The Rivian R2 and R3’s looks good but can they build any of them at scale and profitably. I hope they can stay in business.

Did I hear delivery is 2 years out? It could easily slip to 30 months or more.
Robert - first, look at the "similar" models in the ICE world. It was bound to happen in the EV world, so the R2 was a great move by Rivian! Not only can they co-exist but many will like one over the other etc. Personally, I think RIvian's bigger problem is service. A friend of mine sold his R1 because service appointments are a 2 to 3 months wait. Not acceptable. So, two years for Rivian to get this out and improve on service to get it right! Otherwise, Model Y will stay on top for quite awhile, IMO. Thanks!

I still like my Y and the benefits of Software Updates keeping my Y current. It is also so fun to drive the Rivian R2 appears to be styled like any other SUV and I am so done with that.
The only problem with the new models is.. the missing parking sensors and stalks. To me, that was a big deal breaker. I love the car, I have 2022 Model Y Performance.
It's just moving the controls to the steering wheel and making it really go backwards in terms of ease of use.. was a bad idea. I hope.. like they did with the Yoke wheel, come to their senses and reverse their decision and add back stalks or at least.. add a turn signal button to each side of the wheel, instead of side by side. That would make using the signals a no brainer.
Those are integral designs so no they can’t just “go back” without redesigning the hardware, wiring harness and software

Depends if Rivian will be able to survive that long on how much cash they have as are burning through it quick. 2 years is a long time
I think the y is a nice car but the looks are beyond generic looking!! R2 looks stunning!
Rivian looks very good but doesn't have a single Service Center in Pennsylvania, NJ or DE. Why is taking so long to build a simple center in each state?
I put my reservation in yesterday for the R2. Interestingly though, the Model Y's dimensions are slightly larger in all aspects except ground clearance.
Hopefully they can start pumping these out before they run out of money.
My guess is that Amazon will be so impressed with the potential that they will up their stake in the company from 15% and provide additional funding if necessary.
Also, I quickly paid my $100 and reserv3d my 2026 Rivian R2.
The Model Y to be an SUV needs the space in the sub-trunk reshaped to enable it to store a Modern Spare wheel
I'm hoping Rivian will survive, but at 45K they will be losing money on each unit.
My guess is that the Juniper Model will be released in Berlin Q3 since US and China say 2025. Makes sense that Berlin will be tasked for this mod.
No, there won't be any bigger Model Y update this year, there just has been a tiny one in China which Europe has not gotten yet. And Europe is way less important and has way smaller production capacity than China. That is brutal as the Model Y is one of the most outdated EVs on the entire market, nobody should buy it at this point.
And I doubt that the Juniper update will be anything crazy like a 800V architecture. Model 3 also did not get anything cool and it would make more sense to introduce 800V to Model S/X first. Tesla is miles behind the competition at this point and it doesn't seem that they want to change that. New 800V chargers would indicate a technology change but they are still nowhere to be found, for example.
The Rivian R2 will actually have 800V btw, this can be assumed due to the new battery cells they use here. It competes with the E-GMP platform by Hyundai/KIA, like a Hyundai Ioniq 7/ KIA EV5, or their successors, but Rivian is generally more outdoor/sports focused.
Until these other manufacturers get their crap together when it comes to their own charging networks, Y for life

People, give Rivian a chance. Amazon vans are by Rivian. I think Rivian could pull through. Coming from a Model Y owner… I really like my Model Y, but Tesla is losing its grip.
First rivian has to get it to production and public deliveries before they go bankrupt to even pose any threat to Tesla. Nice try
Heck, I snagged a great deal on a '24 Model Y Long Range, stealth grey, white interior. $41.5K Ordered it last week, picking it up tomorrow. I really wanted steering wheel stalks.
Rivan has an interesting concept but can they really LAUNCH? We have seen a lot of others promise bigger range but yet able to produce their vehicle. Rivan is still having issues in production & major Service issues. I will wait for the Juniper. Look at the refresh 3 and just think what Tesla could do to the Y! Makes the "Juices Flow"

I have most of my net worth in tsla, but I like the body style of the rivian more, which makes me hope Tesla has some urgency and not become complacent.
Model Y, every time. Love my Model Y long range AWD, bought in Nov 2023. Never heard of Rivian and their vehicles look like they were designed by lego.

Yes it does, oddly at least from the pictures/videos it's on the opposite side of the of a traditional Tesla port. I would hope they would fix that.

I don't think Rivian R2 will displace Model Y because Rivian loses money on each and every unit they produce, in the neighborhood of $80,000 I believe. That makes it pretty tough for them to even begin to think about threatening Tesla in any way.
Tesla has stopped innovating and removed features like sonar and stalks.
The model Y was excellent in 2022.
It’s just better than average in 2024 with more EV competitors particularly Rivian.

I think you miss the point. There are still plenty of ICE cars sold in 2024, all new EVs are different options against ICE cars. Tesla cannot appeal to everybody, so it is nice to have other good EVs. The model Y sales can grow dramatically even with many other EVs also with growing sales. Not to mention it is quite different to present a prototype and to produce cars, especially while making money.
Looks like you have a huge problem with understanding concept of a time. You return your Tesla model y … in 2025. Rivian has just launched T2… in second half of 2026. Seriously stop that madness!
It can be pain in the ass when it comes time to getting parts for repairs from small scale car maker like Rivian. I would wait until they scale up. Also if no FSD by 2026 would be a deal breaker.

I want to get the Wife a R2 but only if they will have a 3rd row option. We have 4 kids. If our model Y can fit our whole family, there’s no way that a 3rd row wouldn’t fit in this bigger SUV. R1S for the basic model for 80K is WAY too much.
It’s a 5 seater.

Rivian will not make it to 2026. They don't know how to make make a mass market car profitably in high numbers. Furthermore they showed the new product way too early so that people will stop buying the old version. Already weak sales will decline even more. The cash burn will run out of control and sadly Rivian will be bankrupt before this car hits the streets.
