    I went to Citadel station to see the Midland Pullman pass, with the expectation of otherwise seeing the usual array of passenger and freight trains. Well, the day had a few surprises in store.
    A couple of corrections.
    I mis-captioned 56049 leaving the A Road at Carlisle - its definitely not a Class 55 Deltic.
    Also the West Coast Railways convoy is:
    37518 Am Gearasdan with 57009 G J Churchward and 37685 Loch Arkaig.

    Good stuff as usual Les. I think the track machine working was, 6J01 Colas YellowPlant Blackburn (09:40) Penrith (12:12½), I don't know why it went as far as Carlisle. I got the same unit at Lancaster.

      Thanks and Thanks! I didn't look on the main line, assuming it'd been working on the M&C where there's been a lot of relaying down there. I couldnt find it on RTT otherwise at Carlisle - probably VSTP.

    Well, you certainly caught plenty of variety of colour there - even if one or two of the locos (and not just the RHTTs) could have done with a good wash! From the number of trains allowed to go ahead of the Royal Mail train I can only presume that it was carrying Second Class Post only.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Probably parcels - though the one on test had only fresh air (or hot air for political post) 😄. I thought that at least DRS would have washed the locos now they aren;t used on the RHTT..

    Im suprised that royal mail doesnt deliver by train to their depot on the old waverley route and it keeps me happy that they havent torn up any track of site as well, also freightliner owned that depot before royal mail took over and they should reopen the old waverley line bringing it back across the waverley viaduct and down past the sewage works would be easy, at the sewage works entrance was a bridge, trains went over and cars went under and the line went down just connected to the wcml, but now sadly just behind the royal mail depot is the m6.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Před 7 měsíci +1

      In theory Cement can be distributed from the adjacent warehouse - but hasn't been for some years now. Royal Mail only seem to distribute between a few depots and some freight yards (Mossend and Daventry for two) having sold off many of the ones they built in around 2000.

    • @xxfyrezgamerxx6279

    Crewe TMD(E) must be the most under-employed depot in the country. Now that DB have withdrawn the Class 90s all they have to deal with is the 325s and the Channel Tunnel 92s, don't they

    Just shows how capable the 56s are. Shame their reputation was ruined early on by reliability problems. Apparently, most are still serviceable, with very few being scrapped.
    I'll refrain from waxing lyrical about 37s again (this time, anyway!).

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Před 7 měsíci

      If you mean the thing at 2:30 apparently its a Materials Handling Train Power Wagon! It would, I think, sit with a long string of ballast cleaning wagons or in track laying trains

      @@LeslieGilpinRailways Sorry for any confusion and I can see why you thought it was a materials handing train. But I was referring to the black [rubber?] Toblerone like object at the end of platforms. See 09:28 where you picture the plant along with with Microclimate comment.
