It is heart wrenching to hear of how some of the BBC series that could have been recovered is now just a memory as old films of Pathfinders which starred Ben Jackson himself, Michael Craze just rotted away. But here is the kick in the balls with this victory. Also recovered was all 6 episodes of The Web of Fear and mysteriously episode 3 just walked away!!!!

53 of his 119 episodes are still missing, not counting the later specials (Three Doctors, Five Doctors, and Two Doctors). So about 45% is still gone. However, as bleak as that sounds, there were 75 Troughton episodes missing at the end of 1978. With Phil Morris' finds, we now have over half of the original Troughton episodes back in the archives.

They won't. It's pretty much impossible. There is still 97 missing episodes left. 97! Not too mention there is only so many places they have to look. Plus they have a time limit since film does not last forever. As seen in this video where one of the rolls had dissolved into mush. Homemade video recordings were not possible in the 60's so we can't count on that. At this point any missing episodes they find is a miracle. But it will take the invention of actual time travel to get them all. I'm just happy that they all still exist in audio form. I still find that amazing to this day.

Although, if it turned out it wasn't a Doctor Who but instead a missing Dad's Army episode, that would be just as great.

There might be some in private collections somewhere, or there may be some remote outposts of TV Land as yet unreached by the Beeb. But I kind of doubt it; there are still some 90 or so half-hours, primarily from the Hartnell and Troughton years, still not completely recovered. Recreations or animated versions would appear to be the only solutions at this point.

Hm, i mean, there had to be just a few persons back then recording it? Dont know how that was back in the 60s, but the show had a good fanbase even back then, maybe the BBC should made a bigger effort on finding people who recorded the episodes back then. Atleast thats the hope i had, thinking about finding the missing episodes. Announce it in TV and Papers or so, because these people(if they exist) will be a fair bit older now.

domestic video recording was VERY primitive
I believe one recording was found, of The Space Pirates episode 2, which exists anyway, and was in a completely unwatchable condition
Most people recording were recording onto audio tape, which is why we have all the soundtrack CD releases (which are out of print right now for some reason)

Doctor Who was shown around most of the commonwealth back in the 60s. The broadcasters would buy them and the BBC would send them copies in the post. No digital files back then! But it was a bit more complex because the BBC didn't want to be making new films for every sale. So they created a bicycling system. 5 countries could buy a story and the BBC may only make 2 prints, because once New Zealand finished showing the film, they would post it to Singapore, then Singapore would send it to Zambia. What we Who fans are hoping is that like Nigeria, the prints got forgotten and left in archives. Nigeria has sent back more missing episodes than any other country (besides Canada who sent back colour versions of Pertwee stories). Which is great but also worrying as it suggests that was the last stop for a lot of stories and if they are no longer in Nigeria, they may be gone. The Nigerian man saying he should destroy the episodes suggests he has done it before. And if there are only 2 prints in existence, Australia was efficient in sending back and destroying, he could have ended any hope for some episodes. There is nothing to find.
