The way they *glide* out of that tunnel is like they're on an escalator. And to Mr. Drum Major: *Your backbend is EVERYTHING!!!* John LaVange is the only other drum major that I've seen (and of course I've not seen them all) who can do a back bend like that without spreading the legs. Kudos to you Sir and the entire TBDBITL.

I know, right? I just got done watching a video taken by a band member's GoPro during a pregame performance. They really do march that smoothly. The camera didn't bounce up and down at all. Pretty cool how they can do that!

I’d love to know how they do that smooth walk. It’s fascinating to me. And that’s a great description… like coming down an escalator.

It's all in the step. They point their feet to reduce the bounce. Kind of easier to see with the white shoe covers. Which incidentally makes it so much easier to see if someone is out of step. It was a point of pride to have your shoes stand out for that reason. Well at least during my HS days.

As a former PSU Blue Band member, I really enjoyed they made the Blue Band PSU (with the pointy s) the way we do. B1G bands always show respect.

Can we just take a moment and appreciate the stamina it would take to do these performances? Their feet and legs are in constant motion, even if they're staying in one place. They have to have the lung capacity to play the instrument while quickstep matching into the various formations. They have to manage all this while executing the formations, being in the right place at the right time, being able to instantly adjust to any unforseen circumstances that may happen. You gotta be pretty athletic to make the grade in this band, and Mr. Drum Major REALLY has to be in top condition to do the stuff he does. It's a pretty amazing accomplishment to make the grade here.

@@me-ib1zo I love football, always have. For some unknown reason one day a video of drum major auditions for Ohio came across my feed. I've kinda been obsessed with this band since that day lol. I was a girl jock in HS and college and never gave a lot of thought to band people. But watching these videos made me realize that these kids are not only musicians, but athletes as well. Where was your band camp and what instrument do you play? Lol, I've even watched 'Drumline' probably 10 times since I became a Buckeye band fan because the process fascinates me so much. I'd love to read your experience if you have time to share it. Thanks for your response and stay hydrated in that heat!

@@superdill6665 only 1 year marching in hs as an alto sax, but from my experience, even in new england temps, it still got over 100 degrees consistently during band camp (marching band gets together to practice a week before the school year starts). we would just repeat sets (each move) slowly for hours. got sunburned but it was really fun. playing at games was fun, and i’m really looking forward to sophomore year
