The health care system is increasingly promoting patient autonomy. If there is care that patients can receive or give themselves at home, this is the option favoured as opposed to having them remain in hospital or be required to return frequently. One example is intravenous antibiotic treatment at home; in this case, patients return home and self-administer intravenous antibiotics.
This undertaking requires a solid understanding of the administering technique to ensure patient safety and reduce the number of visits to the CSSS, Emergency, or Day Medicine Unit when they experience problems.
To properly prepare patients for this responsibility, they are given a brochure, and then a nurse from the Day Medicine Unit instructs them on their prescribed treatment and has them practise it. Patients self-administer a dose of antibiotics under supervision before going home.

After administering the last saline solution, do you not need to close the tube off (blue clip) before taping on your arm till next time?

Why didn’t she just dilute the drug to the NaCL solution?
