  • The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been in regular production since 1979. It's changed a lot since then, evolving from a utilitarian off-roader to a desirable luxury icon, but it's never seen a change quite like this.
    Meet the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology. That's a long and mild name for a pretty radical reinvention of the classic G. This is the first battery-powered G-Wagen, driven by a whopping four electric motors that draw juice from a 116-kilowatt-hour battery pack.
    Those four motors enable the electric G to do some amazing things, like a so-called G-Turn, where it spins in place. The idea is to help this big rig get out of some tight off-road situations, but we think it'll be even more effective at impressing your neighbors.

      Maybe in 10 years it'll be a decent product with known resale values but not now...

      You're right. I brought my EQC in for service, and talked to my sales rep there, and he said that what he looked forward to the most was this one, he already had customers lined up to buy it... Oh, I'm also Norwegian if that wasn't already obvious...

      How could you misspell “Mercedes” when it’s right there in the title?

    The wading depth is higher than the top of the wheel well! Why go to the detail of quoting it in mm and then showing it incorrectly!?

      You don't ask a price when it comes to G-Wagons.. you ask for more options..

    What happened to the Triple Lockers that the G-Wagon was highly known for?!? A virtual locker is never as good as a mechanical locker!

      If there is an electric motor in each wheel, that means that there are no diffs.

      excuse to charge more... lots more overall pollution. AND it takes energy to make money so....

    • @christill
      @christill Před měsícem

      @@stachowi I mean yes, EVs are obviously still massively overpriced considering how much battery prices have fallen. But my main complaint is that it’s not thinking differently. It’s doing the same inefficient thing in a less bad way. And especially with a car like this with its boxy design.
      We should be just living more locally and using public transport when going further afield. But governments haven’t invested in that and now we’re a up the creek without a paddle as a civilisation.

    • @stachowi
      @stachowi Před měsícem

      @@christill i think standardizing battery packs and making them replaceable would change a lot. Charging is a deal breaker for me. Just bought a hybrid and i love it.

    • @christill
      @christill Před měsícem

      @@stachowi I think you’ve got the wrong idea about EVs to be honest. You seem to be in a kind of 2010 mindset for where the technology is, when it’s advanced almost beyond recognition in the last 14 years. I would say there are things to change, and I’m not really a fan of privately owned cars in general anymore. But for those whole absolutely need to own a car, EVs now can cover anyone’s needs with the range and charging speed now offered. Hybrids are totally irrelevant at this point to be honest.
