I got that exact noise only when I been driving it for about 2 hours as I'm a delivery driver I really need my car. I been told so much things but I know its this as its really hard to turn the wheel off the ground Thanks for this video 👍👍👍👍👍
I'd start out by simply removing the slider bolts, cleaning then with a wire brush and lube them, then reinstall. While your there, inspect the soft part of the brake line going to the caliper for stretching cracks or other damage. Tip for this, have a person press on&off the brakes with car running but stationary in park/ neutral, while looking at the soft lines for expansion. If they expand, get new ones. Problem still there? Throw a set of new rotors, and pads. If you have done that already, the problem you have is in your calipers. At that point you have 2 options, rebuild your calipers, its really super simple, or buy new calipers. By this process you've started from the cheapest possible solution to the more expensive.
@@sosouth8209 The absolute best option is anti-seize lithi-poly grease. Go to your local auto store and ask for a small packet of anti-seize, cost about 1 dollar. It's enough to do all 4 brakes.
And if it's still making the noise after new pads rotors and caliper what would you do? Change the wheel bearing? I highly doubt it's my brake pad hardware clips or my dust shield.
@@doors1708 It very well could be the hardware itself is faulty. It would at that point I drive 10 miles. Come back to the shop and inspect for wear. The wear marks will indicate the problem. I've had dozens of cars have faulty brake hardware that didn't fit correctly for many different reasons. It was the main reason I stopped purchasing parts from 2 certain manufacturers here in the states. Not all parts are created equal.
@@doors1708 But as for this video, I 100% guarantee it's either the caliper slides or the caliper piston is hung up. And if you install new calipers, bleed them double what you think they need. And lube the slides. Every shop I've been to, I was the only guy there greasing slides. I was also the only tech that never had returns. If you look at the rotor, it's developed a glazed line in the middle. That's from contact. That's cause the caliper won't open all the way. 2 main things cause that: Slide pin friction Caliper piston friction.
I have a very similar sound and believe it’s the calipers because the wheels don’t feel as easy to rotate when they are jacked up, so seems I have to replace the calipers
Take the rotors off and clean the rust and grime off the surface of the hub where the rotor sits on so you can make sure the rotors sit on the hubs as even as possible, then put two lug nuts on opposite from each other to hold the rotor onto the hub so you can make sure the rotor sits where it is supposed to.... Then put the car in drive again and check if your noise is still there.......
That’s just your discs with an out of spec runout... best way to check for a stuck calliper is turn the wheel and feel for resistance or strip down and see if the piston moves freely
When I lift my tires off the ground and try to hear for the noise it goes away so I drop the truck back down and drive it and can hear this exact noise. The problem is a combination of brake pads ,rotors and in some cases a stuck or bad caliper (some cars and trucks also vary bearings in the rotors that will go bad also not helping the situation) My truck is a 98 Chevy s10 hopefully this helps a good brake job and you should be good
Crazy. I'm going through the same situation now. I jacked upped my car from the rear end, put the car in 1st gear & hear nothing. As soon as I start driving it makes this scraping noise. Shit is unbelievable.
i just did my first rotor and pad replacement, mine wasnt quite so metallic sounding as this video, lots of scaling on the rotor it just makes me feel better having new ones on. wish it had been the rear brakes it wouldve been cheaper. rented a torque wrench so massive it couldnt fit in the wheel well.
@François Granger quick googling says that it is supposed to be a preventive measure: there is a possibility that you will damage the master cylinder when pressing the brake piston. and you need to open the valve once in a while so that it won't stuck.
Lots of good suggestions for possible noise in the comments but the initial setup is flawed, you need to throw on a couple lug nuts to hold the rotor to the hub evenly first
So this is indicating that if the noise is constant it would be a rotor stuck to the caliper but if it goes in and out would it just be a brake pad problem?
Today I had all for tires replaced had this same sound after driving home realize there was two lug nuts complete loose and a few that needed more tightness after proper tightening went for a ride and sound was completely gone!
