    Such a good teacher! I always know if Keith does it, it's well thought out. I'm retired but still tinker in my shop and it's surprising how many of your tasks can be applied to other projects. Thanks, Bravo for the opening pledge!

    My dad was a machinist at american shipbuilding in buffalo. They closed in 63 . He opened his own machine shop and remember watching him pour Babbitt bearings in the 70s. Remember him calling the Babbitt high speed marine Babbitt. Your video brough back tons of memories. Thank you. MAGA.

    Since you have a programmable oven, could you use it to control the cooling after the pour? Would that help with the differential cooling between the housing and the babbit and reduce shrinkage issues? My hunch (based on not very much) is that it might help but not be worth the extra hours involved.

      Great question, but no need because they were so close to the same temperature at pour time in seconds they matched at contact surfaces.

    Thanks Keith. If I recall an earlier video where you tinned the housing before pouring and in this case not? Why different? Question not critique!

    • @KeithFenner
      @KeithFenner  Před měsícem +1

      This was the bearing set I did before the tinning set. They didn't need to be tinned.

      @@KeithFenner Ha Ha. If I recall the tinning job I was referring to was a job from a long time ago. Perhaps in your old shop. I didn't realize there was a current one in the works. THANKS

    Is this a new babbitt job?
    Or is it related to the videos from 3-months ago where ya had some pour failures?

    been a folle=were for years .isn't this the biggest Babbitt pour you've ever done?

    • @KeithFenner

      At my job shop, this was the biggest. At the ship yard days, we also helped local companies that had real large rock crushers, and the pivot jaw had to be repoured every four to five years. It was about 18" bore and five foot long. We had to move the HBM outside because a Craine had to set the jaw on the table.
