    ARE YONBERG harmonicas more difficult too bend notes because of there stainless steel reads { now titanium reeds }. ?

    • @boystone
      @boystone Před 6 dny

      Hi, because steel is harder than bronze or phosphor bronze you do need to be a bit more forceful with your breath when bending notes. Don't let this put you off though as the difference is not that great and the benefit is that stainless steel reeds last longer.

    I've got a Nonslider diminished-tuned, "half" valved, starting on A. Draw-bends are very nice, easily 1/2 step, blow bends are a nice effect to "trail off" a note, a bit hard to get 1/2 step. I love it, it's a solid build, never had to service it (2+ years). I clean the mouth piece once a month maybe. I've probably cleaned the comb once or twice. I probably should clean the valves more often. My only issue with it seems to be that it's harder to avoid spilling air into adjacent holes with all the additional movement required.

    • @boystone
      @boystone Před měsícem

      I agree, you have to make quite a big movement to cleanly play the top row from the bottom and vice versa. Once you've got that it's much less likely to spill air.

    I have the first version of the Forerunner and it's excellent; I like it as much as I like my Chromatix! The reeds are advertised as phosphor-bronze - just like the Suzuki's and the other Easttop harmonicas. If you want something 'zany' - have a look at the 10 hole Easttop chromatic; the lower 8 holes are solo-tuned and the upper 6 holes are richter-tuned so you can have a great deal of fun. People ignore the 10 hole - because they don't realise how much fun it can be - especially for a diatonic player!

    • @boystone
      @boystone Před 2 měsíci

      Yes, I totally agree with you about the forerunner. I have a £460 Seydel Symphony and get as much pleasure from my forerunner at almost a tenth of the price!

      @@boystone It's great. I like to play stuff in the original key so I can play along with the recordings, that's all. I started teaching myself how to play 18 years ago at the age of 56, so obviously I love challenges. I'm sure you know that when you want to play a song you don't know it's easier to do it in a "simpler" key. Keep up the good work!

    As kids we’d play on Wentworth golf course, we saw Forsyth putting on the practice hole, we shouted out a few of his catchphrases and he went ballistic, shouted at us and swore at us, we were 12! Later he was well known at the club by the caddies as someone to avoid caddying for him as he paid the minimum amount for slogging around the west course for five hours at a time. As kids we’d run around the back of the caddy hut to avoid him. Not a nice person tbh

      Hi Ed, concentrate on making the sounds first as this will put your mouth and tongue in the correct position for an over blow. It takes time but it will happen.

  • @GrilloTheFlightless
    @GrilloTheFlightless Před 3 měsíci

    Fantastic! I first heard this song over 40 years ago, listening to my Dad’s record collection. It’s what first made me fall in love with harmonica. But I’ve never been able to play it. I went online and it’s on a lot of harmonica tab websites - all copied from a common source, by the looks of it - and I could straight away tell it was wrong because there weren’t enough notes being shown on each line and there were clearly holes indicated that would give a lower note than the last when it should be higher, and vice versa. It actually opens 5draw, 5blow, draw bend 3 twice, 4 blow, 4draw, 5 blow twice and a three draw bend! All over the place! Now I can learn it properly! Thank you!

    • @boystone

    As a second position blues player for many years now, I've always wanted to play this but it does my freaking head in doing first position playing. I'm so used to footling around with an A harp when the backing is in E but that's what diatonic harps are for. Thank you for this but man it's doing my head in to unlearn what has taken me so long to get right. What's the root note? D?
