I almost made that mistake (quickly realized and closed it before opening more than 4 inches) when I first got mine. You can even feel how flimsy it is.
That’s a “mounting” point for the closed lid, I think. At least on most grands I’ve seen, on the lid that’s actually the mounting “pin” and the hole is on the rim below.

What’s the third hole for that’s separate from the other two?
