Proud as a Brit whose Uncle played in his band. Lived local to me. Lovely guy. RIP.
Absolute privilege to listen to this ! So many talented people coming together to perform this masterpiece .. RIP Gary and thank you 🙏
Sadly he passed away from Cancer in February this year. Such an amazing powerful voice.
RIP Gary Brooker 1945-2022
Thank you, Gary. Be at peace in the spiritual dimension.
He made this song famous in the 60s ,, he's a TRUE STAR ... R.I.P. G.B.🌷🙏☮️🌎
I like to think that when Gary Brooker died of cancer earlier this year, in his last months he was able to see reaction-videos like yours, Ambrose Cynthia, and of all the other young people here on CZcams that made videos to "Whiter Shade Of Pale", and that he could realize what he accomplished.
RIP lead singer Gary Brooker and thank you for this masterpiece!
This is the first song I learned on the keyboards.
Gary Brooker's voice hasn't changed a bit over 50 plus years of performing. Procol Harum were named after a cat. Great song!
It's Latin for Beyond Things :-)
I would say his voice is better here than in the 60s.
I disagree. Gary is like a bottle of fine wine. His voice got so much better as he aged.
Another from this show is 'Conquistador' and it's just as impressive.
Truly a magical performance !
Great performance of a landmark song originally from the 1960s. Same guy (Gary Brooker) sang the studio version radio hit.
I remember cruising down the roads with my girl when these guys were young men as was I. 50 plus years later and there even better! Blessed life time of listening to em;)
Unfair such talent that makes us feel so emotional is taken from us. RIP Gary Brooker. I hope there’s another life so I can hear your voice again!
Wondefull song. A classic masterpiece. I havent heard This version before. Its awesome with the symphonic orchestra.
Brought me to tears! The Band, the Orchestra and especially, the powerful vocals from Gary Booker! WOW, what a Combination!
and this song is now 55 years old. First recorded back in 1967... Theres not a song out today that could come close to this Masterpiece! ❤🥰 ➕💒💞
Saw them in my younger years, Amazing his voice is like a fine wine!
Saw Procol Harum in London in 1967, Gary Brookers voice is ageless.
Top professional song ,top level for Moment ,🇮🇹🌹
Gary Brooker MBE was an English singer-songwriter, pianist, and the founder and lead singer of the rock band Procol Harum. Born: 29 May 1945, London - Died: 19 February 2022, Surrey
Gary RIP. Sang this song a million times..... here at Ledreborg just as well as in Olympic Studios in Spring 1967.
Great to see a lovely young lady enjoy a wonderful rendition of a great song. I never tire of seeing this as a fan of Procol Harum since the first time I heard them back in 1967.Will be seeing them again live at the London Palladium next year, can't wait .
sad but he died this year, what a wonderful legacy he has left.
@@vallee3140 yes so sad ,he will never be forgotten
Cynthia, I truly wish there was time travel. I'd take you back to one of the concerts I played accompaniment to Procol Harum at the Star Light Theater when I was concert pianist for the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra. I played for three of their concerts concerts, in '97, '04 and '05. Each more moving that the last. Gary Brooker's passing in Feb was a tragic loss to the music world. I will miss him, he was a musical legend and a great friend. This recording is great but it still doesn't convey the true impact this band had on it's audience. We routinely had violinists in tears as they played.
This is actualy from a series of events in Denmark. The Danish National Symphony Orchestra, that played in this song, invites a lot of diferent bands to play there owne songs that have become classics. In this case it was Procol Harum. The evernt is held in the park of a big castle. I can’t remember the name of it, but it was held for some years ago. The Procul Harum song was released back in 1967. And it still was song by Gary Brooker.
RIP Gary Brooker! Thank you!
Perfection, R.I.P Gary.
Hi my dear... wow, you came across one of the most beautiful 60s songe ever recorded ! I loved this one from the very first time I have heard it, and still can't get enough of it until today. Originally recorded in 1967, the melody that you heard at the beginning and later on the Hammond organ, was adapted from the air on the g string by J. S. Bach... and it fits perfectly to the whole song ! And yes, Gary Brooker's voice still sounds the same, more than 50 years later ! Overall, a beautiful and powerfuil arrangement of this classic 60s track ! And your reaction ? Couldn't have been any lovelier ! I really enjoyed this together with you.... from beginning to end ! Here's to your next one ! I wonder if you'll do "Time passages" by Al Stewart, or "Uptown girl" and "Leningrad" by Billy Joel... hugs and kisses : Gerry
His voice is great and yes expect some reactions from your suggestion
Hi honey. This performance was the best rendition of this great song. I think you choose the perfect version that always just sends shivers down my spine in a great way and just gets me so emotional. It touches my heart and soul. I really love your reaction to this brilliant and moving performance. Love ya always.
Great reaction.
Gary Brooker. On this song, this performance - World's greatest soul singer.
When having to show your resume at the pearly gates: "What did you do? " Oh, just this...
Instances like these are irreplaceable human experiences. This is why Rock will never die. RIP, Gary, thank you for that. Sincerely, the entire human race.
Ohh, I love this and listen to it over and over. It was released in 1967 and it was last song at school dances. Sadly Gary Brooker died this past February. RIP GARY BROOKER. We've lost a good kind wonderful man.
Try to watch the 1960s video of Gerry with the original group to get a real feel for that period. Yes, his voice does move you, doesn’t it. This was a classic song from that era.
Gary Brooker. A magnificient icon whose voice was so rich and full and never lost it's enchanting power throughout the decades. Alas he is no longer with us. We have his performances for us to see frozen in time. One of the few artists that can evoke powerful emotions and pull them out of you. R.I.P. my brother.
Great reaction to a classic hit from the 60’s Cynthia. The performance moved me also.
John Denver & Cass Elliott singing “Leaving On A Jet Plane” is another outstanding live performance.
Sadly the singer on the piano Gary Brooker Passed away in february 2022.🙏🙏
AMAZING!
Step 1 - Orchestra prelude
Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra
Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir
“A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single
❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022
*PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things"
You're IMMEDIATE reaction to Gary's voice got Me!!
I'm speechless. I cried a river.
This was John Lennon's favourite song for the summer of that year.
RIP Gary Brooker, Past on 02/19/22 The Greatest song ever made, the world lost a great Man
WHAT!!!?? OMG, I hadn't heard that, awww this breaks my heart. RIP Gary Brooker, you will be missed and thanks for all your great music. He was only 2 years older than me. This is SO SAD. My sympathies to his family and friends. That Rock Band in heaven just keeps getting larger.
A musical miracle in Denmark!
According to the replies it looks like she isn't aware of Gary's passing. Too bad.
The official video will undoubtedly top 100M views sometime next year. This is the definition of music.
There needs to be a ❤ emoji next to the thumbs up.
Its a very emotional song about life!
Gary didn't just sing it, he wrote the original music.
Gary, RIP, Neil
He didn't just sing it, he wrote the original music. (which was inspired by "air on a g string", it captures the same mood, whilst being completely different.) Loved your reaction.
Bach inspired
Cynthia, i grew up with the music of Procol Harum, E.L.O, Joe Cocker and many more. I suggest you listen to "Up where we belong" with Joe Cocker. Enjoy
Just wanted to give you an update... so sorry to let you know...Gary Brooker passed earlier this month...a beautiful voice now silent here on earth... but I hope he's still singing with the angels 😇...
Masterpiece is often overused...not in this case... astounding performance
... I was 10 yo in 1967... Imagine you, living during these times with such melodies in the heart ! 😍😍😍
I grew up with this amazing music & you are so lucky to be able to experience it for the 1st time, a really special thing
This song was first performed by Procol Harum and wonderful Gary Brooker is 1967, and it has stood the test of time. I wonder how many songs and singers from the 2020's will be held in such esteem in 50 years time?
Gary Brooker passed 2 days ago...RIP❤
I love it. These kids don't know whats coming.
Gary Brooker made some great music with Procol Harum (Conquistador, Homberg, Grand Hotel) ... but he also made some wonderful solo music ... "Saw The Fire" is a fantastic song.
You should check out the good, the bad and the ugly by this danish orchestra.
Pure Class
I'm jealous. I wish that I been there to hear and see that performance of this beautiful song.
From the same concert listen to "A Salty Dog".
This is a huge production for the live concert, it was not in the radio version.
Cynthia, another GREAT reaction to classic piece of rock history. Might I suggest, for the emotional power of it, The Beach Boys' "Tears in the Morning"? Decades later it always reduces me to tears.
Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song by a beautiful soul! Thank you for this Cynthia! Please add to your list "That's The Way I Always Heard It Should Be" by Carly Simon, "One Less Bell To Answer" by The Fifth Dimension, "Hi De Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears and "Hallelujah" by kd lang from the 2010 Olympics opening ceremony! Keep up the great work on your channel!!
I remember when this song came out.
Everyone was speculating about it’s meaning….. ‘one of sixteen vestal virgins’
I wish I had a dollar for every time she says "guys"
"You will never forget Whiter Shade of Pale" it has had that effect on me almost 50 years knowing the song. It'also the most recorded song ever in the music industry. The royalties of this song has bought CASTLES in and across EUROPE
I love your video 1 st time visitor,.. assuredly not the last.
There is a bombshell question that flattens us right from the first notes of this song, "will you trust me to romance you?""To do no harm, to not take from you - but only to fill your heart." As the passion increases we are pressed for and answer (we can't hide our heart from THIS song. No! we MUST answer - dare we expose our heart to such hope?). It IS frightening.
I heard the original as a child, but this blew me away. Original is dream like, but this made me cry. Beautiful!
I'm pretty sure Bach was smiling in heaven while listening to this performance.
I surely hope so...
And so it waaaaaaaaas....gave me goosebumps. What a great song. R.I.P
He just passed away 😢 RIP Gary Brooker
Great reaction. Well worth waiting for! Cheers
Today Feb 19 is the anniversary of his passing R.I.P...an incredible performer, and this performance is literally PERFECT and phenomenal
God rest his soul. Gary Brooker died in February 2022. This version of the song is angelic in my mind.
It's ok girlfriend... most people react the same way.... when they hear his voice...it has matured over the years...brings back beautiful memories... glad you enjoyed it...
Whiter shade of pale first came out in 1967 so did this song, Nights in white satin, play the later one from 2000, by the Moody Blues.
You will love Gary Brooker's other great hit HOMBURG ever bit as much. See if you can figure out what the story is about. The words are some of the greatest lyrics ever written. The studio version is best.
Cynthia, I couldn't agree with you more about this fantastic performance. Also, I just want to complement you on how cool your braided hair looks too!😀
I highly recommend, " Bridge Over Troubled Water ", by Simon and Garfunkel.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but Gary Brooker of Procul Harum has passed away.
Great song. Enough said. Love you reaction. 🙂
Thanks Orin
All music gets to your heart.
No doubt it is great with the orchestra but that's not how I remember it. It is the haunting sound of the organ in the original that I hear in my mind and that is what made it iconic. You don't have to do a reaction video just go back and find the original studio version and listen to that for your own edification.
RIP GARY BOOKER
Yes. Fantastic
As emotions start, words do stop.
Procol Harum are an English rock group which was founded by the lead vocalist and pianist you see here, Gary Brooker who sadly passed away in February 2022 😢
This song was their first release, way back in 1967. It was at No.1 on the UK 🇬🇧 charts for 6 weeks and peaked at No.5 on the USA Hot 100.
It has sold 10 million copies worldwide and there are over 1,000 known cover versions by other artists!!
RIP GARY BROOKER
🤔….great reaction video! New subscriber here - your reaction was beautiful and genuine. I have just a few comments that might enhance your listening experience if you watch & listen to this again (like I have about 100 times now - lol).
First a little trivia: The band name is Latin for, “Far beyond these things”….however, one of the band members back in 1967 had a cat named Procol Harum….so no one is 100% sure if they named their band after the Latin meaning….or the cat.
The singer, Gary Brooker., died about a year after you posted this video - he is greatly missed. If you listen to the original 1967 recording you will be even more astonished about his singing in this live performance over 40 years later.
“Whiter Shade Of Pale” was one of about 3 or 4 songs from the 1967 “Summer of Love” that defined the sound and the scene of that beautiful era (the hippie movement). Unfortunately, that era lasted only about 3 years….. innocence lost, and marked by another outdoor concert at Altamont - December 1969 - The Rolling Stones - using the Hells Angels motorcycle gang as their “security” - 4 people died that night.
There is much debate about the meaning of the lyrics….but I believe most people conclude that it is a story told, using some metaphors, of a young couple, at a party, or in a ballroom (perhaps on a ship), at first, having a great time (“skipping the Light Fandango” - a dance, and instead doing “cartwheels on the floor” - getting a little drunk and crazy.
As the guy begins to make his move for more intimate private pleasure with her (“one of 16 vestal virgins” - definitely a girl not yet ready to go where he was leading), he was still looking for the opportunity to convince her (as he shuffled through his playing cards - perhaps looking for an ace or the Queen of Hearts, metaphorically speaking, and “He would not let her be”, kept pressuring her knowing she was drunk and perhaps vulnerable. But she sensed early on what he was up to (“the truth was plain to see), and was clearly frightened by his intentions.
As he continued to tell her lies (“as the miller told his tale”)….she was beginning to feel trapped, and became even more frightened as the evening wore on.
I have heard (but cannot confirm) that Gary Brooker and his co-writer (I am sorry I have forgotten his name) actually wrote two more verses, that were never recorded - it seems we will not ever know the end of that story.
A tremendous amount of amazing music came out of those years from about 1967 through the mid 90s But the Summer of Love (‘67) through Woodstock (‘69) were magical.
Thank you for your great reaction video. Well done.
R.I.P. Procol Harum singer Gary Brooker May 29, 1945 - February 19, 2022.
good night from quebec canada
It's all good my dear because she the thing is this was recorded back in the 60s like 68 or 69 something like that so how was a long long time ago so you do have an excuse for not hearing this
This song is such a complex mix.
The lyrics on their own are a confuzzled mix of sexual innuendo, narcotics and alcohol-fueled chaos.
The music on its own is borderline elevator muzak.
But when you combine BOTH... magic happens.
LIVE AND LEARN, EVERY DAY WE LIVE AND LEARN. IF YOU DON'T LEARN SOMETHING TODAY, YOUR NOT LIVING!!!🤠✌
That was a great reaction
Beautiful reaction so pleased you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Good one! Great reaction Cynthia!
I haven't been to this concert, but I've been to about thirty of them since 1992. I've seen and heard "A whiter..." many times, but now I'm noting how great Mark Brzezicki played the drums. Of course, Gary's voice is a separate issue (phenomenon), the orchestra, the band, it's all fantastic, but in this New Testament version of "A whiter..." the drums were always too passive. Here, it's really great. And in general, this version of the song is there
excellent, even perfect.
Beautiful reaction from a truly beautiful woman ❤👊🏻
Stuff that brings us to tears... heartmover could also be NIght in White Satin, have a similar vibe,
and you look great btw needless to say
Great song, I like the original recording, never heard it with an orchestra, not bad though. They were scheduled to play South Africa Cynthia, in 2016, but the lead singer, Gary Booker, fractured his skull, I Think it was on his 67th birthday. Also Robin Trower was there guitar player, big fan of his!
Oh my!
I agree with you about the original. It is that haunting sound of the organ that I hear in my mind. ALSO, Robin Trower? The 1st concert I ever went to. There was some unknown group that opened for him called Fleetwood Mac.
This melody is based on Air On A G String by Bach. It was a world wide number 1 in the summer of 67. Not Bach of course
Shakespearean reaction ‘ as the Miller told his tale’ do you get that
Hottie alert I'm back in love with beautiful woman😘
