@@Joeteck Hi! I have a slightly different, bigger model (Vicks V5100NS) with the exact same issue, but I opened it and the fan seems to be working fine. Also, it's a very different, bigger fan. It's a white one, the blades are exposed (I can touch them) and it's installed vertically. Do you have any idea what needs repair? I've already cleaned everything with vinegar and water multiple times and removed the demineralizing cartridge. Thanks!

Thank you so much!I bought this one a year ago because my other one went out. But I didn't realize it was the fan. Thanks to your video, I replaced it today!. And since there was a pack of four I went ahead and replace the fan in the other one(different brand) and now I have two really good working humidifiers. My dad was so proud of me, lol. Mind you I'm a 44 year-old woman..lol.

Great video, Just to let you know before throwing that fan away you might want to try and soak it in some vinegar for a half hour, then blow it out and let it sit for a few hours to dry. I figured what do I have to lose, and it worked fine. I also gave it very little wd40. Like I said great video Joe, very informative, thank you.

Great video. I can get four of those quiet ones for ten bucks? And I was going to take the stupid humidifier out to the garage and treat it with a sledge hammer. Before I saw this, I was looking at other units and trying to find reviews and ratings, with no consensus. And I started seeing cheapo units in "most quiet" ratings, and I started not believing it. So i'm going to give it a shot. This reminds me of all the noisy OEM fans I had in my self-built PCs before I found an Austrian fan and cooler manufacturer, Noctua. The fans are $20 each, but have both lubricated and magnetic bearings and are warranted for 7 years. This little WINSINN unit looks like I might never even need to replace the "builder's grade" cheapo put in the unit to begin with. What an incredibly useful video. Thanks, Joe!!!

First of thank you for this video, it really helped with disassembling the humidifier. My fan works and is blowing but the steam just still isn’t coming out. I took it out and adjusted it, but there is no difference. I got this a month ago and don’t want to replace it so soon. This all started after I cleaned it yesterday with white vinegar as recommended then I noticed that the steam wasn’t coming out but the water was still bubbling at the bottom and the fan was on. So I left it overnight thinking it would take time to reset I guess and this morning the water in the base just stopped even bubbling at all, but the fan is still working. Can anyone suggest anything else?

Just some info for laypeople (like myself) that is not mentioned in this video: this humidifier (at least the one I have in this model) is held together by Torx security AKA “tamper-proof” screws, and you will need a Torx security screwdriver in the correct size to remove them. I ordered some from Amazon and they were too small, so I ordered some larger ones that seemed to fit, however I still have not been able to move the screws at all in order to open the unit and check the fan. If anyone has any other advice I’m here for it, otherwise at this point I’ll probably just get a new humidifier.

I just successfully replaced the fan, but I discovered a new problem: The shutoff isn't working properly. The ultrasonic element does go lower, but doesn't stop completely, the fan still goes full power, and the LED on the knob stays green instead of turning red. It seems to work by the magnet pulling apart two small bars in a switch-in-a-tube element; maybe over a long time they've somehow gotten too stiff to be pulled far enough apart or something? It doesn't look like a part that'd be cheap to replace...

Hi Zac. I bought them too and I think I know what you mean. In the video, because they weren't held close to a mic, the impression is that they're silent. When I first turned on the unit before putting it back together, the new fan made a fairly annoying buzzing, but I figured the noise would be softened when I put the unit together, which it was. But I'm going to save the original fan and do what a lot of the other commenters here did: Clean the original and put it back in. I noticed my originale was all gunked up with dust. I also remember that it really wasn't that loud when new and that only after a month or so it started getting all ratchety. But I already reassembled the unit. I know how to do it without looking at the video, so I can replace the new fan with the original at some point. I'm going to hit it with some canned air. Cheers.

@@christopheryochum3602 Yeah I popped my old fan off and tried to clean it and lube it and it must just be a dud. Its rattling all over the place. @christopheryochum3602 Před 3 lety

@@zac_holland You're right. It's still disappointing how little the enclosure mitigates the buzzing because I got the humidifier for my dad. It sits about three feet away from his bed, the only saving grace being his deafness to a lot of the frequencies you and I hear. I'll let you know if I find anything out from a legit high-end computer-fan manufacturer, but I'm not seeing any of these little things being made by high-end firms like Noctua.
The air speed has something to do with the sound, but I think a lot of contributing noise is from the bearing and fan-blade shape. I have seven Noctua $20 fans in my self-built PC and they're quieter than anything I've ever used before, and what I used before were fans running at the same speed, so it's not just air making the noise. The bearings are combined hydrodynamic/magnetic proprietary designs that make no noise whatsoever. In their case, the air is, indeed, all you hear.
They're out of Austria, and all they make are computer fans and coolers. I'm going to write them and see if they have anything in the pipeline. Here's a notice from them that they'd come out with a line of 24V fans for industrial use: noctua.at/en/noctua-introduces-24v-industrialppc-fans However, nothing looks like it would fit the application we need. However, I'll write them anyway. Sometimes there are products out there that are not visible on a vendor site for whatever reason.
I'm still going to take an air gun to my original fan and may take the humidifier apart again just to see if I put the original back in what happens. The original honestly wasn't that noisy until a couple months in, so it may have been because of all the dust gunking up the works.
