  • @TheCrazyGamer

    Not a graphical difference but fun fact... the switch port of Team Sonic Racing is missing the opening CGI cutscene that is present in every other version.

    • @2fernandoc1
      @2fernandoc1 Před měsícem +16

      I believe they said they didn't have enough cartridge space, but they never added it in the digital version or added it as a free update/patch

    • @judahfalls7704
      @judahfalls7704 Před měsícem +9

      It is to save on the Switch tax. By removing the CGI cutscene, they can use a much smaller card with a lower Switch tax, then they can sell the game cheaper. They could have put it in a patch but they obviously didn't see the point in taking away space from the switch for it.

    • @GenerationZ313
      @GenerationZ313 Před měsícem +4

      I find their reasoning for not having it absurd, especially since Team Sonic Racing was included in a physical double pack that also included Sonic Mania on the same cartridge. I mean, they also could've just patched the game to include it as well, not to mention the digital release wouldn't have this problem, so it just sounds like they weren't willing to go the extra way to add something so trivial.

      @@GenerationZ313The double pack probably used the cartridges with the same capacity as the original release considering that sonic mania is only slightly under 200MB with the opening cutscene probably taking up a significant amount of space in comparison.
      Most people also made the flawed argument of “oh, but I downloaded the cutscene from a CZcams video using a converter and it was only 10MB” not knowing that most video files in games tend to be uncompressed data.

      I'm a switch user for most of these games. And legit the only one I really think was worth mentioning was Frontiers. And that's only because the looks just that much worse on Switch than any of the other ports. I have arguablybhad a better time with these versions of the games though since, even though the graphics took a slight hit, the switch controls honestly feel very responsive and smooth. And honestly, when it comes to games like Forces specifically, that's a plus for me since I mostly don't enjoy the game due to the bad physics and controls. So yeah, I'd say for even more die-hard Sonic fans like myself, the only thing that would have been worth bring up would have been Frontiers, as it's the most relevant to what he's talking about. Everything else is just kind of nit picks.

I even ended up putting a lot of hours into the game and often found myself playing the it in handheld mode a lot. The game being locked to 30fps doesn’t really bother me either. You have to understand they are already severely limiting games like Frontiers with the Switch in mind. That's why every version of the game has horrifically hard coded pop in, that you can only partly resolve on PC. The only way to make games run really great on Switch is to build separate games for it. And we don't want to go back to that era of Sonic. Things will get a bit better when the Switch 2 comes out. It's not SEGA's fault that the Switch is significantly weaker 2 and a half generations behind in power.

I'm thinking of getting the PS4 port for the better performance, though I'm still keeping Mania and Origins installed on my Switch since they run perfectly fine in my eyes. And seeing how well Sonic Superstars handles on Switch, I might get around to playing that version as well. Switch ports are definitely inferior, but they have a bit of charm in my eyes.

    I have never had any problems with playing sonic games on switch. Playing alot of the older games on console kinda made me just get used to it. Like I replayed Gears of war 1 on xbox 360 and that game is like 25 fps, hell I even played Max payne 1 on ps2 and that game has unlocked frames, but it could go from 10 fps or 60 at will.
    Playing stuff like Frontiers, team sonic racing, colors or even forces on switch is okay to me, even though playing it on other consoles and/or pc will have it at 60 with increased graphics.

    To be honest a lot of these games didnt need compromises. A lot of them was compromised for no reason. Im pretty sure Sonic Forces, Colors (a freaking Wii game), and Superstars should have been better! But Sega confirmed in a interview with GameExplain they developed Sonic X Shadow Generations for PlayStation 5 first which they been developing for PlayStation first this whole time which is a big mistake give the only Sonic game out sell their Switch Version was Sonic Frontiers (only because it LOOKED like a Triple A), not for being Sonic. Most the Generation long Switch Sonic games been out selling their more graphical versions. So my question is why didnt Sega develop first for Switch to make sure Nintendo Sonic fans, their biggest audience had a great experience dispite power? Looking at Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxer PlayStation is not the main audience for Sonic. Heck i don't see Astro Bot selling that well.

Some terrain meshes actually got reworked a bit (Null Space and Classic Chemical Plant are some examples), setdata on various stages have actually been adjusted, there's a few minor bugfixes not present on the other platforms, etc.

I think you should've praised more the port cause it's honestly amazing how graphically it looks the same as the PS4 version, most multiplat games on Switch have some more downgrades in textures and lighting even if you cut the framerate in half, but this port hardly any graphically different from the PS4 and it runs at 900p docked and full 720p handheld, it's awesome really.

      I don't think SEGA/Sonic Team developed this games with the Switch in mind. They probably were targeting more powerful hardware, but they had to port the games to the Switch due to the fact that Sonic tends to sell better on Nintendo consoles ever since SEGA became a third-party and released Sonic Adventure 2 on the GameCube. Making a Sonic game, design from the ground up with the Switch's specs in mind would've been a good idea, but a similar thing happened with the development of Sonic 2006, which was meant to be released on the Wii, but when Sonic Team realized the Wii couldn't run 2006 they decided to make Sonic and the Secret Rings, which affected the development of 2006
      I actually find it kind of fascinating that SEGA is one of the third-party developers that hasn't released a lot of games on the Switch, not even some old Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Sakura Wars games, but they cannot ignore the Switch's instalbase when it comes to Sonic
