  • With the implementation of the Initial Driver CPC qualification attaining your HGV or LGV licence has never been so challenging.
    This video has been created to give you an overview of what is actually involved in getting HGV entitlement. This video goes through the different licence types, Initial Driver CPC, medicals, theory training, theory tests, practical training and practical tests. Everything from Medical to Module 4.
    After having watched this video if you still want your LGV licence please go direct to a local training company as opposed to signing up with a broker. Just visit our website at www.nolgvbrokers.co.uk
    We hope you find this video both useful and informative.

    • @EPTrainingServicesLimited
      @EPTrainingServicesLimited  Před 9 lety

      Pretom Chakraborty Hi, thanks for your question. It's good that you already have provisional C, just check (online) to make sure the provisional cat C is still valid. Assuming it is, you will then need to do 3 theory tests, multi choice, hazard perception and the Driver CPC conversion Case Study test. Then do your practical training and testing on cat C and finally do your Mod 4. Once you have passed the Cat C send your licence to DVLA and you will it back with provisional C+E. To get your class 1 you just come back and do some driver training and testing. Should take about 10 weeks to complete.

  • @fastasfox
    @fastasfox Před 9 lety

    Thanks for taking your time to offer this advice to people like myself, nice video. Just to clarify if you go straight to a cat (C) licence do you still have to pass a test to drive (C1) plus (C1+e) and if so is that to include hazard perception / theory/ practical ie all 4 modules again? thanks.

    • @EPTrainingServicesLimited
      @EPTrainingServicesLimited  Před 9 lety

      fastasfox Hi. Thanks for your comments. In response to your questions. If you get the cat C then you will automatically be given the C1 (as you have passed the larger class of vehicle). If you want the C1E (7.5 tonnes with trailer) then that is a different test as you want the E (trailer) category. You might just consider doing the C and then C+E, That way you will automatically get C1E. You can also drive any class of HGV's. You will have to do Mods 1,2,3 and 4 if you want to get a licence to drive a goods vehicle over 3.5 tonnes commercially. That means being paid to drive. Hope this helps

I spoke to a local school and he quoted me inc cpc training( all 33 hrs i think) at £1500.00 I`m now waiting for my licence back so i can go do the assessment session with him. he did laugh at me when i told him what i had been quoted. Thanks.

    • @seanpargeter25
      @seanpargeter25 Před 9 lety

      Hi Ryan. Thanks for your comments. You have 2 options really. Do the C1 (over 3.5 but not more than 7.5 tonnes) or leapfrog the 7.5 tonnes and do the rigid, class 2 (over 3.5 tonnes but not more than 32 tonnes). It's the same process and normally about the same price. If you will only ever drive a 7.5 tonners then just do the C1 licence. It should be easier to pass your driving test in a C1 than a big rigid. Although if you might drive something bigger than a 7.5 tonnes in the future go for the class 2. The choice is yours!

    • @seanpargeter25
      @seanpargeter25 Před 8 lety +1

      +Darren T Hi. Thanks for your question. There is a bit of training and testing to do however in the bigger picture of things, you are changing your career and becoming a professional LGV driver. The training and testing is manageable and passable. The class 1 course will cost between £1,000 and £1,300 depending on where you go. Cheap is NOT better! Before you do class 1 you need to do class 2 and all that. I have been working in this industry for 20 years and the demand for drivers right now has never been so good (from a drivers point of view). Hope this helps

    Hi mate, just a quick couple questions... you say that if you pass 2 of the theory tests and fail 1 all you have to do is retake 1, is that the same as if you pass 1 and fail 2 you have to retake 2 because car theory you have to pass both parts???? and also if you apply for just a class C provisional do you automatically get a C1 on there as well???

    • @seanpargeter25
      @seanpargeter25 Před 9 lety

      Hi. OK it is different to the car theory test where you have to pass both elements to be awarded a pass. It's different for large vehicles. So if you pass 1 and fail 2. You only sit the 2 you failed. Also you will NOT automatically acquire C1 provisional just by applying for the class 2. You have to state (on D2) that you want C1 and C. Hope this helps. Sean

      +Aladdin Keykubat Thanks for your comments and glad the video helped. It's just a bit of a head's up on getting the LGV. I was not trying to be disrespectful to you or anyone else regarding their language abilities. I was referring (I think) to the Driver CPC Case Study theory test and the fact the Q&A are not available to study (in advance of the test). Therefore to pass you have to rely a lot on reading the Case Study scenarios at the test centre. Those who were new to the English language may have difficulties reading and understanding the paragraphs of text. Glad you got all your licences and good luck in the future. Peace out!

    • @seanpargeter25
      @seanpargeter25 Před 9 lety

      Hi Thomas. Thank for your comments. The 35 hours every 5 years concerns Driver CPC training. In the video above I talk about Initial CPC and NOT periodic (35 hours every 5 years). For all existing professionl drivers it means sitting in a classroom for 5 days and getting a DQC (Driver Qualification Card). Having just the entitlement on your driving licence is no longer sufficient to drive a truck for a living. From Wednesday (10th) everyone has to "have the card". It's an EU directive. The idea and concept is sound however at the moment it is just another box ticking exercise!!!

Yes as long as you have a UK driving licence (car) and can pass a medical. Then you do the theories and practical's.My friend has a U.S. CDL license and wanted to know if he will lose that CDL migrating to the UK... Yes.. Your friend would need to exchange their driving licence for a UK driving licence. When the DVLA create a UK licence your friend will only gain car entitlement and loose their CDL. They would need to do all the required medicals, theories, practical's etc...just like a new entrant. Hope this helps

      +Joel Liddle A couple of years ago you could have driven that crane on a standard car licence!! But it a rigid truck with a huge crane. The crane is for all intense and purposes plant so classed differently.

      Brian Richards Hello. If you passed before August 209 and you have NOT done any Driver CPC training so far, you can either do the 35 hours (5 days in a classroom, no exam) or do Modules 2 and 4. Module 2 is a theory test and Module 4 a practical test. You know what...............at the moment it's quicker and easier to do the 5 days. Believe me, it is. Once you complete your 35 you will get your Driver CPC card and you will be good to go. Visit www.nolgvbrokers.co.uk to find a good company in your area.

    what you dont say is about people with c e that can driver ridged and drawbar and still not have full ce entitelment like me ive been driving wagon and drag over 25 years with ce restricted to drawbar only not arctic ce

    • @seanpargeter25
      @seanpargeter25 Před 9 lety

      Fair point and you are right however I set this up for for new entrants as opposed to expereinced drivers. Sorry Wayne, perhaps I should do a video for those with the old class 3. The rules are now you could drive a drawbar to the test centre (on your own) and do a CE test. If you were to fail you could still drive home on your own. Crazy. However if you did pass your driving test on drawbar (old class 3) and did your new test on a drawbar (to remove any restrictions) you would be given full C+E entitlement, i.e you could drive an artic. Thanks for your comments.

    hi . i passed mod 3 today and the examiner didnt take my class c provisional licence. is this standard practice ? do i need to complete mod 4 to before getting my new licence. also , do i get a dqc card aswell as a new licence or just a dqc card ?

    • @EPTrainingServicesLimited
      @EPTrainingServicesLimited  Před 8 lety

      +Paul Matthews Ok I think you only have Mod 4 to do. You WILL need your driving licence to show as ID for your Mod 4 so I would suggest you do not book your Mod 4 till you get your licence back in your possession. The examiner really should have asked if you need to keep hold of your licence to do the Mod 4. No big deal though, you passed the hard bit (driving test). Just watch our Mod 4 vids on here. That should help a little.

    • @EPTrainingServicesLimited

      +Paul Matthews Use you driving licence for ID for the Mod 4. Once you have passed the Mod 4 send of your driving licence to DVLA for upgrading (along with your blue test certificate). You don't apply for your Driver PC card. It will automatically be sent to you once you pass Module 4.

    Hey Sean Pargeter I passed my multiple choice and hazard perception tests last week and training for C class starts end of this month! For anyone attempting the theory tests, I would strongly recommend downloading the 'LGV Theory Test & Hazard Perception' app by Deep River Entertainment. Certainly helped me and just practise as much as you can with mock tests and revision of each category of questions! Can't wait to start my training

    • @seanpargeter25
      @seanpargeter25 Před 9 lety +1

      Phen0mable The short answer is yes. There is plenty of work out there and a demand for HGV drivers. A lot of the older chaps have retied as a result of Driver CPC (last September) and the number of new entrants coming into the industry has been dropping for a number of years. Long gone is the requirement to have 2 years experience. Haulage companies need those loads delivered, whether you have the experience or not. Having said that employers DO prefer you to have experience, but in the current climate...it's not essential.

    I am 35 years of age and did my category C and category C+E eight years ago. Then shorty after that, I did the HIAB and ADR and I also have the CPC as I am a bus driver and have been for 14 years. My ADR allows me to drive petrol tankers and guess what, I can't get a job anywhere. So I have spent over 3 thousand pounds on the training, medical and tests and what a waste of time and money. My advice is, don't bother as you will regret it. I really wish I hadn't wasted my money. Biggest mistake of my life.

    • @EPTrainingServicesLimited
      @EPTrainingServicesLimited  Před 9 lety +1

      1100HondaCB Sorry to hear your experience getting work has not been so good. I am surprised someone as highly qualified as you have not been able to find employment as a driver to date. The petrol tanker work is what most drivers want to do as the money is good. As a result there are still a huge number of drivers going for a limited number of jobs. I would also say the HGV driver employment environment at the moment is very buoyant. There are lots of transport companies looking for drivers. It is a little different from 8 years ago. I see you drive buses so your experience of driving large vehicles should be spot on. My advice is keep putting the effort in and you will get a start driving trucks. Companies are even taking on newly qualified drivers as there are not enough HGV drivers with a minimum 2 years experience (that's what employers used to say). Don't take my word for it, look online and you will still loads of vacancies.

There is quite a bit to do in order to get your bus CPC and you should really contact a local bus training company in your area to see what they can do. Just visit www.nolgvbrokers.co.uk and enter your postcode...see who is in your area.

      Paul, it is not all doom and gloom. There are some drivers out there who love driving and do get a decent wage. I would agree however that overall drivers are underpaid. how much does one working at a supermarket make in UK . Just wondering the differences are than over here. Here you might make i dunno 150 pounds ($250 US) a week working at supermarket . New truck drivers here can make almost 490 pounds ($800 US) a week. Does it have to do with driving distances?

    those vehicles are not giving the pupils a real like for like your draw bar is in effect the 7.5 ton yeah the plate says one thing but in reality put a pupil in a proper 32 ton truck they really will have issues as with your draw bar outfit shocking people need to use an artic for class 1 and may be train if need be on how to connect a draw bar fair enough u making it easier for test with your type of vehicle but we wonder why company are reluctant to take new drivers on cus they know the secrets so to speak in getting your class 1 quicker or class 2 I.e using smaller vehicles to get there license if they can't pass a test in a proper artic truck then what chance they got turning up for work on agency they are given keys paperwork here u go m8 cracking on they not going to have a clue as when they come to do a delivery in a tight place they going to shit themselves

    • @seanpargeter25
      @seanpargeter25 Před 8 lety

      +John Challenor It's not a 7.5 tonner. It's plated at 12 tonnes. Why would you need to train on a 32 tonner to get your class 2 when most class 2's are 18 tonnes? And what do you say the draw bar is easier than an artic because it is not. Anyway we have invested in a new artic so people now have the choice. Company's prefer to take on driver with experience rather than being newly qualified not because they learn on a 12 tonner.

    • @grimreaperbadboy
      @grimreaperbadboy Před 8 lety

      +Sean Pargeter m8 I drove draw bars for years they are easy to drive why not use a artic?why use a small truck plated class 2 them things that are used are 7.5 ton plated for higher carrying weight it doesn't give a proper realistic to what they will drive not to mention the coupling is different

    • @grimreaperbadboy
      @grimreaperbadboy Před 8 lety

      I mean go into some places these days where a new driver who passed in a draw bar gets in artic doesn't have clue who things work then they struggle like mad reversing it why because they used a glorified 7.ton plated 18 ton with a trailor on its not realistic is it
