Upon a Sagebrush Sea sails Owyhee Canyon Wilderness Study Area Elko, NV

Traveling to Owyhee Canyon Wilderness Study Area (WSA) in Elko County Nevada these photos were taken along the route and at the canyon. They show the miles and miles of a sagebrush sea and the beauty of the many canyons. To the north of Owyhee Canyon WSA lies the South Fork Owyhee River WSA which goes to the Idaho boundary line. When the water that is flowing through the Owyhee River is deep enough rafters launch and float north and into Idaho's Owyhee River Wilderness. The Elko, Nevada and the Boise, Idaho Bureau of Land Management keep river condition statistics and if you plan on going on a float up the Owyhee River you should contact the offices before heading out on your trip just to make sure there is ample water for your float.
The area around the WSAs is a beautiful sight to see, if you want to be completely submerged in beautiful sagebrush with awesome and spectacular views of the surrounding landscape this is a place to be.
The Americorps Interns you see in the photos were being introduced to the area, so that they would become aware of the amount of public land they would be helping protect and gain a better understanding of the huge amount of our public lands available for our use.

Hi Matt, thanks for the comment. It real is a beautiful place with miles and miles of sagebrush and beautiful landscapes. Of course the sweet fragrance of sage fills the air.

The sagebrush biome in its many forms is the most extensive vegetation type in North America.
Of all its expanse snd extent, this breathtaking landscape is particularly important.
Long may it stand open and untrammeled!

Thank you for sharing the fact that the sagebrush biome is that extensive. I loved being out in the middle of the sea surrounded by a beautiful landscape with the wonderful sage fragrance in the air may it forever remain untrammeled. Zack
