Copper cladding has begun on the Beaver. Copper cladding began in the 1700's to protect the ship. The copper is used to protect the vessel from worms eating the hull's wood.

About the Boston Tea Party Ships:
Three ships from London were moored in the Boston Harbor, and each of the ships carried over 100 chests of tea. On the night of December 16, 1773, "The Sons of Liberty" dumped all the chests into the ocean. This defining historical event, known as the Boston Tea Party, sparked the American Revolution.
The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum is currently overhauling and constructing two period replica ships- The Beaver and Eleanor. Dartmouth, the third ship, will be built from the bottom up. The all-new museum will feature interactive exhibits, reenactments in the Meeting House, a tavern, and tours of the replica ships.
