The Pop Song Professor Hello, I am a new person in your channel. Names Voltech Angel and I would like to say that I agree. NF is talking about his father since he never had a well relationship with his dad. His mom and dad had gotten into a divorce. NF, in this song, had talked both actually. In the second part of the Chorus about the voices in his head, he is actually representing him. In another song he made, which is Intro III, that song, he talks to his fear and his fear is himself. He fears himself, and he usually adds his fear into his music. He mentions his fear. As well, in the song Let You Down, he doesn't say it, but he explains that he doesn't want to be his father. That is why he has the tattoo and the lady say his name. He has the thoughts of his father. In the chorus, he father is saying it while for the verses, he is explaining it himself. He never had a good relationship with his father it wasn't so well. He came from a horrible background. His mother died from an overdose, his step father physically abused him and his father never really payed attention to him. It's a lot to say, but if you would like to know more, reply back to this comment. Thank You

I think I always thought it was both. Like, every line, the chorus, all of it, is both his Dad talking to NF and NF talking to his Dad. Like, neither of them want to disappoint the other, neither of them feel heard, both feel betrayed, both feel like they have let the other one down, they both pretend nothing is wrong sometimes, because the relationship hurts so bad for both. That is why I think the music video is so powerful, NF's dad watches him get destroyed, but in the end, NF is doing the same. They are saying the same things. Maybe that was just me though...

I got trapped living in my dads standards and when I decided to move on from him he manipulated the entire family against me. So now I’m really on my own. And this all happened on my birthday. But honestly it’s better then living in the abuse and constantly trying to earn my fathers love and acceptance. I didnt even know who I was anymore. I think this is how my dad views me in the lyrics. Because my dad blames me for his drinking because I have autism and I ruin everything. I had to change my name and profile pic on here so he never finds out I’m talking about him.

of course i’m not NF but as someone who has had a not great relationship with their father all that you’re saying at the end of the video about it being a combination of both being about his father and himself seems pretty accurate. personally at least whenever my dad was mad at me or disappointed in me i would always blame him first but then would look at myself as if something was wrong with me before eventually realizing i was just being overly critical and was just trying to justify my fathers actions and prolonging my own negative feelings. so just as you said i’ve always seem the song as a mixture just like what i’ve just described. anyways great explanation was really in depth!!!!

The fact is although I Ike a lot of his songs the guy has got major mental issues and need some good help. He swings like a bipolar person (I know several bipolar ppl) but is a true narcissists. For him music is his therapy but it also fills a need for attention. It's sad nonetheless because almost all if not all of his relationships with be sabotaged at his own doing

how about the idea that it's about NF's fear and how it has controlled him for so long that he feels like a disappointment to himself and that the older man that we see in the video is Nate as himself but without the fear in him, and that the "person" dying is actually his fear. i say this because if you listen to intro III he says that he tries to kill his fear so that he can live his life the way he wants to and possibly a happier life with his soon to be spouse without this constant pain that's been with him since he was a kid with everything that happened with his family and mom more than anything. tell me what you think of this pop song professor.

The meaning is deep yes, but it would have been better if it was instead of his dad trying to make amends, his father dies, and he realizes that all those times he was annoyed with his dad and getting lectured, it was because his dad cared about him. So in this meaning the song happens after his fathers death and he has realized that his father cared about him, and he let him down by not listening, and being angry with him.
Not a theory, just a cool idea of what the song could have been if he re-wrote it.

It is NF letting himself down. (He's got WAY TOO MANY VOICES IN HIS HEAD.) But it's also about him struggle with the feelings that he did the best that he could but was never good enough for his parent. Dealing with someone like NF isn't easy to do because they are so emotionally lead and lack true reflection to the point of real change of character
You have to remember that NF suffers from ADHD and they are overwhelmed with racing thoughts and they project their emotions on others. They are DEEPLY insecure and wear many masks. They are narcissistic in nature and always think ppl are out to get them so anything they do is for their benefit/survival. They are drawn to strong empathetic personalities but resent them at the same time because Super empaths are everything they can never be. Pp like NF are the complete opposite because they are self-indulgent and self-destructive

I think that all though the new album was fine, NF needs to take a break from putting out music every year because his subjects are starting to become bland or boring, mainly because we have already heard most of it. Do you agree?
