In the last five or so Pakistan has made up its mind at every level including our establishment to straighten up things with India but the Modi factor is a very real thing. @@smilefaceofbengal This is a popular fantasy in today's Pakistan, among many others. Zia's army was the waterboy carrying US funds and weapons to Afghan fighters, nothing more. And in the process earned himself and his cronies pretty packages which they stashed away in Swiss banks - as has come to light just a few days ago. One wonders how this mythical fauj that "destroyed the soviet union" started and lost 4 wars on the trot with a third world army to its east, and lost half its country in the process.
Please enjoy these fantasies in the land of the pure, but expect ridicule when you espouse them to an international and informed audience.

I think the host, Mr. Shekhar Gupta, has erred in interpreting "happy affirmation" in Mr Imran Khan's nod when listening to Ms Boyko towards the very end of the interview. To my sight and ear, it was someone nodding to show that they are listening to their interlocutor. What Ms Boyko said was: "China played a subtle but I think very significant role in facilitating Russian-Pakistani exchanges. I know that recently while visiting Beijing you suggested that Islamabad can act as a mediator between Beijing and Washington." It has hardly the implication that Mr. Gupta has drawn."

Mr. Gupta begins his account of Ms. Oksana Boyko's interview with: "As with Confucius, ..., it is not always possible to authenticate a quote because you can pretty much make up anything and say that so and so said it. So I don't know I tried to Google it ... didn't find it at least in English ... but she quotes it so I'm sure she's right. She looks convincing and she sounds convincing. So, ...
The quote is very much from Rumi, although it is a popular translation. It is from the Mathnavi (or Masnavi on the subcontinent), Book IV, "Commentary on 'O thou that wraps thyself'" The more literal translation is:
"Be the captain of the ship in this sea of purity, for thou art a second Noah, O Mustafa.
An expert guide, with understanding, is needed for every road, especially in the road on the water.
Arise! Look upon the waylaid caravan: everywhere a ghoul has become captain of the ship.
Thou art the Khizr of time and the Deliverer of every ship: do not, like the Spirit of God, practice solitude.
In the sight of this assembly thou art as the candle of heaven: leave off severing thyself and adopting seclusion."

I don't think there was any implication in Ms Oksana Boyko's introduction or in Mr Khan's demeanor to indicate that "fools" applied to Mr Khan. The Mathnavi is spiritual, something that people in Pakistan, being more familiar with Persian and Islam, are likely to interpret. What Ms Boyko actually said is somewhat different from what Mr. Gupta has implied. Her introduction was:
"More than 700 years ago the great sufi poet Rumi penned one of the most enduring commentaries on the state of the world, comparing it to a reeling drunken body, and saying that the caravan of civilization has been ambushed. With fools in charge everywhere, he called on true leaders to stand up and be captains of their ships. Well, what does it take to navigate the dire straits of life, first as a world class athlete and then as a world leader. To discuss this, I am joined by prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan."

Just fyi, when he divorced Jemima, her father was the 5th richest british and as per their law imran had a right to claim half of the assets from Jemima which obviously were massively high for someone from our region, he refused even a single penny of it saying that it may be a part of their law but it is not what I have earned so i don't have any right to take it.

The level of knowledge of Imran khan. Before BJP, India and pakistan shared good relation. Some history lesson to Imran khan:
    1) Pakistan had war with India in 1948 and 1965 during leadership of Congress jawahar lal Nehru and lal bahadur शास्त्री respectively
    2) Pakistan was broken and Bangladesh liberated, 93000 पाकिस्तानी soldiers surrendered in 1971 war during brave lady ex pm of India indira ghandhi
    3) India captured heights of Siachin in 1984 during Congress tenure
    4) Pakistan occupied kashmere was considered as part of India with majority in Upper and lower senate of Indian Parliament at early nineties during congress tenure.
It was Ex pm of India Atal bihari Vajpaye who visited Lahore and tried to stablize relation between India and Pakistan. Pakistan had back stabbed and since then hypocracy of Pakistan on kashmere issue exposed.
So when Imran khan said that 10000 km away countries Germany and Japan shared the border, this reflects the level of his knowledge

That's a big problem on your geopolitical knowledge. Let me tell you, friends and enemies (in terms of nations) are not defined by how you meet them aur greet them. It's all about how much you are aligned with them. Modi has been meeting with Western leaders for very long time but still India can't depend upon them strategically. There is no trust at all. Everyone knows it. Xi jinping had a grand welcome in India so does it mean like china is our friend? It doesn't matter if imran is meeting Putin because Pakistan is of no use to Russia. Also, you don't have any idea about the military industrial complex of Russia and how much Russian economy is dependent on that. India is a buyer of weapons on an enormous scale. Our economy is bigger than Russia and they are very much interested for their defence, oil and gas sector to get access in Indian market. No one is friend here. It's all about money and market. You will give me something and I will give you something else. If you are in west and look towards east, Pakistan can be beneficial but if you are already standing in North which a highly mineral/oil/gas rich area, why would you like to south? You want to access indian Ocean, ok, you have india then. I don't see any logic from Russian point of view in order to engage with Pakistan. Pakistan is important for USA and China but not for Russia. Mark my words.

What I am missing / wondering is what Imran Khan's objective was in giving this interview. Is there a message to a domestic audience that look I am a global leader talking to Russian media and mentioning Kashmir or is to Russians?
More than the usual Pakistan talking points I think it's more interesting to ponder why such an interview is given in the first place.

Well the centre of all these things is China A $18.5tn economy trying to outcompete USA $24.5tn economy.
China obviously needs long term allies in the neighbourhood like Russia, Pak, srilanka, etc. and of course it wants India also in its group, because India is $3tn and growing fast, a huge market with failing manufacturing sector.
If china has to become a superpower, along its path over the next 10 years, China will face a lot of conflict and trade boycotts from the western block led by USA.
Therefore, a country like India joining its group/block is very critical milestone for China, so that its export trade remains robust even if west boycotts. Moreover, if India joins it then chances are several south east economies will join its block, as trade flow between China and south East Asia is quite big.
In view of this, they are using pakistan's peace overtures to India, and at some point of time China will make a lucrative offer to India viz. status quo in Kashmir,indo-china border, Arunachal etc. and some trade concessions to enable Make In India (as a supplier of dirty and low value added components), provided India joins China's BRI. For this purpose, they will use the good offices of Russia also.
I suspect that Russia acted in Ukraine episode with full backing of China and earlier we saw how Taliban took over Afghanistan with support from China (though it looks like Pak was the major supporter). These are all messages/signals to India, middle east and south east asian countries that US and western block are no more a superpower. They only belong to history books now.
China is indirectly saying that the west has no capacity/willingness to win wars and have no inclination to support the countries which belong to their block (such a hands-off era started with trump and now continues with biden and EU break-up an additional evidence).
Therefore, China says, if you need protection you need to talk to me.
If my above reading is correct, in the days/months to come, China will offer to Ukraine to mediate with Russia.

However nervous all of this changing geopolitical situation makes me feel. I couldn't but snicker at the innuendos most of this analysis had. CTC never disappoints.
