I think perhaps we have seen the best of Coronation Street here! Loved it. The mix of location filming and the old sets - with the best script writing - perfect. To see our old favourite actors (somewhat younger) is a treat!
Steve - I think you are absolutely right! I've been a loyal Corrie viewer for most of my 50 years on the planet. But even I am having to face facts - Coronation Street has been absolute shite for the last 20 years and is now literally getting worse by the episode. Serial killers, paedo grooming gangs, gay rape... sensationalist crimes for the sake of ratings and headlines. Pathetic - and no substitute for the wonderful scripts and actors of yesteryear. Modern Corrie has lost all heart and humour - Sad.
2:04 Billy Walker fluffs his line totally, but they carry on regardless. Not many re-takes back then! I prefer the vintage, rough and ready Corrie over today's slick - and utterly soulless - version, any day!
Perhaps it’s only me who’s noticed this but watching a lot of episodes from the 1970s and you either got Albert Tatlock or Len Fairclough or any other character bad mouthing society or even the Ken Barlow character coming out with patronising moralising on Britain and what’s wrong with it. Now watch any episode in the 1980s during Margaret Thatcher’s Iron rule which saw a big rise in unemployment and crime and poverty and yet throughout, not a single word of negativity was uttered by any character throughout the entire decade. Coronation Street was very much a Tory propaganda soap.

Maggie Jones, what a great actor..Loved her portrayal of Blanche. Ken Farrington was brilliant.
"Jean Alexander(Auntie Wainwright)
and Kathy Staff(Nora Batty)
in Weatherfield before they moved to Holmfirth."-🤔.

Elsie Tanner, Rita Littlewood, Bet Lynch. What did they all ever see in Len Fairclough?
Sarah I wondered that myself.. .I'm guessing he was a gruffer version of Mike Baldwin but both he and Ray got on my nerves!
Yes, Len kind of came across as a bit of a Perv sometimes
Well Elsie Tanner virtually rejected him for 20 plus years.
Good point Harry Banks - by rejecting Len as a romantic partner, Elsie did show good taste in the end!
Haha, folk used to say that Elsie and Len had a special relationship but I just saw it as him chasing her and getting pushed back time and time again.
Norah Batty in the Rovers, who woulda thought it!
See what you mean but she was not Nora Batty back then😊

So true. This episode is a masterpiece!!
Amen - this golden era for Corrie is perfection, never to be matched in recent years, let alone bettered!
