It's really hard to pick between this one and Casino Royale. Skyfall was more of an instant wow, especially because of the A+ cinematography, but Casino Royale is just one of those movies that's not only an amazing reboot, but also just gets better the more times you watch it or think about it.
Loved them both, but for ME, Craig's _Casino Royale_ is the best Bond movie of them all. Shocking. I love the Dalton-esque ruthlessness of Craig's Bond mixed with a human idea that he is actually a person with a history, some of which you get to see in _Skyfall_
@@flemit35 I think he cares a bit, this James Bond is not as cold as he was at the beginning of Casino Royale...he is still pretty cold, though, he probably forgot about the girl 5 minutes after the scene.
Lots of people complain about the home alone scenes, but the whole movie centers around whether the old ways work in the modern age. Bond is a field agent, his ability is questioned by the likes of Q and Silva who regard him as ineffective. It's not just that Bond is old by any means, but the way he operates brings more liability than effectiveness. So Bond tries to be modern, and the team tries to best Silva in technology and hacking, and they all fail. Then Bond takes the fight back to the stone age to prove that the old dogs have new tricks. I also like the attention to detail in some of the backstories, like Silva's cultural background being Portuguese makes it easier for him to blend into Macau a former Portuguese colony, and then potentially building his HK connections from there. And then him being captured after the handover of 97 is also a nice touch.
Skyfall is definitely my favorite Bond film. I do love Casino Royale, and it gets props for being the first movie to awaken any interest in the Bond franchise on my part, but Skyfall was the Bond film that made me a true fan. It's not just my favorite film in the franchise, but one of my favorite films of all time.
The “waist of good scotch” line was only meant to throw off the bodyguards for a split second so Bond could quickly kill them. It was really a smart move.
Can you explain to me the timing of events in that scene? She dies while the military are waiting to ambush? Even debating Bond's role in this scene, the fact that Bond is never alone against Silva and his goons raises all kinds of logic and ethical issues.
james reaction to the girl getting shot seems cold blooded but he was only doing it not to give Raul what he wanted. James missed on purpose shows he did not want her to die but may have not realized Raul was going to shoot next. and james immediately shoots all them down right after so you know he was pissed.
Daniel Craig's version of bond is usually cold blooded in everything he does, it what makes him calm and collected in every scenario. Just look at all the car chases and everytime he makes a kill in every one of his movies, he shows 0 emotion. Bit weird to get annoyed at one instance of bond showing himself being cold blooded lol
It would have been the greatest cameo ever if Sean connery had chosen the play the grounds keeper at sky fall. The audience would have erupted when he came on screen!
@@chrithwaddle The Daniel Craig era is a completely separate universe to the Connery-Brosnan universe. So in this universe Connery was never bond and it always has been Craig.
@@pianoif Yes, it's a reboot, there wasn't a official Casino Royale until 2006. Another Example are Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, they appeared in Avengers Age of Ultron but were originally from X-Men Universe and Magneto's Kids and in the Movies Days of Future Past and Apocalypse there was another Quicksilver because Disney/Marvel and Fox still were independent.
I never got the hate for Quantum. The bad guys plan was kinda dumb, but it was a very enjoyable movie for me. Lotta good action. Spectre is the one I dislike.
I don't even particularly like Bond movies and yet I have watched every video on this channel on James Bond revisited and am always eagerly awaiting for new one.
“This is why we go to the f’n movies!!” is how I feel about Skyfall every single time I watch it!! The love that I have for this movie warms my own heart!! 11/10!!
Man, I've always hated everything about this movie. The worst offense for me was removing the mystery about the origins of Bond. Another one was claiming that 'gadgets ain't cool anymore'. Nonsense! (I've also found it very hard to accept that everyone is so positive about this one, but I guess they have different priorities than I have)
@@randomhuman97 The biggest delusion ever perpetuated is that movies that are fully realistic cannot be engaging. So a serious Bond movie should be shooting for that basically. Yes even the "realistic" Bond films are not realistic enough and need to go further but those are still better than the ones that more overtly go balls to the walls while still hoping to be treated seriously.
@@neo-filthyfrank1347 There's hardly anything realistic about the Avengers, but people still enjoy it. Grossed billions. James Bond was always a sort of super hero character, it was always a fantasy for both men and women (the gadgets were part of the brand) and us the audience knowing very well, to suspend belief -- it was part of the charm. If you ask me, the removal of the gadgets was partly due to the lack of imagination in today's film making, the new people behind the franchise just couldn't pull it off. So bond had to become a generic Jason Bourne rip-off. I still watch them though, as I'm a movie fan and they are enjoyable on their own, as "generic spy thrillers".
@@Morgue12free Popular does not equal good and if you think it does you fundamentally have no knowledge of what makes films good. Do you know what "superhero" character and "fantasy" means? It means "one dimensional uninteresting" character and "poor writing and a plot that makes no sense". What you're effectively asking for is for thoughtless, unintelligent movies that still want everyone to take them seriously and never offer anything beyond a six year old's mental faculites.

@@RGK93 I think it works better for the Joker's character in The Dark Night. We're always wondering how the chaos he sews always seems to work itself out so well and it fits with the mystery of the character. I think they were trying to go for a similar vibe with Silva but it doesn't work as well because he seems a bit too methodical for it to be chalked up to random chaos like it does for the Joker. Also, Batman is like the personification of virtue and order which is in direct contrast to the Joker. Silva seems to be like a weird "what if Bond were a villain" and I think it weakens that tension between the hero and villain. He's still a great villain though thanks in large part to Javier Bardem's performance.
@@neo-filthyfrank1347 but the other Bond films didn't take themselves so seriously, Skyfall is dark and gritty, like when Bond gets the girl killed because he went there on the bad guys boat, instead of tracking it and sneaking onto the island.
To be quite honest, the plot is ridiculous. “Let’s go to a desert place, in the middle of nowhere, to a completely exposed house, that can be attacked by a chopper and bombed in seconds.”. Looks like a cartoon plot.
The plot is one of the silliest in the franchise... all the crazy over complicated complots from Raoul Silva to kill M when he could have her killed multiple times in a less fancy way. Casino Royale is far better
I loved Spectre, I mean it's no Quantum, but it's true Skyfall really took the expectations for the Bond franchise to the stratosphere and boy that theme song, I'm no Adele fan at all, but it gives me goosebumps listening to it just sublime.
Even if one adjusts for inflation, in 1965, "Thunderball" was released when there were far fewer movie theaters. Although, back then, movie theaters did run "Thunderball" and even it's predecessor, "Goldfinger," literally 24 hours a day. Thus, it's hard to truly compare which Bond film, "Thunderball" or "Skyfall" is the all-time Bond champion.
"Is Spectre as bad as you remember it?" That's the problem, its so boring that i barely remember it. And as far as Skyfall goes, its really good movie, Casino Royale is better Bond movie in my opinion.
Spectre was an absolute fiasco of a Bond movie... Cristoph Waltz was completely misused (or maybe actually miscast) and Bond ended the movie as a boring dad/husband-like character. Easily one of the worst Bond's of all time... From the highs to the lows indeed.
I never made that Albert Finney Sean Connery connection; had Connery made a cameo appearance this would have easily been the greatest Bond film of all time and may have even won best picture Oscar.
This movie will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the last movie I watched before I officially became a mum. No more spur of the moment cinema trips for me after that! 😂😂 but I created even better memories once I had her 😊
Great movie. the hearing scene with bond running to the capital building gives me chills every time. the tension and music just made it. very nolan dark knight rises vibe to it.
I think you glossed over the bad parts, he was the most incompetent Bond we've ever seen.. not ducking when he heard M say "take the shot!" not passing spy school, not stopping the night assassination, walking onto the boat of the bad guy which ends up getting the girl killed (he could have just tracked the boat and snuck onto the island). not having any kind of backup plan, re-reinforcements or knowing the guns and groundskeeper would be at his house, and in the end getting M killed.
Thats actually why i fucking love Skyfall and don’t consider that a bad thing. As soon as Bond took M off the grid I bursted into tears, Bond has been so reckless and a pain in the ass for M the entire trilogy, the one time Bond has M’s life in his hands, he is doomed to fail. I knew he had to fail, so that he could grow as a character. M’s dying words are acknowledging that despite Bonds mistakes and unprofessionalism she did right by employing him. I love that Craig’s Bond is flawed in this way.
My dad taught jungle warfare to special forces. He says in real life, most people just get by with luck not skill. Decisions on the field are most effective quick rather than intelligent as time is more important at times. I like this Bond.
I had an idea for a Bond swan song in a Final Bond Movie Ever post-credits scene: The Queen is dead. William is King. The 007 program has been decommissioned by MI-6 after James Bond's "tragic death protecting the Queen". Cut to Craig's roughshod Bond standing in front of a lonely bar/hotel on the African plains, reading over the well-thumbed card with impeccable handwriting; "MI-6 may not need you James, but the world still does" followed by a line of longitude and latitude. When he enters the lobby bar, the camera pans across and we get the first look at the sparsely populated lounge and it's ALL of the previous 007s. Craig nods to the group and says, "Gentlemen...", looks around the room, gestures to the space and says, "Extraordinary". Roger Moore rolls his eyes behind his paper, David Niven sucks his teeth, Pierce Brosnan guffaws behind the bar, George Lazenby leans against the billiards table and says nothing, Timothy Dalton smirks and nods to Sean Connery, who looks over his readers to Craig and says, "Funny you should shay that", smiles for a beat and the screen hard cuts to black.
Skyfall was, in my opinion, the best Bond film of the Daniel Craig era so far. We will wait and see how it ranks overall once No Time To Die is released. Skyfall had great drama, great character moments, and some superb action. There has been no other Bond film I have seen, where you were really invested in not just Bond, but all his supporting cast. Even the visuals on the opening credits was masterful, and heads and shoulders above other Bond intros, and that is saying a lot given that Bond films are known for their creative title sequences. Adele's title song is arguably one of the best Bond songs of the franchise. It ranks up there with Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only" and Duran Duran's "A View To A Kill". Really nothing was lacking in this installment.
Skyfalls cinematography is simply amazing to say the least...some parts I was taken back by how beautiful this movie was shot..that damn academy robbed this man of an award but he doesn't need it...it's probably the most perfect James bond movie made(so far) ...
I'm always amazed that people love this one so much, the moment freaking MI6 top tech guy decides to hook up a laptop of the worlds MOST FEARED hacker, to then have their network compromised is inexcusable to me. The climax at the house also didn't work for me, i haven't seen it since i went to the cinema so maybe i didn't remember this plot point correctly, but i vividly remember being shocked of how bad that laptop moment was. Moneypenny felt forced, didn't like the new Q... yeah this was not the one for me, i'm that weirdo that actually liked quantum of solace more, allthough i haven't seen that one in a while as well.
ya I guess this movie was great if you were high or not paying attention, like falling 300 feet into water would have 100% killed him. most people die jumping off Golden gate and it's only 200' the ones that live are all broken and never walk
Quantum of Solace felt like a direct sequel to Casino Royale, while Skyfall felt like a reboot of the reboot. It took Bond out of the realistic, grounded universe established in the first two films and put him into a Black Knight Rises story with a campy villain, implausible cartoon action sequences and an unnecessary Batman style back story. After QOS we should have got to see Bond at his peak, but we never did. The story just got rebooted again, Bond must struggle to become Bond again , and we never got a satisfying character arc contuining from what came before. We never got to spend a whole film with Bond just being bond and going on missions not related to him. Skyfall was a wrong turn that ruined the whole Craig era. And the plot was utter nonsense.
I like the Quantum the best. The story is just great. Skyfall is boring. It has really primitive revenge plot with garbage screenplay and awful character development.
Dude I totally agree. I will need to watch this again. I thought it was awful at the cinema. But JoBlo is pretty consistent, so maybe I was in a foul mood or something. I am gonna watch it again tonight.
I just watched this a couple of days ago. It's so entertaining and with this viewing I was able to get around the significant plot holes that had bothered me a couple of viewings ago.
I'll be honest I really don't like it, it's too serious and Bond comes off as depressed. I don't want later Roger Moore/Peirce Brosnan silliness, but the lack of charm, adventure and heroism is sorely lacking in the modern films.
Eon did approach Sean Connery to play Kincaide. Connery turned it down because he felt his presence would distract. And I kind of agree, as much as I would have loved to have seen Sean Connery in the role, I think it would have taken me out of the movie because I'd be fangirling over seeing Sean Connery in the role. I know the same thing happened to me when I saw Leonard Nimoy pop up in Star Trek Into Darkness. My brain went "Leonard Nimoy! I love Leonard Nimoy! Prime Spock here! Wait... why is he here?" And I think my brain would have said the same thing if Sean Connery appeared in this movie. I'd be going "Original Bond! Yay!"
Skyfall is my favorite entry. I don't mind that Silva's plot is silly and overly-convoluted and the production feels a bit too Nolan-y as that was unfortunately the era for everyone. Plus Bond and Batman are already very similar but I digress. We get Mendes, Newman, Deakins here and that's awesome for film lovers. I love the cast, the set piece action, and that ending is so damn good. I'm not a big early Craig fan I'm more of a Skyfall and Spectre fan and I'll most likely love No Time To Die. It already feels like we're finally going back to the old formula again and that's very refreshing. You can tell Craig wants to have fun again too.
@Meta Man Great comment! Very well said and spot on. I agree and I appreciate your thoughts here. Perhaps even post it in the main thread to get more eyes on it.
Skyfall has in my opinion the best ending in the entire franchise; we finally hear the classic theme, we are introduced to Moneypenny, a male M, and the classic office...is 1962 again, and the franchise goes full circle back to Dr No.
I've loved this Bond series so much. I'm gutted it's nearly at the end. If you're looking for another series to do, JoBlo, then Friday the 13th would be good as there have been about a million of them including the TV series, lol.
Yes Skyfall is a great Bond-Movie but because of nostalgic reasons I can not put it into my top5 ;-) I didn't know Roger Deakins shot this movie, now wonder it looks so beautiful! 1. Moonraker 2. For Your Eyes Only 3. Octopussy 4. From Russia with Love 5. Casino Royale 6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 7. Skyfall 8. Thunderball 9. The Spy Who Loved Me 10. Live and Let Die 11. Goldfinger 12. Dr. No 13. Goldeneye 14. Licence to Kill 15. The Living Daylights 16. A View to a Kill 17. Diamonds are Forever 18. Quantum of Solace 19. Never Say Never Again 20. You only Live Twice 21. The Man with the Golden Gun 22. Tomorrow Never Dies 23. The World is not Enough 24. Die Another Day
No Time to Die has 30 mins of 15/70mm IMAX shot footage, which should look delicious! Linus Sandgren has a legit shot at dethroning Deakins as Best Bond cinematographer.
Making a bunch of money is one thing, quality is another. For years, Thunderball was the big money maker, but who thinks it was better than Goldfinger or From Russia With Love? The action in Skyfall is basically a series of Bond’s failures. From the very beginning of the film (he doesn’t save the wounded agent) throughout the film (he fails to get the hard drive, he fails to question Patrice, he gets duped by Silva, etc) to the last big fail (set up a trail of cyber bread crumbs to attract Silva, but actually bring the target with him… what could go wrong?) it’s one failure after another. Silva’s plan is ridiculous: get captured (on purpose) to escape, be chased (past a pre-set train disaster), to place M in the open (at a public hearing about a secret service) so he can assassinate her. Why not just blow up her office while she’s actually in it? Casino Royale was the last good Bond film. Quantum could have been good, if it didn’t take 3 viewings to figure out what the hell was going on. Skyfall? One viewing was enough. Blecch.
There is an argument to be made that Silva is the worst villain in Bond history: extremely forced villain monologues, lousy villain motivation, terribly written scheme to kill M that unfortunately derails the whole movie. Pun intended.
I loved the long shot of Silva’s introduction. Masterful. I liked that even more than Scorsese’s long unbroken shot in Goodfellas. Made him immediately come off as creepy and evil. Usually Bond films are like “popcorn movies” for me, but this one had me leaving the theater high on adrenaline like I was at the end of Phantom Menace or A New Hope (can’t beat the Duel of the Fates & Death Star Trench Run).
I prefer this one to Casino Royal because it ticks more of the epic, even over-the-top, boxes that I expect from Bond films. Oh, and I don't understand card games. :)
I agree with this being great. I have this rated slightly above Casino Royale (which I have No Time to Die close behind). Skyfall was all around the best to me. I put it above CR because Daniel was a couple movies in and felt better at bond in this vs CR. Not to mention Everyone else in the cast did amazing in their respective roles.
I remember being dissappointed that the middle part was such a ripoff of the Dark Knight. The MI6 explosion and Silva's plan relying on being caught and having a captive interview
Yes it was very jarring, almost as if they had some sensible Casino Royale-style story and the studio came along and said "Dark Knight is good. Do that." That is why Silva is an odd villain, who seems quite grounded and sympathetic most of the time, but seems to go full Joker-crazy in the middle.
@Meta Man I dunno man. To me it seems like someone tried to capture the magic of Casino Royale and Dark Knight in the same film and failed. Rather than being the thinking man's Bond film, it only works if you don't think about the plot contrivances.
Regarding Thunderball vs. Skyfall in popularity - adjusting for inflation doesn`t take into account that for example the population in the US was 194 million in 1965 and 312 million in 2012. Which means the percentage of the population who saw Thunderball was way higher than Skyfall. Also the worldwide boxoffice for example I doubt Thunderball played in cinemas in the soviet union.
Hang on, you've said M is practically the Bond girl in this movie, as James Bonds mother in a sense, but gave Olga Kurylenko a 5 (if I remember correctly) because you said she wasn't enough of a Bond girl in the traditional sense?? I think that's kinda BS and an insult to Olga Kurylenko's performance and character in general???
Must admit, Sean Connery turning up would have bumped me out the film. Bit like Branson appearing in CR. Well, lot worse actually. Loved seeing Albert Finney. What a coo.
Turns 10 today! I remember seeing it with my older sister and buddy Tom The action is spectacular particularly the final battle with a mansion and a helicopter shootout, the cinematography is dynamite, the locations are breathtaking, (the fight against the neon-lit background in Shanghai gives off an impressive silhouette) and this has Craig soaring as this character we’ve come to know and love blending old and modern aspects Thomas Newman’s score really elevates it too More familiar elements like the gadgets, one-liners finally come back into play as well even Q Again it’s very long like ‘Casino Royale’ but remains a high point in the franchise that the positives outweigh the negatives Who would've thought an indie director like Sam Mendes could do wonders? This is perhaps Craig's finest performance as Bond next to ‘No Time to Die’, he's vulnerable physically and mentally with a sense of realism restored Craig himself didn't like the old way of how Bond originated so they updated to fit the liberality and equality of the current worldview He’s a man embodying stoicism, emotionally detached, mentally and physically resilient while also unbending in the face of evil The flaws are stripped though and laid bare Javier Bardem as Silva is chewing up the scenery and having a ball with this quintessential Bond villain, has that effeminate energy but mirrors 007 lots And he has actual motivation for striking back at M Naomi Harris brings a new refreshing take as Eve Moneypenny preferring the office as opposed to field work after she gets a taste Ralph Fiennes is a nice addition as Mallory and I'm glad they brought in Ben Whishaw as Q Grammy-winner Adele singing the main title song is terrific with some of the finest symbolic visuals in a Bond film making it very ominous It’s really sucks this was Judi Dench's last turn as M but she does an immensely wonderful job being the matriarch making the toughest calls with Bond almost being an adoptive son , even if she sees her operatives as dispensable so that makes her morally ambiguous Plus there’s plenty of foreshadowing at the beginning I never expected a Bond picture to make me cry knowing Dench wouldn’t be coming back And this did a better job celebrating the 50th anniversary doing all these nods for longtime fans without self-parodying itself while still being metaphorical We forget to think on our sins, how safe do we really feel?, how many are still left standing when we feel indispensable?, there’s no shame in admitting we’ve lost a step, how much do we know about fear?, the old ways are still good, the past comes back Mendes did a spectacular job solidifying 007 as the ultimate secret agent of our time no matter how much the world changes One of the best movies of 2012 and one of the great James Bond movies period!
Great Bond movie - maybe slightly on the long side but definitely in my Top 6 007 movies. This one is the reason why Daniel Craig is my 2nd favourite Bond.
Ive once read an article that stated they planned at some point to insert a scene with Sean Connery with Craig as father of James Bond and IIRC the scene even was already filmed but later got scrapped because Bond was always depicted as an orphan.
Yeah, I really did not enjoy this movie when I first saw it and was never able to watch it again. I don't understand why it's so rated. The plot is so badly handled it has no tension or excitement. At least something like day another day was entertaining, this is just bland as hell and makes no sense. But I'm way on the minority on this one.
I will never understand what people see in this movie. If the absolutely idiotic main plot of "bad guy lets himself be captured to then escape and do something he could have done much easier without getting captured first" wasn't enough there is also the home alone remake at the end, the weak main threat, an idiotic Q, no bond girl etc.
I disagree with almost everything here. The villain got caught so he could see m before the court to see if he had any remorse. The home alone remake is good for a personal story, the main threat kills a lot of people and m so he’s not weak and the lack of Bond girl makes it unique. The only one I agree with you on is that q is a idiot
I know you mention this, but the home alone theme in the end and the random master plan bogs this down for me. The final act is laughable because of that home alone stuff. Great direction and cinemetography but there were a lot of luls in this one. Canino Royal is much better in my opinion.
I really enjoy Skyfall , it would be in the top 3 best James Bond Movies of all time so far for me.. A View To A Kill would be in the top 3 and I don't know which would be number one for me. Awesome video! I'm always happy to see anything Jame Bond, and this 2nd look is superb. The intro theme to Skyfall is easily in my top 3 across all the Bond films. Loved them both, but for ME, Craig's _Casino Royale_ is the best Bond movie of them all. Shocking. I love the Dalton-esque ruthlessness of Craig's Bond mixed with a human idea that he is actually a person with a history, some of which you get to see in _Skyfall_

james reaction to the girl getting shot seems cold blooded but he was only doing it not to give Raul what he wanted. James missed on purpose shows he did not want her to die but may have not realized Raul was going to shoot next. and james immediately shoots all them down right after so you know he was pissed.
Yup. Even the subway bomb and the improvised one liner IMO was Silva "one upping" bond and the train crash was pure fluke.
Just a question, how would you make that work cannon wise?

I love these James bond reviews. I actually went back and watch quantum of solace and it wasn't as bad as I remember. Love this narrator too.
I never got the hate for Quantum. The bad guys plan was kinda dumb, but it was a very enjoyable movie for me. Lotta good action. Spectre is the one I dislike.
@@tmclaug90 I was so excited for spectra and after the parade in Mexico city or whatever I knew the movie was not gonna be what I thought.
@@mitchconner1132 yea, that was a really fun scene, but the trailer made the movie seem like it was going to be better than it turned out to be.
I don't even particularly like Bond movies and yet I have watched every video on this channel on James Bond revisited and am always eagerly awaiting for new one.
Great to hear!
Skyfall is my favorite Bond movie. It's more consistent than Casino Royale (gets confusing in the final act)
Nonsense! (I've also found it very hard to accept that everyone is so positive about this one, but I guess they have different priorities than I have)
Gadgets are pretty lame when they get excessive. Realism is always better than brainless fantasy.
@@neo-filthyfrank1347 well, where do you draw the line? How real is real? Even "realistic" action movies aren't real

I did not like it that much.
The evil plan was overly complicated and hoping for many coincidences. Getting yourself captured on purpose to then break out?
Almost all other Bond films are even worse in terms of realism
The Joker does it and no one bats an eye, Silva does it and everyone loses their minds!
@@neo-filthyfrank1347 A rocket launcher plattform in a volcano? I can live with that :)
Putting away the plot - did not like it. Maybe I try a rewatch. I remember many people liking it back in the days, though.
Should have had a Harry and Marv cameo
yes! he didn't even know the guns would be there. no backup plan or re-reinforcements to call in.. and it didn't even work because M was killed.
This is the one I've been waiting for. My favorite 007 film by a mile.
Spectre is an even longer, reheated Skyfall without much to differentiate itself. Ahem, without much of positive note.
Many assumed spectre was Craig's last. That's how forgettable it was.
But NTTD will connect the dots in spectre and make it a better movie I guess
Spectre is a pile of shit. Its worse than i remember it
@@jonbojsenkvrndrup8180 Daniel Craig looks miserable through the whole film
I never made that Albert Finney Sean Connery connection; had Connery made a cameo appearance this would have easily been the greatest Bond film of all time and may have even won best picture Oscar.
Mi favorite "new" Bond movie, I absolutely love everything about it, part of the reason why Spectre disappointed me so much.
Waiting for the next one JoBlo...it's an awesome work that you are doing on these James Bond revisited.
Thanks so much!
I remember this being the first Bond film I saw and absolutely falling in love with the James Bond movies after this.
I genuinely don't understand why Skyfall gets such high praise. I find the film drags throughout its entire runtime and is very boring.
100% agree. Another pretty terrible Craig-era Bond movie. Only "Casino Royale" had something going for it. Everything since has been awful.
I was trying to figure out how Q was a very badass version of Moneypenny 😂
My favorite character in the Bond series has always been Miss Moneypunny..
Skyfalls cinematography is simply amazing to say the least...some parts I was taken back by how beautiful this movie was shot..that damn academy robbed this man of an award but he doesn't need it...it's probably the most perfect James bond movie made(so far) ...
@Meta Man it's so masterfully done you can watch the whole movie with the sound off and still enjoy it
I'm always amazed that people love this one so much, the moment freaking MI6 top tech guy decides to hook up a laptop of the worlds MOST FEARED hacker, to then have their network compromised is inexcusable to me.
He took his boss to the middle of nowhere, without any guns, and got her killed. He should have been on gardening leave or got a written warning.
Such a shame this series is almost over. Really love your work!
Yup, this vid is pretty much my opinion on Skyfall too. Great movie and a terrific way to celebrate the Eon Bond's 50th Anniversary year.
I'll be honest I really don't like it, it's too serious and Bond comes off as depressed. I don't want later Roger Moore/Peirce Brosnan silliness, but the lack of charm, adventure and heroism is sorely lacking in the modern films.
I loved Silva. So menacing. Only person with maybe a more sinister demeanor would probably be Anton Chigurh
I was SO pissed M died at the end but this was by far the best 007 movie we have gotten in years.
Yes Skyfall is a great Bond-Movie but because of nostalgic reasons I can not put it into my top5 ;-)

The Home Alone (or Predator if you will) finale in Last Blood was actually pretty good. The problem was that everything before it pretty much sucked.
After Quantum this was a great movie the death of M was unexpected and heartbreaking and Naomie Harris is gorgeous as Moneypenny
For me, Skyfall is worse than Never Say Never Again
ya he failed at everything in skyfall.. didn't even pass spy school.
No Time to Die has 30 mins of 15/70mm IMAX shot footage, which should look delicious! Linus Sandgren has a legit shot at dethroning Deakins as Best Bond cinematographer.
Just want to say this series has been amazing, keep up the good work.
.i know no one agrees with me but the theme song just never hit me the way ot hits everyone else
It's very generic to me. Like, it's 100% what you would expect a 'bond theme' to sound like, but it doesn't add anything fresh or surprising.
Keep Adele in murica... We don't want her back
Making a bunch of money is one thing, quality is another.
Haha
I saw this on opening weekend and was so thrown when M died. Probably the most impactful death since Tracey in OHMSS.
who the hell is Munny Punny? You Mean 'Money Penny' ? Surely?
Skyfall is the best bond film. The only one I can watch over and over
This narration voice is absolutly awesome
I agree with this being great. I have this rated slightly above Casino Royale (which I have No Time to Die close behind). Skyfall was all around the best to me. I put it above CR because Daniel was a couple movies in and felt better at bond in this vs CR. Not to mention Everyone else in the cast did amazing in their respective roles.
I remember being dissappointed that the middle part was such a ripoff of the Dark Knight. The MI6 explosion and Silva's plan relying on being caught and having a captive interview
Agreed
Yes it was very jarring, almost as if they had some sensible Casino Royale-style story and the studio came along and said "Dark Knight is good. Do that." That is why Silva is an odd villain, who seems quite grounded and sympathetic most of the time, but seems to go full Joker-crazy in the middle.
I mean, him in the cage...come on.
That was the end of the film, was'nt it
@Meta Man I dunno man. To me it seems like someone tried to capture the magic of Casino Royale and Dark Knight in the same film and failed. Rather than being the thinking man's Bond film, it only works if you don't think about the plot contrivances.
I remember I didn't like this one very much at all, strange, must re-watch it and se what I missed.
I didn't realize Roger Deakins was involved with this one, but it makes so much sense. Cinematography God.
The first time 007 actually _gets shot!_ Seriously! After _49 years_ of dodging bullets! 🔫
He gets winged in Thunderball.
What a coo.
I begged you for this. Thank you
if you think of it, Silva accomplished his mission, he got his revenge.
Turns 10 today!
I remember seeing it with my older sister and buddy Tom
The action is spectacular particularly the final battle with a mansion and a helicopter shootout, the cinematography is dynamite, the locations are breathtaking, (the fight against the neon-lit background in Shanghai gives off an impressive silhouette) and this has Craig soaring as this character we’ve come to know and love blending old and modern aspects
Thomas Newman’s score really elevates it too
More familiar elements like the gadgets, one-liners finally come back into play as well even Q
Again it’s very long like ‘Casino Royale’ but remains a high point in the franchise that the positives outweigh the negatives
Who would've thought an indie director like Sam Mendes could do wonders?
This is perhaps Craig's finest performance as Bond next to ‘No Time to Die’, he's vulnerable physically and mentally with a sense of realism restored
Craig himself didn't like the old way of how Bond originated so they updated to fit the liberality and equality of the current worldview
He’s a man embodying stoicism, emotionally detached, mentally and physically resilient while also unbending in the face of evil
The flaws are stripped though and laid bare
Javier Bardem as Silva is chewing up the scenery and having a ball with this quintessential Bond villain, has that effeminate energy but mirrors 007 lots
And he has actual motivation for striking back at M
Naomi Harris brings a new refreshing take as Eve Moneypenny preferring the office as opposed to field work after she gets a taste
Ralph Fiennes is a nice addition as Mallory and I'm glad they brought in Ben Whishaw as Q
Grammy-winner Adele singing the main title song is terrific with some of the finest symbolic visuals in a Bond film making it very ominous
It’s really sucks this was Judi Dench's last turn as M but she does an immensely wonderful job being the matriarch making the toughest calls with Bond almost being an adoptive son , even if she sees her operatives as dispensable so that makes her morally ambiguous
Plus there’s plenty of foreshadowing at the beginning
I never expected a Bond picture to make me cry knowing Dench wouldn’t be coming back
And this did a better job celebrating the 50th anniversary doing all these nods for longtime fans without self-parodying itself while still being metaphorical
We forget to think on our sins, how safe do we really feel?, how many are still left standing when we feel indispensable?, there’s no shame in admitting we’ve lost a step, how much do we know about fear?, the old ways are still good, the past comes back
Mendes did a spectacular job solidifying 007 as the ultimate secret agent of our time no matter how much the world changes
One of the best movies of 2012 and one of the great James Bond movies period!
Home alone revisited
Great Bond movie - maybe slightly on the long side but definitely in my Top 6 007 movies. This one is the reason why Daniel Craig is my 2nd favourite Bond.
I still think Javier Bardem was AMAZING
I don't. A missed opportunity at his demise, with knife in back, his face didn't collapse. Relied too much on Javier, and it does not work.
Ive once read an article that stated they planned at some point to insert a scene with Sean Connery with Craig as father of James Bond and IIRC the scene even was already filmed but later got scrapped because Bond was always depicted as an orphan.
I found this movie boring and silly. I could never get past the stupidity of trying to kill Bond trying to drop a train on him.
@@terryf6696 Exactly, very well put.
Bond let himself get captured too, by going on the boat..
Loved this movie. The villain plan is a little over the top, not quite at Lex's Batman vs Superman level though, it was still fun.
Me and my date fell asleep in the cinema, not even an hour in. For me to many plotholes (Style over substance doesnt work).
I'm with ya
A lot of movies fall into that trap these days and people eat it up... They can't see past the shiny shiny
I always thought it was slightly overrated although enjoyable. Goldfinger is still number one
lmao Goldfinger is possibly the most overrated movie of all time
From Russia with Love (1963) is No.1
I swear, goldfinger is the most overrated thing I’ve ever seen.
I know you mention this, but the home alone theme in the end and the random master plan bogs this down for me. The final act is laughable because of that home alone stuff. Great direction and cinemetography but there were a lot of luls in this one. Canino Royal is much better in my opinion.
ya and it didn't even work, at least in Home Alone the kid won, all Bond did was get M killed.
This was one of my favorite ones , Skyfall and Casino Royalle i think were Daniel Graigs best 007 movies to me
Danial Greggs lmao
I love this series so much I prepare meals to watch every new essay
I really enjoy Skyfall , it would be in the top 3 best James Bond Movies of all time so far for me.. A View To A Kill would be in the top 3 and I don't know which would be number one for me. I can`t do it.
I enjoy Skyfall for me because it hits home to reality to me as a ex-military Veteran where you are " Patriotic " to your home and country but the higher ups SHIT on you and don't appreciate you if you are not a " Brown Noser " or give ridiculous impressive production. They feel a descent paycheck is good enough " Ada Boys " after you give your all. I feel his pain.
Your review was dead on in all departments. Javier Barden does a great job as the Bad Guy,. I feel his pain too. That's what the two of them have in common, how there boss treated them. I love this movies. Good review A+.
Saw this in Imax and the cinematography reminded me of christopher nolan at times in a good way
8:10 I thought Emma was her actual name. At least there was an Emma Pill on the stone wall of deceased agents in the old MI6 building in Specter. I could be wrong
Take a shot every time he says "juggernaut"
I love how you try to set up a defence for Spectre already lol you're going to need to be on your A game to defend that movie! Great video as always though! Would be nice to hear you do another series about how other half a century franchises have aged upon revisiting, like Superman or something
"welcome to Scotland" ... right up there with, "Bond, James Bond."
soon as i saw the new video i was ready to watch and it did not disappoint...
8:00 Yes, he was!
Awesome video! I'm always happy to see anything Jame Bond, and this 2nd look is superb. The intro theme to Skyfall is easily in my top 3 across all the Bond films. Also this Bond film lends to my "head cannon" theory that James Bond is a code name for 007 specifically with the Skyfall estate being an indoctrination facility. Lol. I enjoy it anyway. Thanks again. This was a delight.
I clearly remember hearing "Rumor Has it" by Adele and saying to people, "Man, they should get Adele to do a James Bond theme."
Skyfall is the only Bond movie I've seen more than once at the cinema.
