Jim Burns is the artist.
Mate! Thank you for this!!!
I thought it was Des Hanely?
Love the old rtb01 marines and the strike force. Best era of 40k in my opinion
100% the best era! 😀
Some of these guys actually don't look bad. I don't mind the more "cartoony" proportions. I say this with no nostalgia bias either, since these models are older than me.
Honestly this is an amazing box set. Think it might be the only box GW did that sold more than 10 marines for the same price lol 😂
The minis which had separate legs and torso's were from an additional blister pack.. helmeted and bare head, walking legs and open stance legs... I always thought the tread on the marines boots was a nice touch by GW... at £15 a box when I bought mina back in the day these were cool.. lack of weapon options other than kitbashing the old plastic beakies was a bummer then they started releasing further mk7 full sculpt metal minis and then such as devastators etc. Strike force were my all time favourites
Yeah it was such a great box. Totally agree about the weapons options although they did look cool with the beakies rocket launcher and flamer
A blast from the past great review
Cheers mate!
So I'm really excited to see this video but I had to make this comment Just for future reference. When you see something listed is MK you pronounce the word as Mark so that would be Mark 7 power armor or the beakies from Rogue Trader would be Mark 6 power armor
Ahh sorry what did it say? M…k?
jim burns is the artist!
Thank you kind sir 👍😀
When gaming and miniature painting was affordable and fun.
Yes indeed!!!!
Great find! I am absolutely stunning to see something like that in such good condition, surprised the models are unassembled and unpainted.
I'm usually against collecting models for the sake of collecting (they should be painted)... that being said, in this case, I think keeping this set as it is would be a great way to preserve a piece of the hobby's history.
Also, it might be worth quite a bit further down the road.
Yeah mate me to I would normally build and paint them. But I can’t bring myself to do this box lol 😂
Lovely old box, full of the awesomeness that enticed kids into the hobby. Indont think any space marines since these did ball and socket shoulders, I think only the eldar ranges did
Yes this was the last ball and socket space marines
Interestingly, the models that you ran the comparison on were usually the models that were equipped with the heavy weapon, most likely a missile launcher. You didn't note if there was any weapons variation in the box or if it was all bolters. Also when you said you had never seen the split torso before, I am presuming you mean with regards to the metal figures? I ask because after the second Ed starter kit I bought a box of marines which were plastic and were arms, legs, torsos and of course heads. That was mid to late 90's.
Hey there. Thanks for the post. So yes the box only has Bolter guys no heavy weapons. Back in the day when this box was released the only heavy weapons that would work with these guys were the heavy weapons from the old RBT01 box set.
Yes regarding the split torso I did mean metal miniatures, I did t make that very clear did I lol 😂
Great video! Awful lot of box fondling going on at the beginning 😅. Normally I think it's weird when people keep models unassembled and unpainted in the packaging but in this case, since you have so many more to paint yet, and this box set is rather unique in how it was packaged, I'd say just move it to the bottom of your list 👍
Yeah deffo leaving these guys for a fair while. And yes I love a good box Fondling 😂
I think the artist is Jim Burns
Cheers mate. I’ve ad a couple people it could have been but Jim Burns comes up the most 👍👌
@@JonnyWatsonGaming It looks like his style i know he did afew pictures for warhammer, i know he definitely did the art cover for the game Space Crusade

Dude! Your first major comments are to lament the change in Box Art and whinge about the removal of planet killing polystyrene. A true cultist of an uncaring Imperium. What I will say, is the contents of the boxes these days are better value. The box art is designed to set the mood, such as the piety of the Sororitas box, or the brooding power of the Marines v the threat to existence Tyranids of the bugs. Or even the limited release boxes depicting the epic combat between races. Unless you are talking about the Combat Patrol boxes that have the literature inside an ecologically sound contents box with a picture of the force on the face. Nostalgia is not better, it is just entertaining.
Give me back my polystyrene trays! 😂 regarding the art work it is my opinion that it has got worse over the years, more digitally created now and less hand drawn. It’s just a matter of taste.
