    Its funny I am more into thrash singing and Death metal singing but I was so bummed when they let Joey go. Joey was the only Metal singer back in the 80's I liked. I was still really into Hardcore and just getting into metal but man I loved Joey's singing it made Anthrax to my ears. So when he came back I was super excited. And I would have to say since I have been playing guitar Scott is my favorite Rhythm guitar player out there huge influence on my playing

    They should do an album with Joey like they did with John and have Joey sing some Bush era material. Maybe not a song like "Only", but songs that use higher registers like "Room for One More" or "Random Acts of Senseless Violence", I think those would sound awesome with Joey.

    On the one hand, though I know he had his own problems going on that didn't help things, it is messed up what happened to Joey originally. On the other hand, I'm glad that the John Bush era happened. I wouldn't have wanted that to NOT happen. And I still feel to this day that their original reunion with Joey in the 2000s, and expecting John to just be cool with doing the two singer nostalgia tour, was pretty messed up too. John had invested a lot of time and a lot of himself into Anthrax, and then they want to do an 80s tour with Joey all the sudden. I don't blame him for not wanting to do that.
    If I'm honest, I have mixed feelings now. I think that Joey has done a great job on these last two records. And I'd certainly rather than him than that toolbox Nobody Nelson. But part of me will always wish that John never left the band. Because as good as Joey can be, and as much as I love classic Joey Anthrax, I got into the band when John was the singer. I love both eras, but I feel like there was still a lot more they could have done with John.

    Scott is only telling half the truth here about Joey. Scott and Charlie saw grunge popping off, and other bands like Metallica and Megadeth trying to be current, so they did the exact same thing. Scott blames it on his relationships, and that's part of it, and supposedly Joey was drinking too, but they also did it for commercial popularity. They had one really great record, Sound of White Noise, then three records which didn't do so well. When Metallica suggested a big 4 concert, they got Joey back. They actually had another singer that was not Joey or Jon at this time, but Joey coming back gave them the shot in the arm they needed, and they were able to reboot. I really wish they never would have ditched Joey, but it is what it is.

  • @ArtHoward
    @ArtHoward Před 8 lety +21

    I think what happened was singers like Eddie Vedder and Scott Weiland became more popular. Hetfield sings lower, too. The high pitched style of guys like Robert Plant and Joey was seen as `70's and `80's, so to stay "relevant" they had to adapt and got John Bush. It made them look like sellouts and they lost status for several years, though.

      He made the error of not realising that the contrast between the music and vocals on POT was what made it special and so effective. He took the most unique thing about the band and threw it out.
      He didn't realise they were big enough that the world would adapt to their style rather than adapting to the world's style.
      Also, Joey does Bush stuff better than Bush does Joey stuff and being as big of a pro as he is I'm sure he could have met Scott in the middle anyway.

    When they fired Joey I lost all interest. Worst decision they made. Killed their momentum. They could've ridden out the 90's alongside the other big 3 but instead they ended up playing clubs to 100 people and carrying their own gear through the crowd.

    Scott should admit that the firing of Joey was because he's envy to Pantera's success with Phil as vocalist, Scott wanted a Phil Anselmo type of singer to compete, Joey is great but he has a softer voice. Sound of White Noise was purposely written with a different vocals in mind. In my opinion that's behind it all..

    I like SOWN but its the only Anthrax album I like with Bush. I don't entirely blame Bush for this either because I think he is a good vocalist. The song writing went down hill. Stomp 442 being one of their worst albums ever. I'm glad Joey is back and he never sounded better.
