    Its the best bike I’ve ever owned. I live in British Columbia. Lots of main roads here are dirt roads. And at 150/km/h in a straight stretch. This bike feels like it on the highway. To heavy to be fun on trails. But certainly capable of them, but youre gonna work for it. Its not a light dirt bike. If i had to pick one bike for the rest of my life. It would be the desert sled, love my night train, and my hondas. But this bike doesn’t everything well. And it looks great doing it. I get more people asking about it than any of my other bikes.

      Somebody asked earlier about putting a clubman style cafe handlebars on a scrambler. How is it as a cafe racer?

  • @mikef3300
    @mikef3300 Před 2 lety +4

    Last year I decided to pick up a bike that I could use in the trails but would have the ability to ride it there instead of trailering or loading in the truck. I considered the desert sled because it looks amazing but its on the heavier side and the exhaust is pretty low and out in the open plus it being air cooled kinda worried me. I went with the ktm 690 enduro r and I really like it. I think the sled would be better on the road especially the highway but on the trails the 690 is amazing. It’s 100lbs lighter and almost the same hp. It’s suspension has more travel and the 21” front wheel makes getting over obstacles easier. It’s like a street legal dirt bike. That said I’d still like to have a desert sled in the garage to ride around town and maybe some fire roads. Very good review 👍

    • @tonebonetones
      @tonebonetones Před 2 lety +1

      Yes. But. The 690 would be naff on the roads, in town, and any motorway trip over 40 miles. The desert sled is a compromise, its not an enduro machine, and its wayyyyy lighter than a BMW GS whale barge.

    • @savage22bolt32
      @savage22bolt32 Před 2 lety

      We've been riding air cooled bikes for over a hundred years. One less system to break down.
      I think overbearing government regulations are why everything is LQ, FI & ECU these days.
      I own 6 AC bikes & one LC (CRF250L). Every time I drop it while woods riding, the first thing I check is the radiator.

    I went to a bike show here in manchester poss 2017 and sat on one as you do had a picture as you do and i thought yeah it kind of fits on the tip toes but i liked it. Fast forward a_bit and my multi was in for a service and the manchester ducati shop let me have 1 for the day. Well what a real hoot it was through manchester and out into the peak district. Fast forward a_bit and i got 1 back in 2018 and i use it for going to the gym or anywhere where you just want to throw on a jacket or go on the back b roads. Ive only done less than 3000 miles in that time but its been great. I put a loud leo vince decat end can on to give it the voice it needs but i might have to get it tuned as it seems to have lost a bit of mid range punch. The only downside is i had to go out and buy a complete new wardobe of scrambler type biking gear to go with it !

    Triumph should have made their scramblers frame smaller - they are so big they preclude any potential for real trail use. I’ve been on this bike and I’m 5’6 with a 30’ inseam and it’s perfectly fine, feels much more agile and light, and I’d have little issue with trails despite what the numbers say - they are worlds apart and I’m a Triumph owner
