Thank you very much Tom for mentioning Dayna. It means a lot to me and her family. Dayna was my niece. All too often there is no mention of her. Again, thank you❤
I was an athlete, on my way to a half marathon, and suffered a leg injury as a result of domestic violence. I have watched every single video on Ryan’s recovery during my 7 months (and counting) of not being able to walk. His courage, perseverance, and strength have inspired me time and time again. Thank you Ryan for sharing your story, as I am sure I am not the only one you have helped and inspired. My heart is with all the victims.
I honestly think you're still an athlete, you never made the decision to stop, you didn't quit, you tragically had that decision made for you. I hope you're doing much better now and I wish you the best in recovery.
A very inspiring story...RYAN and his family are great examples of endurance and love....I hope each new day brings greater levels of comfort and recovery THANKS
I'm over 60 now and still wonder why seat belts aren't required on buses. Sorry, thought about this when I was 7 and I still don't get the cost/benefit argument. Ryan stay strong. Prayers. Go for it in sled hockey. You've already scored.
Exactly 3 days ago marks the one year anniversary of the fatal bush crash that killed 16 of the Humboldt Broncos. They are as follows: Tyler Bieber Jacob Leicht Adam Herold Glen Doerksen Darcy Haugan Brody Hinz Logan Boulet Logan Schatz Evan Thomas Jaxon Joseph Logan Hunter Parker Tobin Stephen Wack Conner Lukan Dayna Brons Mark Cross Gone, but not Forgotten
I live about two hours away from humboldt, and my brother plays hockey and his team went to the crash site and I was crying pretty bad but someone on his team didn’t have his parents there and his coach opened his arms and let him cry in his shoulder and that broke my heart.
This young man is a warrior, a true hero... His strength to pull though and keep going is outstanding! There is no word that can describe how amazing this young man is!
Being a hockey player. I went to Ottawa. Went on a tour bus with my team. Then 2 months later this happened. I looked at my mom and said “what if this happened to us.” She was worried. I pay my respects to the humboldt broncos.💛💚
Ugh I cry like a baby anytime someone says Humboldt, or Broncos. Words can’t explain the pain i feel for the families of those lost, as well as the survivors. What an incredible story that has come from such a terrible tragedy. A tragedy that struck us all, struck us hard and cut us deep. What an inspiration Ryan and his family are to all of us still hurting after the events that took place one year ago today. Keep your chins up and your spirits high. Your ambition is strong. 💚💛💚💛
Ryan, I have thought about you and your teammates many times over the last year and have wondered how you all are doing. I was so glad to come across this. You have such a great attitude and are an inspiration!
Ryan, you are such an amazing young man and a true inspiration!!!!! My heart goes out to you and your family, I can’t even begin to understand what you’re going through. Much love to you and your beautiful family ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ryan, I wish you well in Thailand. Thinking of you and your family and sending strong positive vibes for your operation. We will all be here in Canada waiting for you to return. Can’t wait to see you on the ice again! ❤️ 🇨🇦 🏒
Ryan Boulet was my a teacher at my schools nephew, we had green shirt day today, to spread organ donation awareness, as Ryan Boulet did donate his and saved 6 people lives 💚💛
Atta boy Straz!!! Keep fighting and getting stronger! I'll be cheering you on when you play for our Nation at the Paralympics. Major shout out to Erica for sticking by his side!
This was a heart breaking day. This was all over the news as I live in Alberta. My teacher knew someone who died in the crash, the next day and for days after that at every game the WHL team that lives where I do had a moment of silence. It’s crazy that it’s been a whole year. All of you boys are strong, and remember that those other boys are watching over everyday❤️❤️
Ryan Boulet was my a teacher at my schools nephew, we had green shirt day today, to spread organ donation awareness, as Ryan Boulet did donate his and saved 6 people lives 💚💛
Out of unbelievable pain grows incredible determination! A hearty round of hockey sticks hitting the ice goes to Ryan and ALL the other Humboldt Bronco "survivors" who have faced the worst and transformed that into a positive, although now much different, life!
There’s more to a person than his or her legs.... wow. Just wow! Everything you have been through and not given up, I’m sure you have had moments of anger and weakness, but what an amazing young man and a positive role model for other young kids to aspire to! Keep up the great work, and cheers to continual healing!
Wonderful video Calgary Herald. I'm probably never going to meet this young man. But I have to say that Ryan gave me the courage to finally see that I'm OK with who I am. And because of that. The weight started to come off. One year later. I'm down 70 pounds. Thank you for making me believe Ryan!!! And I can't wait to watch Ryan play sledge hockey for that gold medal.
As a hockey parent I can only imagine the challenges. Each new day is a gift and I guess that is the message here. The past is the past, today is the present and the future is uncertain, so make each day count. Thank you for posting. I have been off work for over a year with a serious concussion, this helps me to keep going and appreciate what I can do.
The strength, drive and determination this young man has is so inspiring. I admire the strength of his parents, especially Mama Straz ❤️ Thank you Calgary Herald for this amazing story.
Thank you to you and your entire family for continuing to share your story. I always feel like I have gotten help after seeing one of your stories. It helps me to keep fighting. So, again, thank you.
You have such a amazing family amazing girlfriend ... your a very strong person ... with strong people that have your back ... good for you for stayin strong and good luck in the future with your sled hockey ... BRONCO STRONG .... CANADIAN STRONG ..... god loves his children
Take a second to think how much worse it would be for these young men if we had the US system of healthcare...there would be no one to sue as they would have gone out of business, the insurance liability limit on the truck would have maxed out...next would be the families going bankrupt.
Far North Not everything in Canada is covered though. Physical therapy generally isn’t and some tests aren’t covered either. Medication and ambulances can easily cost thousands. Of course it’s still better than the USA.
Far North....Or that the owner of the trucking company didn't get a day in jail. Just the usual small dollar fine. Where's the 50,000 outraged business savvy commenters on 30 videos? I've yet to find one in the last 6 videos and over 700 comments. These kids died in vain. But zippo "bigger picture" awareness about this tragic event.
Ryan your inspiring people you never thought you could!!! Keep going man! Through this journey you will realize what people take for granted and you will be stronger for that! Stronger then you were before mentally and physically!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Don’t worry We left the light on for the stick out by the door My whole hockey team had a moment of silence to honor them a year later and I’m only 10 That shows how serious it was
Man....I didn't even know about this until I came across it on tiktok. I'm so sorry about the loss of so.many loved ones, and team mates. This touched my heart when I watched all the videos. Sending prayers and hugs to you all.
