During break in period vibration is worst. But after 3k km... vibration stabilizes.
I just got a 2019 one, the vibrations, are certainly a-LOT better now. They must have adjusted some things.
Cracking review mate, sat on one earlier today and a strong contender for my first bike
Thank you man! Decent bike for a first :D
That countryside view though.
sk8urmind1 views are great around here 👍
How can you "test" a bike, if you only drive 60 straight forward. Sorry for my English, I am German, and I love my Kawasaki Z650, especially on fast lanes, acceleration and corners.
I am not driving at 60 straight forward, i went on some mountain roads that test acceleration, brakes, suspension and speed. I only have the bike for an hour, so 30 mins in one direction before having to make my way back. The more interesting roads are further away from me
had my 1st DAS lesson on one of these today and it just felt wrong..I'm only 5/11 with average length legs and I felt scrunched up...foot kept riding the back brake and had to virtually let go of the grip to cancel indicators..maybe I'll get used to it but on 1st evidence don't think I'll be getting one as a 1st bike..
nice and simple bike
Thanks for your review. What's your feeling on going from the z650 2018 to z900 2018?
Thanks for the reply it's down to how much I want to spend and how much power I want .I have been without a bike for about seventeen years but I'm going to do a 1 day refresher course just to be on the safe side.I want a bike that I can keep for a good numbers of years and not get bored off so I maybe leaning more toward the Z900
Very true, it's whatever you are comfortable with. No harm in having a refresher, not always the best to go straight into the deep end. The z650 is more of a beginners bike, more leaned towards riders who have just passed their full test or A2 licence as its compatible with being restricted. The z900 is laid back but has plenty of power to offer when needed and easy to use at low speeds
love that motor sound...pizza bang
This is something i miss in all review video from any Vlogger:
scoring the build quality while showing it and explaining the cockpit.
Greets from Germany
Twil Thank you for the feedback 😁 Glad you enjoyed
It's nice to hear a Welsh accent in a bike review I was born in Newport and moved to Australia great review but I must say the Yamaha is going to be hard to beat we have a lams version 655cc and your version mt07 I have subscribed to your channel all the best Phil from OZ
Not a great deal of us that vlog down in wales, so i agree it is nice to hear a welsh accent :P The yamaha's are great all rounder bikes even from stock but chuck a bit of money at it and it improves so much! Thank you
I bought this bike I absolutely love it! I ride in London everyday. Just waiting to brake it it
Great man! Enjoy
Yeah would be nice to know more about the vibrations as I'm thinking about getting one later.Does this bike cruise comfortably at 80 mph as I will be using for commuting on motorway.Or I might save up a bit more money and go all out on a Z900 but I'm sure not what the fuel consumption is like on the Z900 do you?
Well no one else has reported problems with vibrations on the z650 (according to official reviews and other youtubers reviews), so i don't know whether it was a problem with the bike i test rode. Yeah the bike will comfortably sit at 80mph, it does 4500rpm@60mph so at 80, there will be barley any stress on the engine. The z900 just has a lot more grunt down low, so getting to 80 will be a decent bit quicker. Fuel consumption on the z900 is around 50mpg (all depends on how you ride it), so around 140miles on a 17 liter tank
Hi, I have ridden 2 of these as the first one had the vibrations as you describe, pretty severe through the seat, pegs and bars around 4 to 6k. I rode a 2nd one at another dealer and it too had the same vibrations, not quite as bad, but I can't live with it through the handlebars. Shame as the bike is gorgeous, handles superbly, has plenty of oomph and fits me at 5'4 and 7 stone! I also rode the SV650....lovely engine but very harsh suspension. I rode the MT07 too, it is super smooth and did everything extremely well, but is a little bigger than the other Z and sv. The dealer reckons it's due to the 180 degree crank but the honda 500 has this too and they are very smooth!
I'm glad someone else had the same issue, was thinking it was just me. I rode a ktm duke 690 recently which is a single and didn't have anywhere near the same amount of vibrations. Something is up with them! Haven't ridden he sv650, will try and somehow get a ride on one of them.
I've read and watched LOTS of reviews and at this point, many of the reviews have mentioned the vibrations. Some think it's not that big a deal, unless you are cruising at 80MPH and others just seem to hate it. But it does seem as though the vibration is much more than the SV and the FZ/MT-07. I'm still interested in testing it though.
whats the fuel range.as for test riding one,my local dealer for past 20 years,as been ignorant. for test rides.cradley heath kawasakis.
Supposedly 165 mile range according to MCN but all depends how you ride it. Dealers can be like that. My local Kawasaki is great, no problem letting you test ride even but my local Yamaha is awful for test rides, my next local one is fine about it though!
Hi thanks for review 👍 which is better this or ninja 650. a. R feelings is the same ?
I would defiantly go for the ninja 650 over this
I just can't decide between the FZ-07, SV650, CB650f, and the Z650. Rode the '16 FZ, and it didn't feel well in the twisties.
My problem with the MT-07, 09, and 10 is with the bulbous engine casings. I've sat on them in the showroom and my right leg constantly hits the casing. It sticks out way too far. I'm not into burning my leg everytime I come to a stop.
Never heard someone saying they burnt their leg on an engine casing. My MT-09 has plastic casing over the top from stock so it is doesn't get warm and never had a problem with burning my leg. They get warm but never to burning level of heat .... think of it has a radiator for you shins ;)
BigBenMotoVlogs..... the point is they stick out too far, on the right mostly, for anyone with a decent inseam. When coming to a stop you have to train yourself where to plant your feet, assuming you can. not a fan of people that tip-toe at stops. Tend to give them a wide berth. Kawasaki tends not to have that problem, but Yamaha does. I think their engine designs are ugly.
Doesn't bother me anyway, must have trained myself like you said
after watching this review and your review on the z900 I'm looking forward to the next. You should take this up as a living. Proper top range reviewing. It could definitely be a profession of yours. Great video yet again.
I have a few on my list i am wanting to do :D I wish i could, would love doing this kinda thing! Thank you
BigBenMotoVlogs it also helps Mike is such a great guy down M&P's. let me take the Z1000sx out twice.
lucky u.
How do you compare the ride and performance of this compared to the Honda CB 500X? I do understand that the Honda would be down on power. Thanks for a detailed and honest review!
Thank you :D I haven't ridden the Honda CB500X, maybe one of my other viewer would be able to give you an answer. Looking at spec wise, the cb500x is an "adventure bike" so it is probably going to be a lot more comfortable but it's not going to preform like the z650 as it's 10kg's heavier, down on power and torque due to the smaller CC engine
Thanks Ben!
If, by any chance, you get to lay your hands on the new Suzuki SV650A, I would like to hear your opinion on it.
I am going to have a chat with my yamaha/suzuki dealer soon to see if they would allow me to. If i do, then i will let everyone know :D
BigBenMotoVlogs that sounds great I want to hear your thoughts on the 2017 650 vstrom!
Dean Lee Will add it to my list 🖒
I've ridden the MT-07, ER6, and I own an SV650A. I have done 13,000 km on it and I think it's great. It doesn't handle that good, a bit wallowy, but the brakes are good and progressive, and the engine is just fantastic. Whereas the MT-07 had masses of torque down low, which for me, made it tricky to ride in town, just a small twist and you were already going too quickly. The SV is nice up to 4500 rpm, which is perfect for around town, and then after that the engine takes off real nice. It vibrates, but it's not a buzzy vibe, more of a kick in the pants thump vibe. Fuel consumption is great too...I have had a best of 29.9 km per litre. The clutch assist is useful when you don't wanna stall it in the middle of a junction, and the one press start up is also nice to have. I would say it's a very good all round bike.
ewooll Thanks a lot! The mellow/weak front suspension is a common comment that I get from other SV riders, too... Having also ridden a MT-07, can you compare both? I've heard the front suspension of MT-07 is also very "scary". I am trying to decide between SV650A and MT-07 and I'm weighing towards SV because of the design element & the V-Twin engine but I'd really apreciate a comparison from a rider who has driven both bikes.
When you said "lots of vibrations", Is it negative or bad at all? Reason not to consider this bike?
I wouldn't be able to stand that amount of vibration but a lot of people have been saying that their bike doesn't have that vibration. It a good starter bike overall
I've seen dozens of videos from different people ridding the Z650 and none of them speaks about vibrations besides the normal ones that EVERY bike has, but none as bad as you mention. Leads me me to think that the bike you tested might have some sort of defect .
It is a possibility, i was also one of the first people to ride that bike and i think whatever the issue was is solved now
Several of the reviews I've read and watched do talk about excessive vibrations including a comparison review done by a major magazine. For me it may not even be an issue do to the bikes I've ridden throughout my life. I may find it smooth...
nice look at the bike dude i wouldn't mind a closer look at these bikes
they look cool
Thanks dude! These reviews are getting good reception so far :P They have got the styling spot on on the Z range this year!
yeh they look really good last time i was @ m&p they had a stunning orange one there but cant remember if it was the 900 or 600 but it was very nice ;-)
TinMan Both of them don't come in orange but the z1000sx does 🖒A lot of people at the launch night were complimenting the orange colour
yeh its a striking color looked very nice :-)
I heard that the z650 has one less hp than the er6n but more torque, which makes more sense. but iguess that the euro 4 stuff would effect the performance a lil
Z650 is down on hp and torque over the er6n but the big factor is that the z650 is 20kgs lighter! Euro 4 shouldn't effect performance but it does effect price as pretty much all euro 4 models are a higher price than their euro 3 models
The vibrations in the 2018 Z650 are really that bad?
Not sure, i think it was just this bike as other people didn't feel any vibrations
This is the first review on this bike that has mentioned vibrations and there are a lot of vids on this bike.Maybe the bike isn't set up right on the rear shock or the bike needs breaking in more
simon40sp I think something wasn't right on the bike, will find out from them in my next test ride to find out what's up 🖒
Loved the review Ben! Liked the z900 better though... but I do have a question for you... I currently have a 2015 Z300, and will of course go for my full license. Do you recommend a 650 or a 900 as a follow up? I've had lessons on a ER6N, have ridden a Z750 before (yeah naughty me:)), and now I do not know what to do....
I liked the z900 more to ;) Well it all depends on how confident you are, the z650 will be a good step up from the z300. The z750 is similar weight to the z900 and not to far off similar bhp/torque figures, were you happy riding it?
BigBenMotoVlogs yep, i loved riding the 750, feit confident too:) felt like i had much more bike to control and use...
Well the z900 sounds like the bike for you but at the end of the day, the choice is yours :D The bigger bikes give you that feeling, makes you feel planted to floor
BigBenMotoVlogs ah thank you! well luckily for me i've got a few more months to think about it:) And maybe after that, the KTM Superduke 1290R....??:P
Tessa Leegwater Plenty of time then 🖒 I was looking at the ktms yesterday, stunning 😍😍
The Kawasaki 650 twin it's a good motor. Cheap maintenance too. I wish they'd bump it to 750 though, but this motor is their baby, like the Honda 700 motor. in multiple bikes and styles.
They aimed it at someone first big bike after they pass, that's why the ER6n was a popular bike for instructors to use in their schools
BigBenMotoVlogs .... My Ninja 1000 was nice, but my Interceptor was more fun and a bit more comfy to my ergos. Had character.
You seem to test a lot of Kawasaki. Love to see you demo a Z900RS. I don't know if you have them there but they're new to the U.S. for 2018. Looks like a fun UJM.
I will yes, once the warmer comes back around march time. Will also be testing the H2 SX once it comes in
Kawasaki appear to have designed the industrial estate in Swansea to match their new z650 👍
Got to blend in somehow with the Swansea crowd :P
what mic camera set up do you use?
Its all in the description and i have a video on it sometime last year. Its only basic but it works very well. Basic Dagee lapel mic that is behind my right cheek and a gopro hero 4 silver
Awesome review! Thank you :)
Are the vibrations pretty severe on the back end ? I use bikes for commuting and was looking at the z800 (been replaced by this as you told me before) - and am now stuck between the MT07 or this 🤔
Anonymous Biker I am not sure if all of them are like this, i was the first person to test ride it and they said that no one else has brought that issue up. It was pretty bad when decelerating, for the rest of it, there were no problems. With first impressions, the mt07 is much more impressive than the z650 🖒
BigBenMotoVlogs - were there any noticeable vibrations anywhere else like through the handle bars or foot pegs while riding or was it all in the seat/back end? Thanks for the review.
Sir Slice No, then rest of the bike was fine. Just the back end that was causing the problem 🖒
Good honest review mate. Bike looks lovely but think it falls short of the MT-07. The MT-07 is not "vibratey" ;-)
BikerSi Thanks pal 🖒 Totally agree with you, I don't see it outselling the mt07 anytime soon. There is small vibration through the handlebars with the mt but it has all in the rear with the 650, right through the seat 😣
Yeah I wouldn't fancy a numb arse. You booked the Brutale yet? ;-)
BikerSi Haha no not yet, will be sending some emails around soon 🖒🖒
Decent video. However, for a bike with a top speed of 120mph, it was a shame you barely got it up to 60mph. What's it like for safe overtakes (50-70mph) on the open road etc. Ride safe.
I cut most of the higher speed stuff but most the roads that i go on with my reviews they are a bit dodgy to speed on. The engine/bike can cope easily with overtakes
Thanks BigBen, kind regards.
yo ben this or mt07, what to buyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Israel Santos MT-07 without question
If it is worth anything, My closest dealer has 2 2017 z650's left, at $1000.00 off usd, but no MT-07"s
nice Video ;) Topspeed ?
Thanks man! 125mph stated by MCN
Damn the bikes are cheap in the UK.. This costs 10700 quid over here in Norway!
Wow really!
Yep! The government taxes the registration fee by 60%... Its quite silly.
Weird that it's so vibby the ER6N wasn't vibey and neither is my ER6F. They obviously cocked something up. The engine breaking on them is no joke, I hardly need to use my breaks.
Moto Joshing I noticed it as soon as he turned the bike on, I did mention it when I got back. The engine breaking is more than my 07! The part of the review that I mentioned it, I did not use the brakes at all 😄
Yeah will have to let you ride me bike so you can compare after you do the ninja 650 review
Moto Joshing Yeah cool man, your not to far away from tinman right?
BigBenMotoVlogs is yeah I live in Caerphilly and work in Cardiff so not far really.
Moto Joshing Ah not far, will sort a meet up soon 🖒
My driving school had z650s.
I like the looks of the bike but that all goes down the drain due to the vibrations in the chasis when getting higher in the rpm range.
Also the wind you get in your face over 70 mph was ruining it for me but thats just a naked bike thing I guess
Agree with you on the vibrations, totally put me off it. Wind is a problem with all naked but put a sports screen on there and it solves it
By the way, those are beautiful roads but I'd rather ride a cruise on them than that 650...lol. Bandit 1250 would launch on those country roads, in full tour dress.
They are great roads out that way, fun to play on but have to watch for tractors and sheep
Wew
It's am amazing bike but I wouldn't want one? Lol what? How is it a great bike if you don't like it and wouldn't have one?
It is a great bike for beginners, for someone on a budget or someone who wants to upgrade from an older er6n but personally myself i wouldn't own one. Just because i don't like the bike it doesn't mean that everyone else will hate it
Some people said that it acutally feels like it has less torque than the previous model, do you agree? Also which one did you find better? Ninja 650 or the Z650
I haven't ridden the previous model, a few guys i rode with on the last meet have the er6f, was ment to have a quick ride on one but forgot to in the end. On paper they are roughly the same specs wise with the er6n higher on hp but lower on torque. I much preferred the ninja 650, felt much more of a solid bike
Thanks for the answer, I am trying to choose between the mt 07 and the ninja 650 and was leaning more towards the ninja due to the fact that 80% of my 30 mile commute is motorway and it has a fairing.
Yeah you are a bit more protected with the ninja but the mt07 does a great job of it as well, recently did about 4-5 hours worth of motorway for a bike meetup and the mt07 did not complain once
Looks a bit tacky. Too much unnecessary plastic. Hideous plastic shroud at the front.
I like the SV650 best. More grown-up. And it's the fastest despite being the heaviest, although there isn't much difference in the performance.
The MT-07 looks so underwhelming in the 'flesh', and I suspect the Z650 does, too.
4,500 rpm at 60 mph in top. As I suspected, it gets its top gear grunt from being undergeared.
60kph on 6th gear? seriously?? dude you have to learn first proper gear shift :)
looking at side of the road and accent..... that will probably be mph not kph i think
@@adamchc3701 its mph thats brit
