Owned FD2 as well. Would have only have officially been sold in Japan, like dc5, but was also sold in Malaysia after Honda owners campaigned for it. Usual mod is to have Koni rear dampers, also had this mod, put them on softest setting for normal roads. Stiffen them up for track work.
Its amazing how the 8th gen type r interior is like identical to the Si except the badging and seat colors, gauge is grey and red instead of black and red
For sure the 8th gen Si its the only one that is not so far from Type-R in many points. Its why the 8th Si have huge fans compared to others Si models.
The JDM dc5 is 1170kg for the pre facelift base model 1180kg for the c package 1190kg for the facelift model Dc5. The FD2 is 1260kg-1270kg depending on spec with all fluids and a full tank of gas.
I have the CSX (here in North America), and put it on D1 Spec coilovers, Advan wheels, Skunk2 exhaust, K&N intake, whole car is wrapped in Gloss Black Rose. Owned it for 5 years now and it's been a great daily. Wish we had the real type R here in North America tho! Amazing review!

Yup identical from my understanding and articles I read. It's just re-branded because for some reason North America prefers "Acura" and other Japanese luxury brands over the original Hondas, Nissan and Toyotas... It would be a little under 200. It's by no means fast haha. But it is fun to drive and I really enjoy the handling after my mods and I like the look and it sounds better now as well.

Love all these hondas i got to drive my friends new civic type r turbo today and in no way would i rush out and buy one give me the fun dc2 fd2 ep3 dc5 anyday and your absolutely right the little things like momo steering and recaro seats were what youd expect the type r brand to come with

Info : other than Japan, there is another country where the FD2 Type R is an official import i.e distributed by the country's official Honda dealerships, that is Malaysia.
Here in greece we only see vags and bmw's . It's a shame really. Hope when I grow up(2 years left) to get a honda civic vti and later an integra type R but this car was always my dream car!!
FYI. This is the last k20a phase 3 engine, not the cl7 euro r k20a phase 2. Dc5r and ep3 has the phase 1 k20a. And this is not drive by wire, it is running a DBW electric throttle.

Yeah, the FD2R is a factory sports car that is as close as you can get to a modified tuner car. Sub-3000 lbs. curb weight, 11 lbs. lightweight flywheel, LSD, short final drive, 8000rpm redline, double wishbone rear suspension, lightweight pistons & crankshaft, cams, engine porting, 4-2-1 header, bucket seats, spoiler, rear strut bar, and whatever else the engineers put in.
The new FK2 and FK8 are derived from their Castrol Honda WTCC Civics, so you really get a race car or a taste of that through the factory, which makes them very unique and intentionally designed cars.
The FD2 Type R has 225 BHP as standard, but the engine in the Accord Euro R is slightly different, the K20 a in the Accord has a Balance Shaft fitted to reduce Vibration in the Cabin of the car, the Civics engine does not have this, there both fantastic cars, drive safe.
I would love to have the Mugen RR version too. But yes, EK9's are wonderful. My second car review was an EK9 RX and I really enjoyed driving it. Have you done anything to yours or are you keeping it standard?

Alex Jai I've owned both. Speed wise the FD feels like it has more grunt and its handling is similar to the DC5 once it's had the FRSU done to it. I feel the seating position in the DC5 was better as I felt lower but other than that the FD is brilliant
Stock FD2R weight is 1270 kg and DC5 is 1180 kg according to Best Motoring data. Interesting that FD2 actually weighs less :) (Even with aftermarket exhaust losing 50 kg is impossible)
Hey PrzemoV6, don't forget that Best Motoring is simply taking their data from manufacturers whereas I actually weigh the car there and then. After weighing all the cars I review, it seems that the numbers are always different to what manufacturers state.
I wish we got it over here as standard, style wise it beats the FN2 hands down imo. Currently a EP2 Civic done a few bits mugen spoiler, spoon system etc all reps ofcourse haha. Im saving for a DC5 though :)
can you find a ep3 or fn2 in canada ? i did some research for s2000 and i found them in many auto TRADER but i can find ep3 or fn2 or dc5? they sell only the 9 gen sivic si and i dont like them at all
SilentWraith261 you’d have to wait until 2033 to do it honestly the FA/FG Si close is not too far off from the CTR’s performance you can swap the Final Drive ratios of the FD2 CTR into the USDM Si’s and have a solid aftermarket suspension setup

funny when i had my ep3 i was pulling rolling 360s on the street going to work..but the chassis is nothing compared to fg2/fd2 they are the best chassis they ever did...my fg2 reached 216kmh on ice no studs
Just turn the direction you want to face, put in some power, let off the power and yank the e brake while counter steering. Then get pulled over by a cop for reckless driving XD.
jack kim This is definitley a better car then the UK ep3 without doubt. The FD2 will be slightly quicker But if your looking for a noticeable difference between the two you will be disappointed. The FK2 will drop price soon as honda are releasing another type r to much their next gen civic next year
How did the emissions regulation stop the k20? In the states, the Civic Si had it from 2006-11(197hp), 2012-16 it's was replaced with the k24(205hp) for more low end torque and now it's sadly the 1.5 earth dreams non-vtec turbo. Luckily Honda stretched the wheel base of the Euro civic type R, brought it over with the k20 Vtec Turbo!

jack kim This is definitley a better car then the UK ep3 without doubt. The FD2 will be slightly quicker But if your looking for a noticeable difference between the two you will be disappointed. The FK2 will drop price soon as honda are releasing another type r to much their next gen civic next year

How did the emissions regulation stop the k20? In the states, the Civic Si had it from 2006-11(197hp), 2012-16 it's was replaced with the k24(205hp) for more low end torque and now it's sadly the 1.5 earth dreams non-vtec turbo. Luckily Honda stretched the wheel base of the Euro civic type R, brought it over with the k20 Vtec Turbo!
