    A friend of mine who works in a garage has 2 customers who are taxi drivers. They have two 1.9tdi Octavias with 550,000 and 650,000 miles and still going strong

      A firm favourite with taxi drivers the Octavia. A taxi driver I got talking to said they'd one just clocked 480,000 never laid a spanner on it.

    My Yeti 4x4 TDI Year 2010 170ps has just gone above 472,000. Probs one of the highest milers in the U.K. and still running sweet.

    Our driveway is on a bit of a slope . One very cold and snowy afternoon my wife was coming home from work in our 2.0 4x4 Outdoor Yeti and she phoned me to say she would be home in 5 minutes or so. I jokingly said "No hurry , there's a bloody great Mercedes stuck in front of our driveway he can't go forward nor back, the road is icy, that haven't gritted it yet, he's well buggered". Just as I said that he managed to get away, (With the help of some people to push it that is). Anyway my wife arrived, pointed her car towards the neighbour's house across the road then reversed over where that Merc had been floundering about, straight up onto our snow covered driveway, no problem!

    I travel full-time in my Yeti 2.0 4x4 in Europe, mostly Spain, and spent 3 months travelling all around Morocco, but had to get rescued/pulled out of the Sahara. It also caused the sump guard to rip off and put a major hole in the sump causing all the oil to come out and the need to be towed to a remote mechanics for several days of work. The Yeti isn't a 'real' 4x4, but it performed well on nearly every aspect of Morocco terrain often really rough off-road areas, but the exception was the desert because the vehicle is just too low no matter what else you do to it. Toyota Landcruisers are the king out there. Great adventures though in a great country. I also have the same Front runner gear but I've taken the awning off now because it can only be used in campsites, but not wild camping across Europe which I do. The roof rack is perfect for my solar panels though.

      Nice! We always found the same regarding the clearance, a major disadvantage but as you say its not a 'real' 4x4

    As an ex taxi driver I did 340000 in a rover 75 with bmw diesel. Still going strong but only changed because of age constraints by taxi licencing. Also had Ford mondeo driven to similar mileage, again no problems but wrecked by a drunk driver. Then had a skoda Octavia L & K 2.0 with dsg. No probs with box but engine began to smoke at 220000. Now currently have bmw 320d auto. No probs and just on 182000. Can’t fault the BMW engine but the VW block, not so good.

    Wow, the discovery is the worst when it comes to reliability, will trust the Yeti more than the discovery.

    • @hypotheticallywhatiskyle
      @hypotheticallywhatiskyle Před 8 měsíci +6

      That’s a wildly uneducated statement. I could think of dozens of vehicles undeniably less reliable than any model of discovery. All of ours have been great. Only had one crank snap across 12 vehicles and over 3 million combined miles of towing plant equipment.

      I’ve owned various land rovers for over 35 years , the 90” turbos and defenders are great for off roading , shooting , farm work etc , for reliability the engines were ok but the bodywork literally fell to bits including the interiors , the mark 1 discovery I had was really good off road but was absolutely gutless on the road and again fell to pieces as you was driving it including engine problems ( bear in mind it had a rebuilt engine fitted before I purchased it ) , the Rangerover was the worst for me regarding reliability L322 V8 Diesel , the engine has fantastic power but the rest of the motor just fell apart as per usual with constant problems with suspension , brakes , turbos failing , trim falling off and fault codes every week I drove it which was a shame as it was so comfortable to drive , 3 years ago i purchased a 2 litre diesel yeti 4x4 and it’s done over 40k with no faults at all ( I purchased it with 87k ) , I have to say it’s such a nice reliable car to drive and run , I’m even looking at purchasing another one for my wife as she loves driving it.

    The 1.9tdi Yeti will do 400k easily enough. The 2.0's probably won't. Different beasts. The 2.0 gearbox is pretty much guaranteed not to anyway. Those are soft.

    • @DarksideDevelopments
      @DarksideDevelopments  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Wouldn't say it's guaranteed not to, considering it's about 4k away from hitting 400k miles
