Amazing! I remember meeting Wycliffe Gordon at the Jen jazz festival in Atlanta many years ago! He's a super cool dude! Really makes those horns growl and sing! Such a legend! 😁👍🏻

I’ve always been of the mind that you find the horn that works for you, that feels the best in your hands, responds to your style of play, and you play it. I’ve gone through everything from Conn to Bach to Getzen to Edwards to Shires to King, and have come back to Yamaha because of not only the sound but the feel of the horns. They are not the right solution for everyone- that’s why different companies make different horns. They are the company overall whose products work best for me

Totally disagree....I was a Bach 42B guy but there were a number a Yamahas that I absolutely loved. They played much easier than the Bach, the partials in the upper register were very distinct and accurate.

I have a student bass and a professional. The professional ones project further but take a more experienced player. Carole Paul Trombonist Composer Arranger

I am amazed at how many commenters actually think this video was actually saying Yamaha trombones are not professional instruments when the whole point of the video is to clearly demonstrate that they are. Did you actually watch it before making your comments?

Yamaha trombones are easy to play

While personally a Getzen/Edwards player on trombone, Yamahas are amazing if they fit you as a player. I have a Neo euphonium that feels minimally different from a Besson, with none of the Besson tuning quirks. They are amazing instruments if you are willing to put the extra work into making them sound the way you want.

LOL. In the late 90s, everyone said this. Yamahas "scream" when pushed. If you want to be a professional, you buy a Bach. So I did - 2 of them. A Bach 42OG and a 50OG. Great horns, hated both of them. Sold them finally in 2014 and bought my Yamaha Xeno 822G. No one ever has complained about my sound on it, in any ensemble I've ever played it from quartett to symphony orchestra. So just to be different (I suppose) I not only went with Yamaha, I went with an dependent bass instead of the "usual" independent bass. Retired now, so only play for my own enjoyment. If I were still active, I'd probably sell my Rath R400 and buy a Yamaha 882xx tenor.

I like my Yamaha student horn, but I am buying a better trombone just because I have started to grow out of it and it isn’t the sound I want.

Definetely professional trombones. I think there was a meme video about it years ago that someone put shitty sound intentionally on yamaha trombone demonstration video but can't find it anymore.

@@user-qr3uj6wq2z I think it’s more that almost all student trombones are Yamaha that give them that reputation

I'm happy with my '81 restored Bach 42b, & I don't want to spend the money to replace it, but pro Yamaha horns are definitely an option as well. Steve Shires even called Yamaha "a good company." It's what works best for you. George, Canada
