Opening segment was so loud it blew my ears out... Rest of the video... barely could hear a word you said!
Had three problems with my belt coming off, and I found three things that caused the problem: 1: The belt guards were bent. 2: The belt tensioner spring had become stretched. 3: The belt was made for an electric motor. After correcting the first two, I ordered a belt made for mowers, a Gates brand. The belt has not come off after three years.
Good video. Good job. No obnoxious voice, no stupid waste of time. Well done.
I found this video very helpful and gave you a thumbs up but I was waiting for another 5 minutes for a magical 4th problem....and it never came haha
Simple and quick, very valuable, THANKS
Nice video thank you.I am pretty handy with lawn equipment but I don't know everything.
Thank you for this 👍🏻
Thank you. I have a Sears Craftsman mower that likes to break belts fairly quick. And from what you showed in your video, I might be able to take care of the problem myself. ( I hope).
thanks. You explain thing so well. and show the parts while on the mower. This makes it very easy to understand. I am still learning how to care for a new used craftsman's rider.
Nice video!
Thanks I for the information it was very helpful, you save me some money.
Thanks z hut..... helped me a lot!!!!!!
I replaced the 690409MA Idler pulley today on my mower and in fewer than 10 minutes the pulley was destroyed and the top portion was broken off...in addition the belt was ragged and broken in two.....what should I look at as the cause....at first the original pulley was burnt up and I thought it just being old had caused the problem....now it appears to be something else?
My bracket on the rear of my MTD came off and I cannot figure out where the top piece on the right side goes. There are two holes on the right upper side but the bracket will not reach it. do you have any suggestions it's on the right side of my MTD
Where are the rear belt guards supposed to go?
What about when all the ball bearing fall out of the DRIVE PULLY? I have this problem now & need to know how to remove /replace this pully
your explanation for the first is clear and concise, footage of third item however is shows onky the top of your hand - no pun intended
my Husqvarna GTH 250 (2002) always chewed up belts, both primary drive and deck belts, over a 3 month season i would use two sets and they are 60/70 bucks each but i finally overcame this annoying issue - now, after every hour of use i use a compressor to blow away the bits that collect on the deck around the pulleys and secondly i run the motor (while cutting) at full speed, the deck is a 48 inch triple blade unit - so it's a false economy to run the motor slower to save gas - the current belts i installed 2 years ago and they are still like new !
steight oftheHart I will try this and blow my deck now after every use coz I have been through approx 6 belts so far this year
don't forget to drive the cutting blades at full speed
This is good thank for posting The problem with me was my deck belt broke on the first day. But It was not because of the lawn tractor I had it was the fact I had little or no knowledge of lawn tractors when I bought it I bought it because I had a whole yard full of six to four feet high quarter inch thick paspalum grass It had got that way because year after year I was mowing it with my push mower But eventually My mower could not mow it any more So I had been spraying it and killing it off with roundup And as we know round up kills ever thing But in the end only the stronger grass survives And that was paspalum grass Though it would only come up if it rained in two weeks it was four feet high it was the only grass to survived And it keep on coming up So I keep on spraying it. over the years when it did comer up it grew back thicker and thicker to it was so thick impossible to spray or mow I know now that cutting this sort of long grass with a Lawn Tractor was my only option. With my lack of knowledge my deck belt broke on the first day. I know now that with this sort of thick grass I have to mow it in smaller passes And I had to keep the mower deck clean. the reason I broke the belt was this stuff was so thick wet thick grass would jammed up my mower deck. And though we are all told They are realy not design to cut long grass. And that they are realy design just to cut lawns. They can do this if you know how I was told by the dealer that For long tall thick grass. it best to get some one in with a tractor with a slasher .But I didn't have a slasher or know any one who had one . All I had was me with my new MTD Rover 38" Lawn Tractor. But after I replace the broken belt from more advice from the dealer I found a way to cut this awful tall thick grass. with out righting off my Deck belt. I have found that if Im careful enough I can easily not damage the deck belt. or the blades. All I had to do was do small with single passers Then I would stop the machine and get under the deck pull out the wet grass before it had a chance to jammed up the blades. The reason my deck belt broke was Most lawn tractor have a powerful engines they will not stop no mater what. And though it takes a lot to jam up and stop the blades spinning. if it do's happen it will happen so fast that the powerful engine will just keep on turning. Burning out a huge chunk out of the deck belt . The hint of this happening will be, that it will produces a huge amount of smoke, from under the hood. And most times when this has happened it will always right off the deck belt. Though if it doesn't brake, most time the deck belt will still keep working , But a deck belt is balance part of the lawn tractor . When I burn out my deck belt I notice that it will burn a huge chunk out of the belt .The deck belt will then be out of balance. In my cast It did not brake So though I can still use But it be out of balance and it will shake the hell out of the deck. but if you mowing long wet grass just nibble at it stopping ever now and then to make sure the deck clean enough for the blade to spin and you be OK .
I'm glad you finally got to the point thank you
Raise you deck to the highest setting and raise or remove the chute to allow the grass to exit faster and make sure your tires are fully inflated
this is a very good video but i cant tell which hole you stick the bracket through on the engine pulley i have been fighting with this mower for a couple years trying to figure out why it has such a bad vibration when engaging blades i think this bracket could be my problem cause i can take the belt off without removing it thanks for any information
My Yard Machine was working fine. Once I replace the deck belt , I saw white smoke coming from the engine pulley. It spins while the engine is engaged and disengage. What could cause it to just spin now?
When a barring goes out you should see smoke or smell burning rubber if you do replace it immediately. When one goes out I replaced then all. Also if a barring goes out the pulley can potentially break off and if it does do not pick it up with your hands also I would recommend getting some water cause it could potentially start a grass fire
My yard machine only mows on height # 5. When i put in 4 sounds like it has no power. Can u help me with this
Extremely useful thanks
Thanks brother!!!!
where do you attach the belt keeper rod that is next to engine pully mine is off and cant figure out where to attach it on a mtd riding lawn mower
Usually that rod hooks into a hole in the frame and it has threaded stem that also goes thru a hole in the frame and is secured with a washer and nut. You hold the rod in the proper position while tightening down hard on the nut.
Good demonstration. I put the mower in the garage as usual. Today I started it up for the first time this year. My problem is the mower will go into gear and will not move. I began to smell rubber burning and shut it off. Before I start taking off wheels and getting into it, do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
+Richard Beckman that doesn't sound good it could possibly be your gearbox is froze up or has something in there jamming it , with luck possibly you just had a belt that came loose or mouse got up in there over the winter and put some acorns or something next to one of the pulleys so I think unfortunately you're going to have to tear into it to find out, there is quite a few things it could be
Thanks for your response. I believe there is something in the gear box. I will keep you posted.
After cleaning around the belt sprocket I bumped into a metal rode that was stuck between the belt guide and the wheel. I pulled it out; replaced the left wheel and all was good. It was very hard to see in this dark cloudy day. Thanks for you support and information.
I have a simplicity lawnmower and the mower belt twists and it comes off of the front pulley. It gets chewed up and breaks. Do you have any advice please.
how do you fix it
I have a cub cadet ltx 1045 with 46" dual blade cutting deck, every belt I put on bounces like crazy when the cutting deck is off. When I engage the blades it mows fine. As soon as I shut it off the belt bounces and breaks. All belt keepers are close so the belt is not falling off the pulleys. Any way to fix ?
Same issue with my Cub Cadet xt1 lt42 (2015) model #13AVA1CS056. Pivot idler shakes like a California Mag 10 Earthquake. Causes pulley to do the same. Tightened it until it wouldn't tighten anymore...still shakes!!! I have no idea what else to do. Taking it in to be diagnosed tomorrow. Hopefully they will be able to shed some light on the problem. Not one CZcams video covers this specific issue for this specific year model ...smh🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
thanks bro!
i have the same mower but my belt slips off when turning of the blades what could be the issue
I thought it was a very informative video. Your mower deck looks just like mine. My problem is my belt won't stay on. Not even for 1 minute and I can't figure out why? The 96.5 inch OEM belt that the mower requires is 2 inches to long for some reason (I found that so strange) but one day I went to replace the belt and it was now too long. So I went with a shorter belt, a 96 inch belt. It was loose also and 5 minutes later popped off. So I went with a 95 inch belt and It too is 1 inch too long. It stayed on for a couple minutes then popped off. So lastly I went with a 94 inch belt and it seems to have the right tightness but then I engaged it and it popped off within immediately.
I felt that the 2nd reason you gave might be the problem so I made sure those metal braces were in the right place and that there was absolutely no way the belt could fit past those 2 metal braces once engaged and guess what?
The belt flew off again. I simply do not understand what is going on? Any guesses?
Brody McCain, anything seized? Re: size, have you replaced any pulleys (idler or main)?
is the belt routed correctly? first time I changed one I got it wrong, and the idler was on the tension side, so a load made the belt loose!
I have had these problems this season, I have adjusted and readjusted and it keeps cutting my belts, now I am thinking about replacing the whole deck, or just sell the mower and buy a new one.
Felipe Hernandez. Stir I have a Craftsman lawn mower probably 15 years old I've even went down putting new starter on it it is the Craftsman lawn mower that's got the Dual spark plug system fixed all of that and seem to be doing great and then all the sudden I don't know if it hit something or what but it killed the engine dead as a doornail the blades everything came to a stop right there I backed up as able to start the motor backup everything look fine and as I was going to start the Remo again engaged my blades my dick blades with the handle there was no nothing there I mean it's just like a bunch of tension was gone off of it I've bought several parts for it isn't working
I’m at that point right now. Currently on my sixth belt in three weeks. Adjusted and readjusted......still breaking. I want to drive this thing into the ocean🤬
What also Burns belts if the belt is outside of the pulley bracket it will break extremely fast.
What if the belt wares out form the part the is touching the pullys
Omg I dont even have a bar around my pulley I'll have to check my guides before I start the mower from now on
I have a blend mtd product the manufacture belt is to small on the deck and every belt I've tried gets too tight when changing deck height and they burn or break i have noticed that the belt tensioner seems to not return far enuf can u help
+stanley johnson not too sure what the problem would be, best solution to your problem would be to sell it and buy a different one. Sorry I could not be of more help good luck with your problem.....
Also blow off the grass clipping from off your deck after each use. I use a cheap electric leaf blower.
Zero turns clean up pretty quickly but makes a massive cloud of dust
yeah good call,I do same except use air compressor 👍
My belt guide for the front crank pulley sits about 4 inches closer to the front of the pulley barely covering the belt and pulley. Seems to only go back on that way. Could this be wrong? My belt keeps coming off and I went 2 sizes down with the belt. I get about 15 minutes out of it before it comes off.
Buy a new mower.
Lube the engager as well
I love the smell of a burning belt!
Yeah cause that means its gripping & working right 😏
Good news on wear of belts.
nice paddy hat :P
I have a 2011 42" craftsman riding mower, I've replaced spindles, idler pulleys, belts.. The deck engagement pulley, spins, but the deck belt not spinning, the right size belt.. 😠seems awful loose...
Are the idler pulleys exactly the same size? I got a used mower and have been repairing and replacing things. Started it up.... smoking the belts. My fault for being cheap and impatient I guess.
Yes same size pulleys, Also replaced the idler arm bracket, shoulder bolt.. Now even with blades not engaged, the drive belt wants to spin on deck.. Frustration..
Jason Myjak, I was having similar problem, my new belt worked very well, due to being less stretched I and thicker I guess, have only mowed with it once though. Are there any adjustments you can make? I have various connection points that are similar to a tie rod on a car that has a jam nut. Are you able to put a larger idler pulley(s) without interference? That will take some slack out of the belt and provide more tension. Also, seat safety was kicking me in the ball$! I'd engage the PTO to observe the belt and its route, then it'd seem to die under load... nope, seat safety switch. Good luck, stay with it (but maybe have a $$ limit, it adds up quick)!
I decided to give a local mower service place call.. my left brake arm is worn out, so basically when the blades are Not Engaged, the brake pulls away to cause pulley to turn... I just need new brake arm. Thanks for trying help me figure problem.. I'll post when I get parts together
left side of my mower deck is basically hanging and wont lift. troy bilt pony 2007
I'd check for missing lift linkages. Get a diagram and look for anything missing or out of place.
WHich bearings may be bad? The blade bearings?
it could be any bearing on the deck, best to check them all..
@@z-hut1663 How do you check the bearings? What exactly are we looking for? Loose? Wiggle? Squeaky???
My blades doesn’t even start is there a way to fix that?
Are they just seized up? Or is your belt too long?
Just like any other belt
Had almost all those issues 🤣
It don't really get good till 8:00 minutes in! LOL
KROSNIT at 10:04 happens the grand finale.
Can you add some obnoxious Rap music to your video where I can't hear anything you are saying 😅
