Umbrella Entertainment's June releases are god-tier science fiction, a weird arthouse thing with mad old people and a small Australian horror movie which is amazingly efficient at building dread.

Primer is one of the best science fiction films ever made. If they had twenty million for special effects, it could not have been better made. It's one of those films that stays with you for years after.

That it was made on a $7K budget is impressive.

… never been a fan of, Primer. Good science fiction movies need a big budget. Earnest and low budget, doesn’t automatically equal, good.

@@richardhart9204 No, good science fiction movies absolutely do not require a big budget:
      Moon 2009
      The Man from Earth 2007
      Timecrimes 2007
      Prospect 2018
      Her 2013
      I Am Mother 2019
      Stalker 1979

SciFi should be first and foremost about the story, everything else comes after.

Like you, I was _very_ impressed by Tarkovsky´s film, giving us a unique cinematic vision from its literary source, _Roadside Picnic,_ by the Strugatsky brothers.
The film adaptation is definitely enhanced by reading the book as well.
By the way, _Stalker_ is free to watch on CZcams on the channel of its Russian production house.

@@brianhiles8164 Thank you for your comment. I was not aware it was adaptation. If you happen to like Russian sci fi I can recommend The Amphibian Man, the highest grossing Russian film at the time. It is also on CZcams with English subs. I saw it at a festival of Russian Sci fi here in NYC long ago, where I also saw Stalker, Solaris and Andrei Rublev, and have never forgotten it.

Harmony Korine only made one good movie, "Kids", though it's a rough watch and definitely not for everyone. However, he had something to say and it was thought provoking.
Everything else reminds me of that kid in high school who does outrageous things just to get attention.

Which ones am I interested in? You'll Probably Never Find me, which you've intrigued me. And naturally, it's filmed in the serial killer capital of Australia. Although I've got the Arrow double feature disc, I've yet to see Upstream Colour. I love Primer, I've seen it a few times and could still do with a better explanation of what's happening. I do enjoy that type of science-fiction, where you have to think about what's going on.

    Great choices!
I'm so glad you just posted this, because I watched two movies I didn't know existed, and don't know how I didn't know!!
    1- Candy (1968)
This one is very of its time, but how did I *not* know about a farcical comedy with Walter Matthau, John Astin, James Coburn, Marlon Brando, and Richard Burton? Made by an Italian film company, and I suppose hidden in a vault for 50 years. It sells itself as being one of those 'innocent girl moving from sexy situation to sexy situation' farces, but it's really much more of a 1960s journey of self-discovery - with a lot of satire along the way.
2- Demons of the Mind (1971/2)
How is it possible that **Hammer Films** I've never seen are still surfacing??!!?
A few interesting character actors, but it stars *none* of Hammers Big four, and it's more of an honest historical Gothic. It's really quite low-key good.
Remind me of Sheridan de LeFanu. LOTS of mood music.
I know that *you* may have heard of them, but I needed to tell you to check them out in case you hadn't.
I had wanted to talk to you about how interesting the video you just made is, but making this comment about film recommendations seemed serendipitous when I was just going to email you about them.
Umbrella just keeps putting out impressive stuff, handled in really good ways. I think that Primer box is a great way to go.

Terry: "TrashHumpers" the way you described it sounds absolutely repulsive.

After several viewings, I realized I needed a Primer for Primer. It left more unsaid. The guys talked like Scientists. I throw in the towel, I would settle for a commentary by an enlightened mentor. As for, Upstream Color. It did not "wow" me. OK but not a knockout.

I've had a *.flv of "thrash humpers" sitting somewhere on a harddrive but have yet to watch it. I like Harmony Korine a lot: "Gummo" and "Kids" are both good i.m.o. (if you like that sort of thing) and recently I saw "Julien Donkey-boy" which I thought was very good too. However I can't get with "Spring breakers" I don't know why but I think I just turned it off. Maybe I should retry. "Trash humpers" I have a feeling is also something I probably won't really enjoy. I feel I'm forgetting a Harmony Korine movie. I also think I met him once in Greenwich Village in NYC but I'm not sure. He looked just like him.
