  • Trump attorney Todd Blanche spent the day trying to undermine Michael Cohen’s credibility and motives. The dramatic highlight of Cohen’s three days on the stand came just before lunch.
Blanche suggested Cohen fabricated testimony about a call on Oct. 24, 2016, at 8:02 p.m. in which Cohen said he told Trump he’d completed the $130,000 hush money deal for Stormy Daniels. He also said Cohen placed the call through Trump’s bodyguard, Keith Schiller, who gave the phone to his boss.
With a rising voice, Blanche pointed out that Cohen described the call for the first time in court this week. Citing text messages at the time, Blanche suggested that Cohen’s real reason for contacting Schiller was to complain about prank phone calls from a 14-year-old.
Earlier, Blanche grilled Cohen about his two separate guilty pleas in 2018, lies he told in congressional testimony, and varying accounts of whether he sought a presidential pardon from Trump. Blanche also sought to depict Cohen as a vengeful employee who was upset with Trump for having spurned his entreaties to work in the White House in 2017.
