  • To give you the best chance of achieving an overblow, take off the cover plates and check the blow reed gaps. These are the reeds on the top of the harp. You want to make sure that the reed gaps are very minimal, just so that the reed plays. If the gap is too big it will be very hard to get an overblow. To adjust the reed gap just get a cocktail stick and push it up through the mouth hole and gently push up on the reed to lessen the gap, then check it still plays before putting the covers back on. If you go too far and close up the reed gap altogether, just push the cocktail stick gently down on the reed from the top to open the gap up again. It doesn't matter too much about the draw reed gaps, the ones on the reed plate underneath the harmonica, so don't worry about them. Good luck!

I simply dont hear the overblow when I do it. This concept is very confusing to me but thanks for the tip.

Hi Ed, concentrate on making the sounds first as this will put your mouth and tongue in the correct position for an over blow. It takes time but it will happen.
