  • A quick and short video of how to adjust your turbo wastegate basic pressure.
    If you have a low boost other than a boost leak, you might wana try this.
    This car is a 2008 saab 9-3 2.0 but the procedure is the same for any other car except variable vane turbos .
    Enjoy the video..

    I know this is kind of old but I don't understand how adjusting the actuator rod but just the actual boost level isn't that only the spring that can change that or like if you have a goose pressure regulator that bleeds off the air but the actuator rod I don't see how that actually changes the boost level can you explain that. is it just that you're compressing the spring war and so it's almost like making the spring stronger

    • @TheFlyingMechanicDIY
      @TheFlyingMechanicDIY  Před 4 lety

      It does not change boost, this is just adjusting basic boost, which is basically the amount of boost the turbo will build with no electronic control, if it wasnt calibrated correctly due age or replacement, the wastegate might be in slight open position which will increase turbo lag. I hope this clears it

  • @LjThaDon
    @LjThaDon Před 3 lety +1

    Hey! I also adjust my boost pressure! I tightened my wastegate by some so it is pushing around 5-6 psi. Unfortunately I fell into a hiccup! In idle as I try to rev my engine it no longer goes into the red part of the boost gauge, it’ll max out around the middle of the boost gauge and my rpms will only max around 3,000rpm. As before if I rev to max in idle I can go all the way up to 7,000 rpm and my boost gauge would be hitting the red, I tried with and without traction control, Can you help? I have no vacuum leaks and everything seems to be running smooth while in motion. I’m not too sure if i am pre boosting in idle because the waste gate is opening earlier without the added power of my motor or what. Definitely feel a noticeable difference in low-higher rpm while driving tho and the boost activates faster! I do have a cold air intake and muff delete! Soon a tune if I cannot adjust my rev limiter problem!

    • @TheFlyingMechanicDIY
      @TheFlyingMechanicDIY  Před 3 lety

      So the rev limit came only after u fiddle with the wastage ? Did u perform the adaptation drive as instructed by the video @5:15 , 3rd gear or higher, RPM just above 2000, full throttle acceleration for more than 3 seconds, repeat as many times as u can

    • @LjThaDon
      @LjThaDon Před 3 lety

      The Flying MechanicDIY Yes the rev limiter happened only after I increase my boost pressure by 1-2 psi from my stock 4 psi I was running. I did do a few pulls following the instructions, but I live in Colorado where the elevation is high and it is super hot and dry I didn’t want to over wear my engine! When I did run the car I did notice the boost consistency and peak was more efficient than before! I had no vacuum leak or strutter along the ride, it ran through all the gears perfectly! I don’t have a tune though and I might be leaning toward that being the problem! Howmany times would you recommend me holding my rpm around 2000?? In the video I’m sure you said hold between 3500-4000 at full throttle?? I will definitely try both methods to see if it’ll work! I just did an oil change too so everything should be at max efficiency for the set up I have.

    • @TheFlyingMechanicDIY
      @TheFlyingMechanicDIY  Před 3 lety +1

      I corrected the instructions in the comment section of the video.
      I dont want to hold 2000rpm, i want u to start from 2000rpm, at 3rd gear, hit the accelerator fully and keep holding it for more than 3 seconds, repeat on 3,4,5th gears as many as u can and report back

    @tbas8741 Před 2 lety +1

    You Really Need to fit an Electronic Boost Controller instead of altering Wastegate spring pressure.
    That way can have much better boost response, less lag and more reliable power.
    EBC can keep wastegate closed until target boost reached, Some EBC can limit boost in certain gears,
    Also if you have 5psi spring in WG with an EBC you can typically tune to 12-18psi boost with 5psi spring.
    200-250% of wastegate spring rating.
    Suprised Saab 9-3 only runs such low boost for 2008 model
    i mean 1998 model WRX runs literally 3 x more boost (at 14.3psi)
