A long time ago (like 9 years) when i was around 12 years old i asked my mum for a portal gun replica i found for like 60 bucks, she told me to wait because the price will probably drop even more, and i'm still furious today when i think about it.

I just found my atlas portal gun I got about 8 years ago in my attic. So happy to see it again and give it a clean up to see it’s still working just fine.

I made one of these a few years back as well. Mine just had LEDs no sound but it was the first time I dealt with wiring stuff up like that. Yours is very cool I must say and I felt your pains in putting this together as I had a lot of the same problems.

Love this!! For the process of removing the filament lines with the whole filler and spray paint method, have you tried using plasti-dip? You'd still need to put filler on the larger cracks but the plasti-dip would fill in the rest of the surface pretty well and make it nice and smooth. If you wanted a high gloss finish you'd still probably want to spray paint it after but its really great for prop making!

I have one of those really expensive portal guns that they don't sell any more but I kinda uhhh left it in front of a window for a few years and now the whole thing is orange and it looks really really bad oops

What was different about the battery bank that you couldn't have used something like a D cell?
Unfortunately, a D cell battery wouldn't have the capacity / amps needed to power everything. Using a rechargeable battery with a high amp and power capacity powered by usb was what I needed.

I have to ask, how much did this all end up costing in the end?
There were a lot of parts I had to buy in bulk, so I would approximate it inside the $250 range, but there are ways to make the final cost cheaper.
