I just love the ocean, I want to study it. I want to work to conserve it, and I want to be in it. I can’t remember a time in my life where I haven’t been fascinated and in absolute love of the ocean. Especially after going scuba diving in the Cayman Islands and seeing eagle rays and sharks(where do I begin on my love for sharks). Every time I go in it or see the ocean I’m reminded of how beautiful and amazing it is.

I saw many coral reefs, i had alot of fun. Now im in middle school, studying a little about marine life.

Exact same thing for me!! When I was at Hanaumah Bay snorkeling six years ago, I was ten. We went there for my tenth birthday to celebrate hitting double digits. (Spoiled I know.) After snorkeling and swimming with dolphins, (Nani was her name) I knew this career was the one I wanted.
Hate to break it to you guys but this career is mostly spent in a lab or a place to study the ocean you will only be in it getting samples a fraction of the time
I've always adored sea life. I have family living in tropical places such as Thailand and I go there so much. I go snorkeling and I always end up watching sea life videos. I'm aware of the climate change and I try to convince everybody of how important it is. Always when I go to to swim on the ocean I bring with me the snorkel and the glasses. I started thinking that I wanted to study marine biologist when I went to see orcas, whales, and dolphins, it was amazing. I'm in my first year of college and for my first semester I studied computer animation because I'm very good at art and wanted to make video games, however it just wasn't exciting me. Over my winter break I happened upon "Blue Planet II" on Netflix and began sobbing hysterically at the end of the first episode because it hurt me so much to see how the animals were affected by the melting ice caps. I sat there feeling more frustrated than I had ever felt in my life when I realized that I could help fix it. I've always been in love with animals, I love keeping aquariums, I got all A+'s in my science classes, and I remember wanting to be a marine biologist for a while as a young girl after my girl scout troop stayed overnight at an aquarium and got to see behind the scenes. Now I've changed my major to biology. I'm just getting my associate's at a community college but I hope to transfer somewhere to specialize in marine conservation biology. My best friend is also studying marine conservation biology at a 4 year school nearby and says she can hook me up with volunteer opportunities so it feels like I've finally found the right path in life. This was very inspiring to watch and gave me a glimpse into a better future for myself.

i really love it. it just reminded me my post graduation days wer we used to do our practicals during midnight and we quite enjoyed it. Marine biology is something interesting and tough.....
There is many other fields in Biology. also you can study biomed, wich combines your interests in human biology with the reasearch technics of a scientist, this give you the advantage to avoid all the burocratic crap and stress of being a surgeon.
I grew up in the midwest and did my undergrad in landlocked state. You definitely don't need to be near the ocean to be a marine biologist. That's what grants and field work is for!

Oh yeah definitely! I'm in 9th grade and this is absolutely my dream job. I've actually considered moving to Hawaii or California also. There's a website I found that tells you how much you'll make in a year depending on the state you live in. I've been researching a lot too
USF in Tampa,Fl and USFSP in St.Pete,Fl have some of the best marine science programs in the country, not to forget all of the major vessels and big labs(the labs are a dream come true for any MB) I've been wanting to be a MB since I was 5 and I'm about to graduate and go to study, have fun and be passionate about whatever you want to do😊

After watching the documentary Chasing Coral I'm truly believing that there are other jobs out there that could fit my dream to travel and protect the world. However Ive never scuba dived before and might be scared of the ocean. Im truly unsure of what to do. What would you say different biologists can do? Can you not know how to scuba dive and still see yourself doing such a career?

Depends what university you want to go to. For example in Australia (where I live) they offer marine biology courses at James cook university and the requirements into there is Maths B (hardest maths) and at least one science. And Griffith universities requirements are that you can do maths A (normal maths) up to the hardest with at least one science :) depends what university you go to and where you live
To stay in science you usually need a PhD. But PhDs in field ecology can involve all kinds of travel and exploration. You can also get jobs in tropical ecology or conservation with a bachelors or a masters. It depends on exactly what you want to do.

I'm currently a music major, but I'm looking to switch to Marine Biology. I've always loved to study sharks and fish and I've always wanted to scuba dive and live by the ocean. I would possibly work at the Aquarium near me as soon as I finish as a science major. Any tips? I've never really liked math, but I've always loved reading about things and learning often. I know science and math go hand in hand in this world, so I know I'll have to suck it up as it will be worth the experience and knowledge learned. Not to mention hopefully a good pay

I'm finishing my 4th year of management course and then most likely switching to the university of edinburgh for a master in marine policy and systems. I want to think long and hard about it though, as I do still want to spend some time in the marine field. So might be a scuba instructor for a couple of years first. I’ve wanted to be a marine biologist for many years. But now every third teenage girl who likes dolphins wants to be one too and there is probably going to be too much competition.
I want to become a marine biologist and a wildlife biologist but the problem is to become a marine biologist is that I have no place in my state that is by the ocean. But lucky for me in my country I have universities that are by states by the ocean (if that made any sense). I just wish people would stop littering the ocean and killing of all animal species in the ocean, it's just disgusting that people do that.

For example in Australia (where I live) they offer marine biology courses at James cook university and the requirements into there is Maths B (hardest maths) and at least one science. And Griffith universities requirements are that you can do maths A (normal maths) up to the hardest with at least one science :) depends what university you go to and where you live

To stay in science you usually need a PhD. But PhDs in field ecology can involve all kinds of travel and exploration. You can also get jobs in tropical ecology or conservation with a bachelors or a masters. It depends on exactly what you want to do.

I'm currently a music major, but I'm looking to switch to Marine Biology. I've always loved to study sharks and fish and I've always wanted to scuba dive and live by the ocean. I would possibly work at the Aquarium near me as soon as I finish as a science major. Any tips? I've never really liked math, but I've always loved reading about things and learning often. I know science and math go hand in hand in this world, so I know I'll have to suck it up as it will be worth the experience and knowledge learned. Not to mention hopefully a good pay

I want to become a marine biologist and a wildlife biologist but the problem is to become a marine biologist is that I have no place in my state that is by the ocean.
But lucky for me in my country I have universities that are by states by the ocean (if that made any sense).
