The P99 was the first firearm I ever bought, and is still a go-to favorite. AND coveted by anybody that's shot it. I've turned down some offers and will continue to do so. I may look into an upgrade (well, update), I've heard good things about the Q and even the Creed line, but the 99 is one of my best investments.

The P99 was beautiful in every way (without the allowance of 3rd party accessories). Shoots flat is good for those who are intimate with shooting at range. The extra long pull forced focus on the sights. Having a right index finger mag release allowed maintaining proper grip while grabbing the extra mag in your off hand for reload.
While the lack of deep texture of the grip might be a problem the deeper finger grooves made up for that (I feel anyway).
And though it might not be huge, lighter weight allowed maintaining a steady sight line.
I am interested in the PDP though as it is cheaper....

@@krisbennett9852 yeah Glock can improve. They're not true perfection; they are glock perfection which means nothing. They need a better trigger, better sights, and better ergonomics (grip angle mainly). It's an unnatural grip angle. You need to learn to point the glock after years of training. Many gun companies have a natural point of aim like Walther, Springfield, CZ, Sig Sauer, Canik, S&W, and so many others. They all have a natural point of aim.

  • @AARONSHEERN

The trick to the P99's trigger is to think of it like the P38. It's a DA/SA system, first pull is long, every pull after is crazy short and crisp. You also forgot to mention the very convenient cocked indicator on the back. Pro tip, if you already de-cocked the gun and want to use it in SA, do a brass check. Pulling the slide back about 5mm is all it takes to cock the striker.

Been using a Gen 1 P99 for years, and while the PDP may have all the bells and whistles, the ability to carry in DA mode is highly desirable.
Springfield XD mags, at least the .40 standard length ones, can have the mag catch cut added and work perfectly in the P99.
The only bad thing about the P99, especially in the later versions is the inability to put a red dot on the gun.

Walther is just that special company. They are different than all the rest. Every model firearm they produce are just great.
I’ve owned more Walthers than any my other brand firearm. I’m a Sig guy in all honesty but on any day I’m feeling like I want a treat, I grab my pK or my ppk just for shitsngiggles.
Smooth action and easy slides on them. too many some say.
The PDP F has an unusually great grip and made for woman but I can attest that my mitts are larger than most and the gun seated into hand perfectly.
You can’t go wrong and they have lifetime warranties at no cost to mail in or fix.
    Walthers are special.

P99 trigger is awesome. Unbelievably short reset, which allows me to shoot it faster than any other pistol. Super crisp break. I would disassemble the P99 trigger bar and sear housing then put it in the PDP grip frame. P99 trigger is different but i would not say it is in any way inferior to the PPQ/PDP. I wish Walther kept with the stock P99/PPQ
sights over the new design for Glock compatibility. I find the stock sights on the P99/ standard PPQ to be dead nuts accurate. Walther PPQ SC has PPS sights, so I installed XS F8 sights on my PPQ SC without any issues whatsoever. When I went to install Glock Ameriglo i-dot pros on my PDP, it was a NIGHTMARE.

My PDP feels really good to shoot and carry. The recoil other channels stress is severely overexaggerated. It's rapid fire capability is impeccable and it's chunky frame might be thicker than the rest, but it's very concealable for average sized MEN! Yes I said MEN. (Liberals melting down right now).
The quality compared to other polymers screams GREATNESS. Especially when talking about the finish of the slide.
It took a couple of weeks for my hand to conform to the grip, but when it finally did? It became my favorite polymer pistol to date. Just my opinion. I still prefer metal guns for general shooting though. CZ75B & Beretta 92fs Italy are my faves in metal 9mm

Upgraded the sights to Trijicon’s, added a Streamlight TLR-7a, slapped it in a Tier1 slim holster and it’s my go to conceal carry rig. The P99 was my favourite gun for the last 20 years and it’s always been very dependable. Great features like the paddle mag release and the easily accessible decocker. But this week I sold it and bought a PDP 4.5, just because I wanted a change in the ‘rotation’. A couple of things that I find better on the PDP are that my trigger finger doesn’t ride along the bottom of the trigger guard and the mega slide serrations are much more comfortable to grip. He also owns a range and a great gun store. I shot it better than my other two guns. I told him to order me one right there. I'm lefty.. I carry it IWB in a Blackhawk leather belt loop holster. Great video Sootch! I liked the P99 from the Bond franchise, but I fell in love with it when I got the opportunity to handle a used model at my local shop. I ended up picking up a P99AS model in 9mm and it's my go to pistol. I love the AS trigger system; it makes follow up shots very accurate with the short reset while being safe to carry when decocked. I actually like the less aggressive texturing as it makes the pistol much more pleasant to shoot with my off-hand (whereas when I shoot my Gen 5 Glock with my off-hand it about as pleasant as getting smacked with a meat tenderizer). I definitely think the P99AS is still a worthy competitor to Walther's more contemporary pistols.

I bet a lot of accidental police shootings would be avoided if cops in the U.S. carried P99's instead of Glocks. There have been so many unintentional first shots by cops that end up killing people they didn't mean to shoot.

I really like my P 99 AS. A little practice with the unusual trigger pull and you will be surprised how well you will shoot it. Reset is fantastic and you will find that it shoots very flat and you won't pull shots left and low (for right handers) in rapid fire. Try that with your Glock and it's standard trigger. The Walther P 99 AS makes for a great carry firearm if you are carrying a Glock 19 size firearm. The paddle magazine release rocks for me, no repositioning my grip with my medium size hands. I also have a PPQ and its a has a great trigger, so I'm a fan. Pick up the boxy Glock and try to make it fit your hand. Then pickup one of these Walther's, unless you have very large hands they fit like a glove. In my opinion only, the lowly Taurus TX 22 feels better in hand. Great firearms, thank you for the review.

As I recall, the major complaints about the P99 was the kitschy traditional DA/SA & AS trigger w/decocker...as well as the Euro mag release.
In the 2nd variants, the mag release has been "improved" ( lengthened )...
also the "hump" inside of the trigger guard has be eliminated.
The "AS", Anti-Stress trigger is now being appreciated much more for its adaptability to the shooter's desires...the great success of the CANIK TP9 demonstrated this by how it has set sales records and gained wide acceptance for a newly-introduced model from a Turkish manufacturer.
Sometimes change can be difficult to accept.

Man I love the Walther P99 and all the pistols that Walther has released since then (as well as what Canik has been able to do). When I was a kid, I remember watching Underworld and loving how the Walther P99 shot in full auto (and I had a crush on Kate Beckinsale). I remember seeing it in the Bond movies as loving it as well. When my uncle bought home a P99, I thought it was the coolest pistol ever and by extension thought my uncle was the coolest person ever. He let me shoot his P99 and I fell in love. Up to that point I only ever shot my mom's Beretta 84 Cheetah and shooting 9mm kicked my ass. I couldn't get over how cool it felt to shoot the P99 and I also loved the trigger. The design of the P99 looked like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie and the button decocker blew my mind. Even now with all the new Walther pistols and all the modern/new pistols we have now, I could never replicate the feeling I got when I first saw and shot the P99.
Also 2:28 - 2:40 was such a cool transition between all 3 pistols.
