  • Clyde Film (1985) by Ian Venart, Charlie Tracy, Ian Miller, Mandy Merrick, Alistair McCallum & Ken Currie
    Running Time: 32mins 23secs
The film utilises a pictorial documentary style using music and images to tell the story of Glasgow and its people, montaging scenes shot in Glasgow with archive footage and stills. It uses traditional Glasgow and political songs to do the storytelling and sits in a lineage of films about the city which include Marzaroli’s ‘Dear Green Place’ (1968), ‘Glasgow 1980’ (1971) and the Dawn Cine Group’s ‘Let Glasgow Flourish’ (1956).
Cranhill Arts then concentrated on photography as a more accessible and democratic medium, and inspired, in part, by Marzaroli’s stills they went on to undertake the biggest photographic survey in Scotland with the project ‘Glaswegians’ by taking 29,000 photographs up to and during Glasgow City of Culture 1990.

A lot has changed since I was born in the forties, and not always for the better, but I still love the old place.

I don’t see charity shops or poundlands as bad tho. Better than empty shells. Vape shops on the other hand- bloody vampires, feeding off poverty and despair.

I was a small kid in south west glasgow mid 70s. My glasgow was and is green, leafy, beautiful, cosmic, near albert park. Lovely memories that are with me now. Right this instant, i feel im there. Stood looking at the cart and the trees. I think the junction of cart side street and carmichael place is a very special place.

A lot of them are gone now sadly, coz they weren't maintained as well as they should've been as well as being trashed/ vandalised by residents/ surrounding locals who felt no connection to them.
I still stay in one group that I think/hope will last the test of time.

so folks going on about the high flats and there demolishing. yeah was all part of councils , sneaky long term plan of gentrification. i lived in red rd, shawbridge street and tarfside oval flats. You think the people that lived in these flats are now staying in the £200k+ plus houses that occupy some of these sites now? yeah 20% in almost all cases got to remain in that area with the "new builds" and the rest private houses/flats. Gorbals high rises? Hutchie etc, want a flat there now? hope you have spare 300k to live in "new gorbals". That was not modernisation. The council should have done them up and put restrictions on who lived there eg you work or have a family. They offered an amazing view of the city which we live and the whole clyde valley. Want to live like that now? yeah go and live down glasgow harbour at 1k PM , otherwise, look at a main road out your window from your ground floor cheap new house as your replacement-disgusting. What about south nitshill? full massive council estate, being knocked down for "modernisation", now chock full of £300k+ houses on probably band d/e council tax band and not 1 resident from that area of the old scheme there..........................yeah nothing to see here.
