    Love those stainless steel stripe subway cars. Anything built by Budd is just cool and seems to never break down like the new stuff does...

      They arent subway cars. They are EMU Railroad cars

      Read up on the Budd Metroliners.. Amtrak couldn't wait to throw them in the trash for their god awful reliability... At least we got some cool cab cars to remember them by

    Does anyone agree that the PATCO Speedline should appear as a route, trains and all, in Train Simulator 2021~2022?

  • @philnaegely

    I rode on the last "non refurbished" car before they were taken out of service. Rode one heading to phillies game and another when I left early since it was raining. The driver who drove the last one had been with PATCO for 30-40 years. PATCO made sure to let the riders know which trains that day would be the old cars too.

    @davidng2336 Před 3 lety +8

    It’s interesting some cars managed to keep the old motors. Also can easily distinguish the former single motors now formed into married pairs. The other good thing is that they kept a front window in the full width cab.

      It because the Alstom got a lot of DC Motor From Retired Metro North M1A and Put them inside the Patco car Their very similar and built by the same company

    I love how they accelerate really fast

  • @billplatt
    @billplatt Před 3 lety +3

    My favorite. Those Budd cars acceleration is crazy, they sound beautiful even after the rebuild, and Patco still the only success story of passenger rail in South Jersey. Riverline was initially successful but has faded. The ACL is what it is. The GCL will likely never exist because of pushback.

    • @philnaegely
      @philnaegely Před 3 lety +1

      actually the GCL took a big step forward recently. Riverline is very successful when there are events in camden which are on hold.

      I remember those days. It was preciously around the same time NJT sent out out a press release of sorts openly inviting trainspotters to their platforms and if anyone gives them crap about to report it. Yeah, Patco used to be down right vicious about photographing their trains.

      I don't know the exact details but apparently the new software didn't mesh well with the older DC motors, causing system issues. Though from what I understand these have been pretty much fixed by now

      It's a subway. It has an operator, no conductors, no on-board fare collection or ticket-checking, frequency is 10-15 minutes apart as opposed to an hour apart. Meets the definition of a subway.
