    Two things:
    1. Someone on the staff really loved The Dark Crystal as a kid, and the whole rock-breaking contest is an homage to the Skeksis Trial by Stone that they felt like they just had to shoe-horn in here.
    2. The thing in the chest is Marsellus Wallace's soul, obviously. This is the writer's nod to Harvey Weinstein's threat to Peter Jackson to take the trilogy away and give it to Tarantino to make into one two and a half hour movie. Deep cut, very meta.

I liked the Star Wars prequels despite being worse than Star Wars original trilogy. I never understood the hatred for them. I liked Ewan Mc Gregor as young Obi Wan, Nathalie Portman as Padme, Jake Lloyd as child Anakin Skywalker and Hayden Christensen as late teenage/young adult Anakin Skywalker, Samuel Jackson as Master Windu, Christopher Lee as Count Doku, Ian Mc Diarmid as Palpatine, Liam Neeson as Qui Gon Jinn. I loved the pod race and many other things. Of course some dialogues could have been better and maybe Anakin Skywalkers fall to dark side was a bit rushed. But overall it was okay. But as you said Star Wars sequels were bad and an abomination. The same opinion as i have for Star Wars Prequels i have towards "The Hobbit" trilogy. It wasnt as great as Peter Jacksons "Lord of the Ring" adaptation but overall it was okay. Especially Martin Freeman as young Bilbo Baggins who captured a lot features of old Bilbo Baggins played by Ian Holm eg. being annoyed by random guests who want to visit him. The biggest critics for hobbit was to much CGI. The Orcs from Hobbit looked ridculous compared with Urukai from Lord of the Ring. But this show is just modern woke agenda from Hollywood. I ve seen 2 episodes and dont like it though the introduction with the 2 trees was not so bad. In his vision, by season 3, we come to understand the origins of the Ring of Barahir and the rise of two "factions" of Numenor and his whole concept of having the show explore the contrast between the immortality of elves (the line of Elrond) vs. the death and decay of men (line of Elros) is really cool.

Durin being pissy about Elrond not coming to visit for his wedding and kids CAN be kind of justified, by the show's logic. After all, Elrond and Celebrimbor apparently walk from Eregion to Khazad-Dum in an afternoon. No traveling clothes, no food, just wearing long, flowing robes the entire way. So clearly it's right next door. The same as walking down the block to visit your friend. Right?
I'm still baffled that they've essentially written Celeborn out of the story. How can you get rid of him and still have ANY of the events play out the way they did? No Celeborn means Galadriel isn't married to him, which means they don't rule Lothlorien, they don't have Celebrian, which means she doesn't marry Elrond, meaning Elrohir, Elladan, and Arwen aren't born, and Arwen doesn't fall in love with Aragorn.

Orcs coming out of the ground, humans calling elves "knife-ears", elevators in dwarven cities... This is looking more like a Dragon Age story than Tolkien. Even that orc looks more like a darkspawn than an orc.
You can clearly see that the writers have no respect for the lore or for the fantasy genre whatsoever. For them all fantasy is interchangeable. It doesn't matter if you telling a story in Middle Earth, the Sword Coast or Eberon. They put it all in the same pot. They are incapable of understanding that Tolkien's world is very different and has a certain tone to it that makes it unique despite having thousands of copies. And each copy brings something different and a lot of them become unique in their own way. If you can't understand those subtle differences, you have no place in writing fantasy. And if you can't translate the tone of the original work into your work, you have no place in adapting any work of art to another medium or creating anything derivated from it.
There are a lot of problems in Jackson's adaptation, but at least it felt familiar. I felt that was the same world I read on the books, even though there are times that I was like: "this isn't how I read it". I believe that the key to success of Jackson's trilogy was the production methodology. They created a demo movie before even getting the money. So it had to be good enough at the very beginning to involve the investors. Jackson's crew even payed to some random New Zealand actors to record all the lines. So all of the scenes were already there - drawings with dialogues. And as when you make music, every next iteration of the demo material is getting more and more polished and as a result you have a solid composition consisting of well crafted layers. It's antirandom in it's appearance. That's why it's a masterpiece as well as the original books (still not that deep though). But the Rings of Power creators didn't even tell the actors which characters they were going to play before they came to New Zealand! They just through the money in and make a request - "I want it to be a hit!" This is an example of the most awful and soulless ways to set up things in art. This is why this show is such a piece of snake's shit. Let's not watch it, people, please. Ignore it. Let it eat itself

My glory shall come from superhuman powers and always being right." It was so brave. Not 100% sure if they included it in the release (due to the boycott), but I've learned from the Amazonians that we can just make up any junk, steal ideas while calling it inspiration, and tell a story as long as it suits a relativistic, post-modern agenda of opposing what we consider traditional values.

But she doesn’t have to carry a pickax or be breaking rocks to do her part in their society. She uses her gifts to help her tribe because she’s an actual strong woman Who loves her family and is not selfish.
Galadriel on the other hand is basically a discount version man who is smaller and weaker and still tries to physically fight when she was one of the most powerful magical beings in all the realms…. that’s not a strong woman that’s a weak ass man with small 💪.

Warrior Galadriel is super not believable because she’s 130 pounds shopping Keith trolls and a half well it slaughtered all her other elf warriors… it’s absolutely ridiculous. You don’t have to physically fight or be a b rated man to be a strong woman.

This is so strange. The way you describe Elrond's meeting with Celebrimbor, with o mention of Feanor or the Silmarils (by name at least, from what I'm hearing), and only a passing reference to Morgoth - as if the events of the Legendarium didn't basically happen on account of the actions and conflict between Feanor and Morgoth - seems to indicate to me that Amazon really did have us hard core fans in mind for this show as we are already very familiar with the Silmarillion and we know how Celebrimbor and Elrond came to be here.
And that's very odd. Because if anyone at Amazon has been paying attention to Tolkien's fandom since, like, the 1980's at least, they'd know not to expect that level of success with us. Decades of subjection to crappy adaptations (at best) before PJ's LotR (which I could pick apart, but don't) has made us an insufferably tough crowd with a reputation for being impossible to please.
The only good thing I can say about this series is that now the world knows why we're so intolerant of lore changes. Because once you allow even just one change, these people see it as you giving them permission to change all of it so as to be virtually unrecognizable.
They can call us "ists" and "phobes" all they want, at Tolkien's Legendarium is where our sufferance stops. Always has been, always will be. No amount of burying their heads in the sand will save Amazon from complete and total humiliation, and this series will go down in history as one of media's biggest trainwrecks.

Well duh, there are no dragons, dwarves and elves in our modern world either, that doesn't mean that the Legendarium doesn't have value, as is evidenced by the sheer magnitude of us fans.
I mean space travel to other star systems and alien species also does not reflect out modern world, but hey, I'm not about to use that to say we that we shouldn't have sci-fi. You know?
Tolkien wrote an origin story for England, which up until that point utterly lacked one due to the Norman Invasion which completely oppressed the previous Celtic/Saxon culture each of which had their own origin myths and at least to a degree blended together. Because I read Tolkien's works as a child, I went on to educate myself on Celtic and Germanic lore, fae lore, etc., and I filled up multiple bookshelves with historic/anthropological/archeological works and fairy tales. I'm talking about northwestern and central Europe as being a place where epics happened irl and in legends.
Diversity, as we think of it today, was not needed to make this area and time in history complete. If you think it does, then by all means stick to terrible adaptations that are completely and utterly devoid of soul and Tolkien's underlying messages (which unless you've read his work, I guarantee you do not know). Stick with your video games. Thats obviously where your heart lies and *we respect that.* Mine, and a lot of other peoples' hearts lie with histories, myths and Tolkien's Legendarium, and for the love of all that is holy *that deserves respect.*

It's a trivial detail, true, but for such an expensive production, a little CGI work in post would have fixed this easily. Secondly, he's looking _at_ the flame. I'm sure it's fascinating, but he won't be able to see anything else, which is the sole point of carrying a torch. Thirdly, composition. Following all the lines and boundaries between dark and light, what is the viewer's eye drawn to? The campfire in the background. I doubt very much that this is the most important element of the scene.

A common example is any scifi movie involving a spacesuit, they ALWAYS have lights inside the helmet shining on the character's face, which would obviously blind them. Dwarf Kazad Dum looks more like Dwarf underground from Dragon Age Origin... which, in retrospect, might have been the better franchise to buy and riff off for a tv series that would compete with GoT.

The one thing I cannot get past here is Durin has a father.
"The world was young, the mountains green
No stain yet on the Moon was seen
No words were laid on stream or stone
When Durin woke and walked alone
He named the nameless hills and dells
He drank from yet untasted wells
He stooped and looked in Mirrormere
And saw a crown of stars appear"

This isn't the Durin of the poems that was the original Durin that eventually created and settled the city in the first age, a VERY long time before this Durin in the show. Not even close to the same person. The original Durin was created so he didn't have a father. You are greatly mixing up characters just because they have the same name. This show is in the 2nd age.

the actress that plays the queen is actually a good cast and you can clearly see she takes it more serious than her coworkers. i was wrong about her casting and ill admit that.

She's not the queen yet. When Prince Durin becomes king after the death of Durin III, then she will be queen.

Isn't that funny? That all the "racist" fans would find the BLACK female dwarf to be one of the BEST characters in the series so far? 🤷‍♂️
Sophia Nomvete is still an awful human being, though. In a sane world, her off-set interviews and verbal ejaculations should see her barred from decent society.

@@valaraukar_595 From what I've seen, the interviews were repetitively focused on her, and how important it was that she had been cast for the role as the first ever female dwarf. She barely mentioned the character at all, let alone how she had played the role, any anecdotes from the filming, etc. that could have drawn an audience into the story.
Which is a shame, as her scenes were some of most engaging so far, perhaps because they are standard domestic friction and familiar territory for the writers.

“Let me risk a little more light. Behold... the great realm and Dwarf-city of Dwarrowdelf!” I swear, when I saw that shot in “The Fellowship of the Ring” I burst into tears. Over a shot of a dimly lit half-miniature and half-CGI hall. Can you top that, Amazon? Yeah, I thought so…

Yeah I'm not feeling any emotions from this show. Shit in the Fellowship I felt joy, fear, and mystery in the first half hour. I get nothing from this show yet. Something is seriously missing. The music is meh, some of the scenes are cool. The dialog is pretty bad. When Nori and her friend are talking, the one friend says. Okay. Okay? I know its a hard word for modern english speakers to not say, you couldn't do a retake and have her say something else? Are they gonna start throwing in cool and awesome to really throw me out of the middle earth mood. really hope this improves but I'm not holding my breath.

I reckon it’s gonna be Mithril in the box. They should have found it by now but the show is playing pretty hard and fast with the timeline so I reckon it’ll be Mithril
