- From a 1983 live concert in London Billy Joel and Toots Thielemans render a faultless version of the song "Leave a Tender Moment Alone" from Billy's 1983 Innocent Man Album. Enjoy ! Toots is still around and is now 86 years of age, a legend in his own lifetime (as is Billy of course !)
Rip Toots Thielemans...died today at the age of 94...great musician.
Couldn't agree more

Truly amazing and epic all rolled into one...
He's putting his heart and soul into this great!!! Jonchess
Absolutey fantastic
love the song, love the performance, love billy!
This is what you call music 🎶
Super post. Never tire of hearing it through the years, whether on the radio, cd or watching it on the Concert video.Billy Joel and Mr Thielemans knocked this out of the park. I still get goose bumps when I see the hand signal/eye contact, between the two, at song's end. I knew nothing of Toots' musical resume until THIS evening. What a Monster(in the good sense).A contestant from AMER HAS TALENT mentions Larry Adler and I find out he ain't chopped liver either. We've bn blessed with 2 Monsters!
timeless
I always loved this song, perhaps my most favorite Billy Joel song. and it was one of the the biggest inspirations to learn Harmonica
Me too.
Wow... that happened a year before I was born... I'm glad I still have the chance to see it.
So glad you enjoyed this clip, its my favourite too. Billy was at the height of his powers here.
I do wish he would make another pop album though, its 15 years since River of Dreams, but it probably never happen now
thanks again
Stewart
Billy Joel is one of the best composer, singer artists of all time!

My favorite Billy Joel song ever, so heartbreaking...
Billy Joel definetly one of my favorites...
This is a beautiful live version of this song! I have always loved this song!
Me too.
two of my all time favourites together
A great Billy Joel song featuring the late great Toots Thielemans. What a harmonica player and a top drawer musician.Toots was. Just love him to bits. RIP Toots.
Travelling around the south of France in my dad's Vauxhall Cavalier in July 1985 listening to Billy Joel live at Wembley on a cassette is my absolute quintessential childhood memory. Tears to the eyes. Thankyou for posting this. The whole gig captures Billy' voice at it's absolute peak IMHO, just like Sprinsteen' work 1983-89.
Saw this video right around the time "Leave A Tender Moment" was a hit in the summer of 1984 on "Friday Night Videos" and "New York Hot Tracks", the latter a local music video show and when I saw this video I was floored. Billy Joel was always a great musician, but Toots Thielemans added so much to this song. When I saw it again on CZcams a couple of years ago I was again floored. RIP, Toots..
OMG! I saw this when I was a student at the Univ. of South Carolina walking through the Russell House student union in 1985, and I thought this was so beautiful that this inspired me to run out and buy a harmonica the next . I was and still am in awe of this! Thanks to "Toots" and Billy, I've been playing ever since!
4th anniversary of Toots passing today. Honoring him with a listen.
Masterful on every level!
what a beautifull song Billy !!! I coul listen to it a lots ... really I could keep listening all day long...
One of my most favorite songs ever!
Sometimes I think we all forget what and unbelievable Composer/Performer
Billy Joel Is. And he's right about Mr. Thieleman just the Greatest.
Ive always thought this song was good, but This version is Amazing. I'm really impressed.
This, my friends, is how harmonica is played.
What a sweet forgotten gem this is.
that the difference between GOOD music and pop music. the good music isnt always popular for some reason
RIP Toots!😳
Wow!Wow!Wow!Amazing!
I SAW THEM TOGETHER AT MSG JUNE '84 AWESOME! RIP TOOTS!
Incredible!
so so true
RIP Toots Thielemans. He would have been 100 today! 4/29/2022
Billy hit #27 in Billboard, 8-25-84. God bless you, hollpoll, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed week! Shalom, Billy (he's Jewish)!
@Oystercatcher011 It's actually from An Innocent Man - it was the fifth single released - only hit 27 on the US charts (the other singles - Uptown Girl - Tell Her About it - An Innocent man - The Longest Time - Keepin the Faith - all hit the top 20. This Night was the only single not to chart from that album.) Still that boggles the mind - six of the ten singles from Innocent Man hit the charts - can we say Billy Joel was a hit machine?
The Maestro Toots living the music!!!
ch93jones; possibly the best comment I've read on CZcams. You are absolutely right. Gotye has a squillion hits already for ripping off a nursery rhyme. People haven't a clue
Billy hit #27 in Billboard, 8-25-84. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Shalom, Billy!
I will miss this great man!
Fenomenali .... Piano Man il più versatile songwriter di tutti i tempi ... Qui al suo meglio .... Talento infinito in ogni tipo di musica

greetings from Iceland, love this as much as 30 eyars ago:)
let me just say Billy Joel is truly a great singer as well as piano player
me too, its fantastic
This is a prime example of a song with timeless appeal. The songs today ... not so much.
Fabulous concert I first saw on TV. The concert and songs, in my opinion, cemented Billy's stature in the UK. Toots was'nt bad either!! Great memories - thanks for the posting.
Toots became 90 years old last week and is still performing!
I can see his suspenders under his shirt! Miss you Toots!
So true... Amazing song.
spectacular
Superbe tout simplement...
such class...
Billy Joel: An American Treasure.
(a long time ago) I learned to play the harmonica (and forgot all about it since) because of Toots...
@Goldenoldone Well put.
Lovely to see Billy in his prime. One of the few songsters who stuck with his early work and hasn't ever tortured us with his 'new work'. Gotta see him live! (Mr Astley has done OK at it but don't think his back catalogue was as large)? Toots played on Tender Moment, Midnight Cowboy and the Muppets probably three of my favourites and testament that he could make it sound haunting, happy or harmonious. RiP
Ich liebe dieses Lied!
Me encanta esa cancion.
You cant imagine how proud i am to be a Belgian.
They looked so young !! Wonderful posting, thanks !
nice!!
beautiful😂
A real talented great musician...Love you Billy !!
I had the full concert on video too but over time sadly the tape has 'moulded' beyond playback - wish they'd bought it out on DVD!! Anyway it was 1984 but I agree, a fabulous version of the song so thanks for uploading it. I've been looking for this for ages and it's the first time I've actually found it in a search. Amazing. :)
I think I like this version better than the recording!
Best ever!
❤❤
Knew TT from.his work with Quincy, but I enjoy this song from.long ago and never knew who made this whistling
@carsonboy130 - Hi, this song can certainly be classed as a Hit, as it entered the UK Chart on 23 June 1984, as a Double A Side with 'Goodnight Saigon'. The highest position was only No. 29 and it stayed in the chart for just 7 weeks. Info. from "Guiness British Hit Singles" :-) I've not looked at the song listings for Billy Joel hits albums and another respondent says it's on an album 'Essential..."
R.I.P. Toots
I remember recording this concert off Radio 2 onto cassette tape (my how times have changed) and never thought it was commercially available. By the look and sound, I suspect you recorded the simultaneous BBC2 TV transmission.
Never heard a Billy concert bettered since. I remember it included a career topping version of Goodnight Saigon.
Happy Days.
Thanks for posting.
RIP Toot's
Toots!
@ardiesken That's great, I've never heard someone make the harmonica sound so sweet. Yeah the blues guys can wail on them, but no one plays it sweeter than Toots.
see you in heaven toots Rob Harty
