RACE DAY - Mountain Bike Race (a cycling race vlog)

- I borrowed a norco 29er mountain bike from Wilson's bicycles in Clovis Ca, and headed to the Springville Fat Tire Classic, which is a mountain bike race. I raced the sport class but we all started together and I got 4th overall, 1st in the sport class.
I vlogged the whole the thing and hope you enjoy this mountain bike race vlog.

I did a very similar thing and entered an MTB race after my road season this year. I love mountain biking, always have done but never wanted to race it as I felt it would ruin my enjoyment.. Anyway came away with a 3rd place and my first ever cup in racing after trying so hard! Now looking to enter some more next year, hope you do too.

it does feel great on top of the podium. I have been cycling since this past April and the started racing the velodrome in July. my 2nd race ever I won the Cat 4-5 State Champs.
I don't race but it's essential to mnt bike living where I do in Idaho. Every time I mnt bike I wonder if I love it more than road biking?? Then I get back on my road bike...
Great video. btw your channel has encouraged me to become vegetarian. Two months in and I feel great. it's a challenge though as my husband and kids are major carnivores.

you have to try a cross bike. i think it would suit your riding profile. see if you can get an loaner. just to ride for fun and not competition is a great feeling and you get to do it on "road bike". Food looks awesome!
As a rodie, its fine to sandbag in XC and cross. I do it all the time, they catch me on the descents.

Should prepare for next year's Baja Ultraendurance 100 in Ensenada near Tijuana! 100kms with over 2500 meters of total elevation gain in a mtb! Best north and south american mtbikers come every year in October!

MTB is awesome, this is my first year cycling after decades away and I started with my first event being a 24 hour mountain bike race. Team of 6, all day thru the night! Crashed several times but always got up , wiped the dirt and blood and kept pedalling!
Did a few other road events but the mtb event stands out by far.
Check out Chico Racing Albion Hills in Ontario Canada, its the largest North American mtb 24hr event.

Clark Aylward I’ll start with the “no” because it’s quick and easy: No - Not if you’re trying to get really good at road racing. You might see Lance on the mountain bike from time to time but he’s more the exception than the rule. There’s lots of stuff Lance does that you don’t see any other human beings do. I guarantee Cadel didn’t ride his mountain bike for training leading up to his world title yesterday. It has everything to do with specificity. If you want to maximize your potential for road racing you have to do things in training that mimic exactly what you need to be doing in racing. Needless to say road riding is better at preparing you for road racing than mountain biking is - period.
Now for the fun stuff: Yes - Very few of us reading have the dedication and ambition to be world class roadies (well, maybe Gerro, Kempy and Jonodo). Therefore I can definitely recommend you get out mountain biking to keep things fresh. The only caveat I’ll say is that you shouldn’t replace your road training with the mountain biking if you have upcoming goals on the road in the near future. As a priority event approaches you should do less mountain biking and concentrate more on the specific demands of that road event.
