“About a year ago, I started writing a new Owl City album. I remember thinking, I haven’t really written a lot of songs about my own personal life story. I haven’t written a whole lot ‘bout some of the people in my life who have really impacted me. I haven’t really written about some of the amazing places I’ve been blessed to visit, or some just some of the things that have happened to me over the past 30 years. I started writing these autobiographical songs and it felt like I was watching my own movie. The last 30 years of my life sort of appeared to me and every song I wrote was like watching a scene or a highlight of my life. I remember thinking, this is so special, this is very new for me, very new territory. But writing these deeply personal songs is so compelling that I have to chase this inspiration ‘cause I have to find out where this is gonna lead me."

Winners Never Quit:
It's "the fable had it right" not "the fable hatted write"
Madeline Island:
It's "La Pointe", not "the point" (look up Madeline Island, WI)
Also, it's "Big Bay State Park", not "big base state park"
In New York City, the last line goes We'll buy one in the next small town. I know this because of a lyric hint that was posted on Instagram a while back.
‘House Wren’, ‘Lucid Dream’, and ‘Firebird’ all sound like the style of Owl City that I fell in love with.
There’s something here for everyone.

Winner’s Never Quit, House Wren and Cinematic are going to change my fucking life man.
I remember waking up somewhere around 3 AM on June 2nd and being really excited to listen to all of these new songs. I remember smiling for a solid half hour, my eyes watering from sheer happiness and awe while listening to Madeline Island, Firebird, and Cinematic for the first time. I remember immediately falling in love with House Wren for its cheerful, upbeat tune. I remember listening to Fiji Water for the first time back in December, and hoping that the rest of the album would be just as good--clearly I was way off, as the rest of the album went above and beyond any expectations I could have had.
I know I can't pick a favorite. Montana's alt is...beautiful, for lack of a better word. It's so calm and peaceful, feels like it could cure my insomnia. Cinematic itself, especially the music that follows the chorus, never fails to put a huge smile on my face. I can't be depressed or upset while listening to House Wren--that song just makes me really happy. Madeline Island's chorus makes me imagine a breathtaking scene, and upon seeing images of the island, it certainly painted the right picture. Firebird appropriately makes me think of my sister, and somehow makes me nostalgic for something I never had.
I may not be able to say "I've been here since Of June", but in my opinion, that's not all that matters. I loved Owl City years ago, when I was around eight or nine, but eventually ended up losing interest for whatever stupid reason. Back in September of last year, I rediscovered the twelve or thirteen songs that I had known, and in December, I decided to go beyond that and listen to/download _every Owl City song_ that was listed on azlyrics. In the span of two weeks, I already had new favorites, and I already knew most of his songs. This September I might even be going to an Owl City concert--and if I am able to, that will probably be the single greatest day of my life.
The more I sit on it the more I think I understand what Adam was trying to achieve with “all my friends”. It’s different and it’s not something people are gravitating towards because honestly, it sounds like it should be on Disney channel. It’s corny and I think that’s the point. This album is an autobiography and life is cheesy sometimes, especially when you’re with your friends. Not every life experience is whimsical and serene with perfect music and lyrics all the time and maybe Adam knows that and stepped out of his comfort zone to write that song because it’s realistic to life itself. Maybe? It’s not my favorite by any stretch but I have to appreciate his story as it is
Most people are judging it because of how it sounds, which I agree, sounds corny and pretty bad honestly, but the message behind it is that Adam feels nostalgic about old times with his friends. Honestly, I think the song works pretty well with what he was feeling and what he was trying to get across.
The alt version is kinda nice tho...
So weird to come back to this now when I know all of the songs by heart.
Adam's the best. :)

I might say New York City is more Ultra Violet...listen to the instrumental, it's pure classic old-style Owl City in terms of instrumental.

err bot agora pub I usually think of maybe I'm dreaming as this imaginative, highly electronic album, and I don't see a lot of that in winners never quit. It's more of an uplifting song. If anything, I think lucid Dream is closest to maybe I'm dreaming

I think the diehard old style fans will be pleasantly surprised by Cinematic. This sounds like the comeback many have waited for.
Some of these tracks sound like they could belong in Maybe I'm Dreaming, Ocean Eyes, or All Things Bright and Beautiful (well, apart from the difference in Adam's voice now). I really hope this album is great. It's been a long time since I've felt connected to or truly pleased with Owl City...
I genuinely wonder if Adam released All My Friends first to shock us so we'd be brought back up when hearing the rest of the songs on the album 🤔 I'm definitely preordering

I will not say my faith in the album is now restored, although I will say that now I'm even more excited about the release of this album. Even though All My Friends is not his best work, it's definitely not worthy of all the hate it's getting. It may not be the "Owl City magic" I was hoping for, but I still liked it. And if that was the way he was going to go with this album, so be it. I'd buy it anyway. I've always had a soft spot for pop songs, even the silliest and most generic ones, like Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson. Although, I had a feeling "All My Friends" was going to be the farthest he'd stretch. I'll only stop listening to Owl City when he swears in his songs and starts talking about crude subjects. Musical style is no matter to me. He could release a heavy metal album tomorrow and I'd still buy it. Because I'm not only a fan of his music, but also his character. And as long as his heart and soul remain inside his music, I'll keep on listening.

Absolutely! I don't just love his work, I love who he is. I've always kept up my faith in him, and I'm very excited for the album. To me, it's Owl City and Adam through and through (from what I've heard) and I have faith that it'll be enjoyable, even if I may not be head over heels in love with every song.

Ok I honesty was expecting this new album to sound like All My Friends, like yknow that new pop sound, but I’m actually really excited because a lot of these songs remind me SO much of his old albums. Still the free spirited, whimsical, dream-like music I fell in love with years ago. I literally can’t wait until the release date

I totally agree, when I was listening to all these for the first time and got to that one I winced a little cause it doesn't sound too good haha, but seriously every other song sounds amazing!

Why do the alternate versions sound so much better?
Upon listening the the previews of "Cinematic," I've come to the conclusion that the 'Break' Adam Young took for two years was to "breath in that fresh air," so he can regain himself, and isolate from all the media along with performing in many concerts that would hinder his known "magical creativity", but that's just my assumption.
Sure Mr.Adam's music has evolved over the years but as he stated, he wants to experiment with new sounds and since he's a dedicated artist, he loves his dear Hootowls and he would try to incorporate his sound form the "early days."
This album sound like a mix of his first Owl City albums along with the Scores as many said, with some songs having a Sky Sailing vibes. Cinematic sounds like the Nostalgic-Driven album we fans have been anticipating for many years, and surely the wait was well worth it.
My apologies for the incredibly lengthy comment but thanks for reading, who's excited for "Cinematic."

Lucid Dream, Fiji Water, and New York City were all bops and fun songs and some of my fave songs by him already. Montana was also really nice. I'm really looking forward to Cloud Nine and Cinematic. Firebird also sounds nice. I can't wait till June 1st!

Not even gonna lie, the original version of All My Friends sounds RIDICULOUSLY try-hard with it's acoustic guitar, audience vocals, campfire-esque nonsense. But when I hear the alternate version, it's as if it was the original, fit quite well with the album... and wasn't at all deserving of being a single. Just something else nice to listen to with the rest. There are many other songs here that would've done so much better as a first promotion for the album.
