Where’s the half of the Alfredo’s aria? It was chopped off abruptly, it sounds so strange. He would have done the angry rage aria very well. And also that particular part is one of the significant arias of Alfredo’s whole arias. Very strange decision on their part considering it is a well done performance

Is there ANY possibility of obtaining this wonderful presentation on DVD? I would be most happy and honored to buy and own it. I don't even care that much about the Korean subtitles; I just purchased the Italian/English libretto so I can follow the opera more closely. I've written to KBS but they haven't responded. And I've been told that you can't burn a DVD from anything on youtube :-(
I would also love to have Don Carlo, as well.
And while I'm at it, will someone upload Seung seo Na in the recent production of Carmen??? He is so excellent.

Unfortunately, the opera DVD of Korea is not yet activated.
Seung seo Na - carmen ...I've found no broadcast video.
However, I have file naseungseo sung in korea national opera 2013 opera gala - carmen : Jose's aria (La fleur que tu m′avais jetée)

duddmsrhdms Yes, thank you; I have seen your upload of that aria. I have been fortunate in being able to purchase several little-known Cd's in which naseungseo has participated.
I keep hoping; thank you again.

duddmsrhdms Thank you, yes. I saw the 2013 1/2 Opera Gala, and at the very end of that first part, Na comes in with the red flower (a rose?) and sings "La fleur que tu m'avais jetee." Then that crazy look in his eyes as he exits the stage. I loved it all.
I didn't like all the performers - the Matador, for instance.

Not Bad, but flawed. The soprano has a strong voice and she can hit the interpolated E above high C at the end of the first act. She could do the coloratura clearly hitting each note without sounding mushy; she can emote and at times her performance was truly touching. The tenor has a decent tone and sings well also. The production (setting, props etc.) was great; one of the best I have ever seen. Elegant is the word to describe it. This is a good basic opera company with some strong qualities, but it is not world class. Why? I have sung and been involved with opera for most of my life. This is not a golden age of opera and I feel somewhat reluctant to be critical when so many productions I see from "world class" houses like the MET are often worse. But this production has such strong points that it is worth pointing out how it can be improved.
The bad points were all in the style of the singing and orchestra. The soprano's tone is a bit strident. She can sing forte but she has a better tone when she is not forte. She hits the high E but not for long and it is not a robust sound. That note is what they call, in opera, a "money note." if you take it you need to hit it with strength and let it shine. She did neither so probably should have not taken it. Both she and the tenor do not modulate their voices enough. Italian opera is sung exactly by the score. the singer uses timing and coloring of the voice and varies dynamics to give expression to the music. Too often she just sang forte and when you do that it starts to sound like a yell not like music. The tenor was better but could have been more modulated. Italian opera is over the top and if it isn't sung that way then you are missing the point. The fact that the all the singers needed to be more modulated, leads me to think the music director is partially at fault.
The orchestra was precise but also could have been more expressive. The overuse of the percussion at times was very distracting and sounded like an airplane was landing on the stage. It totally ruined the end of "Addio del passato." The orchestra should never be noticed over the singers and unfortunately that was often the case. She did not die in the end which was a mistake. It grates against all the underlying currents in the rest of the opera.
I enjoyed the opera. It was good enough that I felt frustration at its flaws. It is not easy to embrace the art of another culture. Italy, wisely, does not try to perform Panson (a Korean form of theater). But opera is an international art form and there is no reason why Korea should not join in. But Italian opera has a certain style that brings out its best qualities, learing the style is difficult when it is alien to your own culture The company has great potential but needs to understand style better. It will take effort, but I think that effort, if taken, will bring excellent rewards.

So fortunate to have found this! I feel like a real cyber-detective :-)
I am following Sebastian Na (Na Seung Seo- 나승서). I'm wondering when this was performed; he looks older and his voice is much richer than when he sang Edgard in Lucie de Lammermoor with Natalie Dessay in Lyon, France (2004). Is he permanently singing in Korea, then? Or is he a participant in this opera festival, only? I love this soprano, by the way. Her name, I think, is Mija Park. I'm watching Act 1 so far; I want to see how this develops. See who plays the father; see the party scene where Violetta is denounced… and all the rest.

I am sure that sacrifices are still made in favor of family duty over the love of one's life, but isn't it the family member and not someone outside the family who is asked to make the sacrifice? I'm thinking of King Edward VIII of England, for example. He gave up his crown. Just as well, in my opinion; his brother made a better king.
Though I guess some people are bought off…
