Selego they accidentally showed nightmare on elm street at the cinema when I was 6 instead of how to train your dragon. I was traumatised .
It wasn’t great but a fun watch. Octavia Spencer was clearly having a blast.
Honestly I think the movie is absolutely going to be an awful watch but she's the only reason why I want to see it because like you said she's an Oscar winner she's an amazing actress and if she's in this it's probably hilarious on purpose

Ramona Flowers I'm very sure Octavia has a lot of fun playing the role she did and come out of her comfort zone. I guess the movie could have been a lot stronger if the kids in it were a bit smarter in their decisions.
Beyond worth seeing. Fun time, ending was kinda whack but well worth it for me.
It's not cringy. It's definitely not a slasher though. You dont get to any of the horror elements that ppl usually enjoy until almost the end. But Ma is creepy as fuck and Octavia Spencer does an AMAZING job as expected. The kids are just stupid as fuck. They make really bad decisions so I think its bad bc the writing. But even the acting from the "kids" is good too.
The kid's where unlikeable while I liked Octavia's character 😭😭😭

@Death Omen in movies usually when they have like main character groups, they wont have more than one poc and it was a play on that.
@Toxic GamerZ the whole thing in and of itself is racist. The fact that these movies only allow for one poc (usually black) within the main group of kids is messed up. Sadly, things haven't changed much
I think Ma locked her daughter upstairs to prevent her from having the same shitty high school experiences.

So I had watched the movie on Saturday with my mom and I was able to catch, towards the end, Ma ran over Mercedes because of how she was treating Maggie's mom in the casino. She actually mentions it when Maggie's mom confronts her in the store about how Ma needs to stay away from her daughter. Ma starts muttering that she can't believe she got rid of Mercedes for her. Maggie's mom used to be friends with Sue Anne, much like how Maggie is friends with Genie. The reason why Sue Anne was mad at Maggie's mom (forgot her name in the movie) was because she was a bystander when the prank went on. This lead to Ma to be more lenient towards her but with the store confrontation that changed her view on her. That also hints to why Ma said that last part about Maggie's mom being weak and Maggie proving that she's not like her mom.
Um tldr: don't sexually assault people and surprised pikachu face when they aren't mentally stable later.
I mean it kinda sucks for the movie to put out the message that trauma and rape survivors turn into homicidal creeps

Her whole motive is they assaulted her. So instead of taking revenge on them she goes after their kids?? And is blatantly written as mentally unstable? That’s not a good message.

If your only take away from this is the actions of what Ma does in the film, instead of what obviously drove her there, then that's the issue

You should think about doing a review of Black mirror season 5 or better yet I am mother. Both from Netflix. And both showing that Netflix's can do very good things. Great video.
Tbh season 5 SUCKED imo. The other seasons were infinitely better. Season 5 just felt like it was filmed for the sake of filming it. No depth, nothing interesting. Just a mess. I haven't seen I am mother yet though.

@@deeleigh1626 idk I liked the shift - it gave thought-provoking episodes without unnecessary gore. Maybe a little toned down, but still good content. The last one is my favorite by far and it's the most original for Black Mirror, I think
@@strabababerry My favorite was 'Men Against Fire". I guess I like the darker toned 'Tales From the Crypt' style of storytelling. I can't really put my finger on what I didn't like about this season. Maybe it just felt too direct. Like they were placing something in my lap instead of sending me on a journey. I don't know. Didn't do it for me. Glad you liked it though. Different preferences...Maybe
next season will be a hybrid of both styles and we can all be happy.

Ma definitely locked her daughter up so she didn't live those same traumatic experiences as a teen. The use of the Munchausen by proxy syndrome, seems like a figurative leash or jail cell to keep her trapped but safe in her own twisted way... (noted even from the bars on the door she locked on her daughter in a scene he showed here)
