cos like BlackRock now use powerful quantum computer. ✌️

Nice episode was wondering if you would consider doing a similar one on how to choose the best Food Commodities EFT. My father lived thru the great depression of the 1930's and said something to me as a child that I have never forgotten. No matter how bad the economy is people have to eat and it is the safest market sector to work in, ie you at least have a job or you can own your own grocery store. After the 1929 crash no one would invest in the stock market for a very long time and for many people of that era the rest of their lives. Things have changed since then but we can now invest in that sector of the economy. The only vexing questions is which ETF or fund is the best to invest in to protect yourself as a defensive position in the stock market ?

I have a good mix of stocks, ETFs and index funds in my portfolio and I’m looking at later buying a home in Japan to retire there. The biggest concern I have though is about how to move money to Japan. I will say maintain my portfolio accounts in the U.S as well as my major bank account which pays me a lot higher interest rate than I would get in Japan. I am also looking at how exchange rates work and may just keep my money all in the U.S. but then Inhave to concern myself with being taxed in Japan on money I move over to pay bills there too. What steps did you guys take to make your ‘finances’ move to Portugal?

I have 6 mutual funds and Roth that's in a low risk fund that USAA advised me in years ago. I stop contributing 4 of those mutual funds and only put money in VTSAX and FXAIX. I want to narrow my portfolio down and move my Roth into the S&P. I'm 43. I want to be aggressive in the market Should I do this and when? Do I sell now or later to put the money from the other funds in my index funds?
