  • Have you been recently diagnosed with a blood clot (thrombosis / DVT / pulmonary embolism)?
Thrombosis UK have developed a series of short films to help share information about blood clots.
We would like to thank all those who contributed to making the films especially Chrissie, Robin and Anne.
The making of these films was made possible by Chris Pierce’s incredible fundraising in memory of his father, Tony and an educational grant kindly provided by the Childwick Trust.

I was just diagnosed with PE 5 days ago after a 15-hour flight. When I got home, 8 hours later, I had the worst pain in my left chest. It hurt every time I breathe in. Went to the hospital and did a CT scan and they found peripheral pulmonary embolism. I am now discharged and they put me on anticoagulant. Doing good so far.

I’m a survivor of this , there is one in my lungs i am on blood thinners it seems I’m improving week by week . But it’s psychological warfare one minute I’m fine the next one I’m finding it extremely hard and painful to breathe this stuff is no joke and I’m glad I caught it in time and I’m still able to be here for my 4 year old son. God gave me intuition that something was wrong and that saved my life

Im currently in recovery at home. I got out of hospital last Wednesday after 7 days in hospital. Im 27 and have no health problems. It was a complete shock when I got taken to hospital and told me I have two massive clots in my lungs. They said if I didn’t come in that day it would of been a different story. Im feeling a lot better but it still does not feel real to me even after being discharged.

I was on the depo shot for abt 2 years & found out that it was causing blood clots to form in both of my lungs. (Pulmonary embolism). I could’ve died 🥺😭😭 my symptoms were leg pain (it felt like a Charlie horse).. I ignored that for a couple of weeks and then I started to have shortness of breathe... nerve pain on the side of my rib cage & when I breathed in and out it literally hurt so bad, that all I could do was gasp for air. That’s when I took my behind to the ER & was admitted to the hospital. My doctor put me on blood thinners & Lovenox shot for 3- 6 months. within 3 days of taking them, I started to feel so much better, it was shocking. The doctor told me to never get back on birth control.

I'm on the depo shot two years and was just yesterday diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. Totally stopping the DEPO shot. I'm scared. Levonox is a blood thinner. And yeah I breath better with the shot. I was able to sleep a few hours. Just so scared bc I also have rare autoimmune diseases. And you can still die even after diagnosed even months to a year later.

Some doctors can be useless. I had what seemed like a heart attack. I was sweating and gasping for air, my body was paralyzed almost. I had been very stupid thinking it was something eaten so I didn't call an ambulance but went to my cardiologist the following day. He did an ECG and ultrasound and said I was all good. I continued working for a month but with chest neck and arm pain till one night I had an episode that almost killed me. I called the ambulance but because of lack of oxygen the operator could not make what I was saying, I could not even walk to open the door for the ambulance team. Once at the hospital, I was diagnosed with a big PE on both lungs. I was told this was very serious I was in ICU for almost 2 weeks. I'm still having palpitations and some pain. Conclusion if you have pains in your chest and breathing issues insist that you see a pulmonologist and cardiologist.

@@toralora Firstly, I'm so sorry that your family member has been diagnosed with this. I wish them well and a speedy recovery! 💙
Well, I personally have a heart related issue now because of it. I had to have oxygen masks and tubes in regularly. Shortness of breath has been an issue during and after. I got fluid on the chest & lungs and needed it all drained out (which was the most painful thing I've ever experienced)
I still experience pain, and have some lung damage from both the clots and the draining procedure.
If I think of anything else, I'll add it.

Can I ask do you take warfarin medication and if so how do you get on with it ? I live a normal life but do very occasionally get out of breath, especially when walking up any inclines. Also have the odd anxious moment but keep a very positive outlook and go about everyday life as normal.

I don't know. My hemotologist never could find a definite cause. The only thing that hasn't been tested for is lung cancer.
I'll just quote what my doctor had told me, when he said, "I don't usually like to push my beliefs on anybody, but in my personal opinion, I think God has a plan for you."
This was after explaining the size range of blood clots. That on one end you'd never know it was there, because it's too small to detect, to you wouldn't know it's there because, if it were you'd be dead. He said most of mine, were on the, "you'd be dead" side, with two of them that he suspected to be infarctions.
He then gave me stories of the only two times he had to step away and take a breather in the 5 years he worked as an emergency responder, which were when he responded to two different call, from which two close friends of his died from pulmonary embolisms. One of which died on the way to her, and the other, 5 minutes after gasping to him, "I...can't, I......can't.........breathe, then immediately going into cardiac arrest. He said that afterwards, the blood clots hat filled up both of the medics hands.
Two of the main reasons that he decided to switch professions, and become a family care physician.
Did I mention I walked into the haspital fine, all except the severe chest pain and coughing blood, and was released the next.
The hardest part in all of this, is not being able to do anything to prevent more clotting besides, taking blood thinners indefinitely, because I don't know what caused them in the first place. That piece of knowledge has really smothered any motivation, to do anything that might make myself more healthy. That and living in constant fear and paranoia of a reoccurring pe. And the people around me bewildered that im not better, and hounding me to make an effort such as, "get a job," combined with their failure to help me with anything besides barely; food, water, and contepting shelter. I don't get encouragement, just dissapointment, and expectation. I'm told what I should do, an constantly criticized for what I can do. Though nothing I ever do seems good enough. And all this is coming from direct family members. Im failing to see the plan that God intended for me, but I do regret going to the hospital that day.
Sorry to be in such a negative mindset. But all that being said, I am hopeful for the future, and have faith enough for an expected end, to power through with God's strength and merce. Good day.
