For those who don't already know, you CAN modify the F701 to accept Fisher Space Pen refills with a simple push pin. All you need to do is open up the pen and push the plastic piece out of the tip of the pen...takes about 5 seconds. Then it will take the Fisher refills perfectly. I have done this with all my F701s, which is my GO TO pen. Nice video.

But why? I have 2 Fisher Space pens, and I dislike writing with them a lot (and I hate trying to draw with them).
The ink are so tick/dry ... It is a struggle to use and not joyfull at all.
Give me a nice Uni Jetstream any day. - It is lovely easy to drag on paper.

    Loved the pilot razor point!
    I've carried a 701 for years...steel barrel..damn near indestructible(just don't launder it)..great for airplane travel...doesn't draw a second glance.

The Zebra F-701 has a new type of refill cartridge and is much improved.

Thank you; I think that’s the best description of the x701. I haven’t spend the money on the X701 because it just looked like a black F701. BTW - I agree with you on the pen channels. I like your take on pens. New Subscriber

Zebra has made some great pens but crappy refills, so I just adapt/trim cheap plastic ballpoint pen refills to fit ... and they work great! I wish they also did the F-701 in sprayed-on black, blue, red, etc. I actually love the Zebra F-605, which is sadly no longer made ... I have two of them (plus the pencils) and they are beautiful!

Been using the same X-701 since 2018. Bought a big pack of refills and still have a ways to go. I work outside at least 6 hours a day in Phoenix, AZ. So many blown out refills, broken pen bodies and failed clicking mechanisms throughout the years. Glad to finally have a writing instrument I can depend on.

From what I have read, the X-701 has more plastic parts vs the f-701. The latest 701 have all metal insides again. I put a fisher refill in mine to get it to be a great pen!

Currently using the Tiscribe Bolt with a pilot g2 0.38mm refill. Same build quality as the tactical pens but with out the "tacticoolness" that I find completely unnecessary in a writing implement. I think a gel or rollerball refill will get you that smooth writing that you're looking for.
Edit: I'm actually using a Pilot G2 0.5mm refill bhut I do have one in 0.38mm that I can use if I need a finer tip.

Try the Jetstream refill by Uni-ball now called just Uni. very smooth.

I prefer the g402. Fine tip, smooth. And all metal budget gel roller version of the f 701. It's a win for me

I would recommend the bigidesign Ti Click EDC. It's a bit expensive but can take so many more refills. Another one I carry regularly is the Bastion Bolt pen in CF. Good weight and not too heavy; it takes parker refills.

    • @diskobean
      @diskobean Před 4 lety +1

I LOVE my Bastion CF EDC Pen. Out of the million EDC Pens I have though, I LOVE my Refyne EP1 EDC Pen the most/best. Deep carry pocket clip that's removable, and with a Torx T6 screw head, you can always assure yourself that the bolt and pocket clip are held onto the pen securely, which is great piece of mind!!!
Also, it takes the MANY various Parker G2 refills (my personal favorite is the Parker .7mm GEL refill tip in black or blue). And it's size is absolutely perfect for ME, because it's super short, yet long enough for me to write extremely comfortably for long periods of time. It's slightly longer than a Fisher Trekker Space Pen, so it fits in any pocket very easily.
But above EVERYTHING else, the HQ machining is the biggest standout, and why it's my favorite EDC Pen that is ALWAYS with me.
And if you don't like gel refills, I HIGHLY recommend the Schmidt Easyflow refills, which are a oil-based/water-based hybrid that just flows wonderfully 😎👍

And at $40/shipped for the Refyne EP1 EDC Pen, it's priced VERY fairly and quite cheap IMO 😎👍🕺✌️

The pressurization is so you get the same effect as a space pen refill with a regular ballpoint. Not only is the flow maybe a little more consistent, but you should be able to do space pen shit (writing upside down and the like) too. As for refills, just browse jetpens. You should be able to filter refills by size and style to get what you need. Uni just started making their hybrid Jetstream ink in a Parker style. Japanese companies tend to go pretty fine as well.

I just gotten my first (3) Zebra F-701, I looove the grib! But....
Just give me Uni Jetstream 1.0 mm ballpoint pen. They are just awsome!
I do not get the argument about dropping a pen. I have never crushed a pen by dropping it .... and plastic holds up.
Get BiC Cristall or Bic Round Stic. February 2024 you get 8 for 1,35 in Dollar Tree. - You can drop them and they will properly last you the last of your life.

One of the better clips but has "gel" (liquid) ink, which I do not like because it smears and could leak. Very similar to the Pilot Juice. I like the Pilot Down Force for EDC. You may want to check out the Uni-Ball Power Tank.

Big fan of the F701!! X701- not so much. I prefer my F701 with an Ohto Flashdry 0.5mm needle tip (eBay: 5 for $8 from Japan). IMO, it is the perfect combo if you love the F701 and you like fine gel ink. Also, if you’re able, give the Fisher space pen refill another try but in fine point. I got far less skipping/blobbing when I got rid of the medium.

The only thing about the X-701 is that the whole body is metal EXCEPT the threads that hold the top & bottom parts together, which is plastic. It makes no sense at all because it's creates a weak link/failure point if you ever have to actually do something tactical with it. It makes the all metal body...irrelevant.

X701 is far from tactical. It has a plastic grip end of the pen.
