Nice to see you back Del, who makes the kitchens you fit as in my past experience I often found the likes of end panels would be the same width as the units from most kitchens suppliers, which would ultimately have caused you problems where you pulled them off the wall.

Hey Del, just tried fitting a Neff integrated dishwasher like that one into a hole which one of the units was off plumb which meant the door of the dishwasher could not open as it caught as it went under at the bottom. Right pain. Only thing I knew you would have space at the back as the legs wind out miles giving space behind for pipe runs having just done one 👍🏻

Brings back bad memories . A year ago I had my kitchen designed by a well known uk kitchen company . The designer made about 4 errors in the layout and caused the joiner an absolute headache. Can't believe he managed to get a kitchen out of it. Even had to cut down a plate rack display unit so it fitted correctly altering the width from 800 to 720.
Great explanation regarding the corner wall unit, it can catch you out if you're not careful. The problem I have with them is that it restricts the base unit corner filler. Having square 600mm wide off cuts of MFC or chipboard flooring is handy to fix at the appliance openings, keeps everything rigid and straight while the units get fixed to the wall and for the templates. Great work, looking forward to the plinth part.👍

Carpenters usually end up rectifying the kitchen designers plans...all looks good on autocad...but liasing with good tradesmen is paramount for a project to succeed.taking time setting out is a slow process,but in the long run it all falls in place and produces a far superior finish.
Great video, I am amazed at how many other trades think kitchen fitters are second class tradespeople. As you have shown layout is extremely important, out of plumb walls, incorrect plumbing or electrical layout and the whole kitchen needs to be reconfigured, and all down to the old wood butcher.

Any tradesman worst nightmare is a client changing their mind after the fact.....You explain the knock on effects nicely and the reasons for precision in measuring from the start..When I do cabinets I consult with clients to the point that they get sick of me and then I make sure they know.....NO MIND CHANGING from then on...

You will have to bring the wall cabinets off the wall or put a filler in if you want to shuffle it down a bit. Make sure you have extra depth on your wall end panels on the sink run.
Absolutely correct👍 especially if a pre-formed corner post is being used like for a J pull type doors, or you have a fold down dishwasher in the corner with larger knobs/handles fitted👊 I checked with the kitchen designer and have actually knocked that 10mm back off the corner post which will bring the wall units back into line with the base units😎Well spotted and thanks for watching🤩Cheers Del

good to see ya back del, ive only fitted one kitchen with plinth skirtings and you are deffo correct they are so time taking. ended up on the one i did fitting them around the rest of the room also. the dishwasher needs extra attention i found as i had to allow a gap for the door to open. so i ended up making a little jig out of some scraps of timber that represented the height of it all at the dishwasher point and made sure everything else would fit (the flooring was howdens click lvt so needed expansion allowance etc) how did you go about attaching the island to the floor? I fitted a kitchen last year with a big island (sure it was something like 2.6m x 1.4m ) i ended up making a frame work out of 3x2 and screwing that to the floor then attaching the cabinets to that class vid as alwasy del and sure itll help others out
Hi Paul🖐You're right about the skirting plinth at the dishwasher👍and I actually detach the top, horizontal section and remount lower down the back of the skirting. This, obviously, keeps the skirting line intact on the front, but then fills the gap that opens up behind it when the door is opened😎I do exactly the same as you for fixing my island, on this one however, because the end panels go all the way to the floor, I will simple bond a batten behind them at floor level. The kitchen supplier actually says they don't normally fix them, but even with heavy stone worktops, you could still budge them if you fell into them🤔Thanks for watching bud 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter thinking back to that job for the dishwasher section... what i was supplied with was a few lengths of extra pelmet to fit to the cabinets to atttach the skirting onto. i had to fit one section under the dishwasher slightly lower than all of the rest to allow the door to swing down as it opened. difficult to describe other than that and i didnt take any photos unfortunately

Question though....so if by doing the corner as youve set out what happens if its not plumb and the top comes in say.....5mm hlw does that effect the corner post if its an already made one? How do you adjust for that? Are you just bringing the base cabinets upto it so its correct? And if so how does that then effect the end cabinet by pushing it across but in doing so pulling the other cabinets away from the wall on the left? Or have i just answered my own question there lol. Most walls are out of plumb unless youve done them yourself. Thanks again for the great instructional videos very helpful.

Great job Del. Same with fitting tall integrated fridges, make sure the power outlet is high up for plugging in or in another cabinet, as there is bugger all room behind on DIY kitchens and they are more generous than Ikea. Have to remove the transport back panels even the thickness of the plug can be enough that the fridge won't fit it, to be honest it's the same for integrated ovens nothing behind if possible same for dishwashers/washing machines have the plugs and water connections in the cabinets to the left or right, that was my experience. I got there in the end.👍😊

I’m on price work and I spend 2 hours after work each day methodically planning each step whilst also thinking about how I’m going to execute tasks etc. do you plan/ think about the job outside of work hours? ,if so do you spend more or less time than 2 hours a night like I do?. Do you recommend someone getting into the Carpentry trade to be financially stable, I Live near London (Heathrow), looking to move into a Trade, Think id enjoy carpentry the most of the 3 trades (Sparky, Plumber, Carpenter). I'm 25 But really looking to just progress in life and not work for someone else and have a comfortable living.
Hi there🖐I have loved every minute if my carpentry career🤩(well, almost every minute😆). As with many of the other building trades, carpenters are becoming fewer and fewer, so it's inevitable that demand for them will only increase which is good for rates of pay👍It's always going to be harder though, getting into in and starting to learn when you're a bit older, as the money is not great to start with😬If you're practically minded, enjoy problem solving and don't mind a bit of dust and poor weather, then its an excellent long term profession😎Cheers Del

I am very hands on as seen on my CZcams and very precise with things like measurements etc so I think these would carry over to carpentry, do you think it’s worth doing a fast track level 1 carpentry course along side my full time job as I do shifts so I can book off like a month from work or do you think it’s worth doing an evening course twice a week for 1 year for level 1 then do the same again for level 2 ? These are part time courses for people in employment currently
@@Richieesgarage If you're quite practical and have a 'feel' for carpentry already, then I would choose the course that exposes you to the most aspects of the trade👍It's always going to be tricky for me to give really solid advise around this, as only you know which route will fit best with the job you already have🤔Wish you the best of luck👍
Been there as they say over many years. …As a favour to the wife her sister had bought a larder unit about 6 years ago her son tried to put it together made a right mess of all the fixings broke them all. So like you do you are volunteered by your wife to fix it. One larder unit how hard can it be? What a nightmare put the larder unit together after buying special brackets. Now for the two doors went to buy them. Only to find they stopped making them 4 years ago. It was cheaper to scrap the larder unit after spending two days or more on it. Bought a new larder unit with doors to match it was cheaper in the long run. I fitted loads of kitchens / wardrobes etc in the past. One of those 10 minute jobs

Same with fitting tall integrated fridges, make sure the power outlet is high up for plugging in or in another cabinet, as there is bugger all room behind on DIY kitchens and they are more generous than Ikea.
Have to remove the transport back panels even the thickness of the plug can be enough that the fridge won't fit it, to be honest it's the same for integrated ovens nothing behind if possible same for dishwashers/washing machines have the plugs and water connections in the cabinets to the left or right, that was my experience. I got there in the end.👍😊

I’m on price work and I spend 2 hours after work each day methodically planning each step whilst also thinking about how I’m going to execute tasks etc. do you plan/ think about the job outside of work hours? ,if so do you spend more or less time than 2 hours a night like I do?. Or do you switch off when you get home from work?

Do you recommend someone getting into the Carpentry trade to be financially stable, I Live near London (Heathrow), looking to move into a Trade, Think id enjoy carpentry the most of the 3 trades (Sparky, Plumber, Carpenter). I'm 25 But really looking to just progress in life and not work for someone else and have a comfortable living.
Hi there🖐I have loved every minute if my carpentry career🤩(well, almost every minute😆). As with many of the other building trades, carpenters are becoming fewer and fewer, so it's inevitable that demand for them will only increase which is good for rates of pay👍It's always going to be harder though, getting into in and starting to learn when you're a bit older, as the money is not great to start with😬If you're practically minded, enjoy problem solving and don't mind a bit of dust and poor weather, then its an excellent long term profession😎Cheers Del

I am very hands on as seen on my CZcams and very precise with things like measurements etc so I think these would carry over to carpentry, do you think it’s worth doing a fast track level 1 carpentry course along side my full time job as I do shifts so I can book off like a month from work or do you think it’s worth doing an evening course twice a week for 1 year for level 1 then do the same again for level 2 ? These are part time courses for people in employment currently
@@Richieesgarage If you're quite practical and have a 'feel' for carpentry already, then I would choose the course that exposes you to the most aspects of the trade👍It's always going to be tricky for me to give really solid advise around this, as only you know which route will fit best with the job you already have🤔Wish you the best of luck👍

Been there as they say over many years. …As a favour to the wife her sister had bought a larder unit about 6 years ago her son tried to put it together made a right mess of all the fixings broke them all. So like you do you are volunteered by your wife to fix it. One larder unit how hard can it be? What a nightmare put the larder unit together after buying special brackets. Now for the two doors went to buy them. Only to find they stopped making them 4 years ago. It was cheaper to scrap the larder unit after spending two days or more on it. Bought a new larder unit with doors to match it was cheaper in the long run. I fitted loads of kitchens / wardrobes etc in the past. One of those 10 minute jobs
