    A lot of people dont know you can more or less convert a standard SP-01 safety to a Shadow by simply removing the firing pin block plunger and spring, then replace the FPB lifter arm in the sear cage with either a pre-B wide sear or CGW shim bushing. I modded my SP-01 to the point it is better than a Shadow 2, it's basically a Czechmate at this point. If you're interested in getting peak performance from your SP-01 and don't mind shelling out a bit of cash, here's a list of what I changed in mine;
    ~Replaced barrel with Cajun Gun Works fluted and threaded barrel and installed a compensator on it
    ~Installed CGW Accubushing and hand-fit it to the new barrel
    ~Replaced mainspring and guide rod with DPM Systems 3-stage recoil buffer and installed a CZC frame buffer pad
    ~Drifted the rear sight out and installed a dovetail optic mount for a red dot (I went with a Shield RMS 4-moa dot)
    ~Replaced stock grips with CZC short grips and flared magwell
    ~Converted to SAO by removing disconnector and installing CGW Standard Package kit with SAO flat face trigger and race hammer
    ~As mentioned, I deleted the firing pin block for a much shorter reset
    ~Mirror polished every single mating surface in the gun for a Teflon-smooth action
    ~Installed Cross Armory pic rail mounted thumb rest (I didn't want to drill and tap the gun) with custom molded thermoplastic grip surface for maximum muzzle flip control
    ~Shimmed the sear cage to the frame to prevent any rearward creep when pulling the trigger, it makes the pull much more crisp by eliminating any spring in the trigger
    With all these mods this gun goes from already great to utterly phenomenal, the trigger has only .050" thousandths of total travel, with .002" thou of creep from the wall and a 1.8 pound pull weight (I also slightly cut and polished the hammer hooks on the race hammer and also polished the adjustable sear in the CGW trigger kit), and with the other mods like the thumb rest, DPM buffer, frame buffer and the compensator, the muzzle flip is almost non-existent. Everything combined makes this the fastest, flattest, most accurate handgun I've ever shot, I'm getting sub-.15 second splits between shots and can land 6 shots on a target at 20 yards in one second, it's stupid fast.

    • @TheExplosiveGuy
      @TheExplosiveGuy Před rokem

      Keep in mind that you can remove the disconnector to convert the trigger to SAO too, if it's just a range toy the DA feature isn't needed and the trigger can be greatly improved in SAO. And polishing all your moving internals should be your first step, like the trigger bar, slide rails, trigger, sides of the hammer, anything that moves. If you get the CGW Standard package (for SAO guns, the Pro package is for DA/SA) with their adjustable SAO trigger you can get the reset way down, and the race hammer and adjustable sear make the trigger pull extremely crisp. You can go one step further and remove the firing pin block plunger, and either replace the sear with a wider one, swap out the firing pin block lifter arm for a spacer, or cut the leg off the FPB lifter arm so it can't interfere with the trigger bar. It will drop the reset distance from around .200" to about .060", my SP-01 breaks at around 1.8 pounds with .060" of travel from reset to fired, it's identical to the TSO or other CZ SAO premium race guns now. Also pay close attention to the sear cage, see if there is a gap between the back of the cage and the frame that closes up as you pull on the trigger. It's unnoticeable when you have the stock trigger, but once you put a CGW kit in it will create some obvious slop/spring in the break if it's moving. If it does move (mine had about .015" of movement) you will want to look into shimming the gap inside the C-shaped recesses in the back of the sear cage to prevent it from springing back. I used two pieces of thick paper from a packaging label cut into 3/32" wide squares which I superglued into place, it's a rather simple fix. I've been chasing perfection in this trigger for months now, and with all the methods I explained here, I dare say I've attained it.

    I think I might take the SP-01 with the CGW upgrades because I want a “general purpose” type of CZ that can do every little thing at least more than adequately enough, rather than a pistol that’s perfect for competition but not good for battle or carry. My thinking might be flawed though… However, thank you for making a video that actually answers my question!
    Edit: I might actually just get the CZ-75 SP-01 Competition that just came out.

      Depends on what you're using it for. If you're competing a Shadow is a better option because of the lack of a firing pin block. You can dry fire it over and over without needing an o-ring or snapcap. And if you are a serious competitor, you'll be dry firing a lot. The Shadows are worth it for that reason alone, IMO.
      But if you're just a gun owner and not competing, then yeah the P120 is an awesome option. Clones ae good.

    I just bought a safety model sp01 a couple weeks ago. Despite watching about a million videos on it before buying, and about a third of those saying about the same thing on the $550 price point, the best I could find for a brand new pistol was $613 shipped on gunbroker. After shooting it for the first time, I'm not the least upset about the higher than expected cost. The gun shoots amazing out of the box, but I'm still gonna throw a bunch of CGW parts at it anyway.

    I purchased the G-Fight gen 3 laser trainer earlier this year and really enjoy my dry fire training.
    You had mentioned about protecting the firing pin safety with a snap cap / O-ring. Wondering if you might have the answer to a compatibility question with the laser trainer cartridge. Will the firing pin safety mechanism in my firearm keep the firing pin from engaging with the laser trainer cartridge?
    Would I still need to use a snap cap in addition to the laser cartridge? Or does the laser cartridge also protect the firearm while dry firing?

      Shadow 2 (or any Shadow really) will have a better *out of the box* trigger than an SP01, due to the lack of a firing pin block. Once you upgrade them, however, they both get pretty damn close. The Shadow will always have a better trigger but an average shooter wont be able to tell the difference if the SP01 is fully upgraded.

      Nothing, if I have to use my carry in self defense I would not like to have the defense going after me saying I modded my firearm to be more deadly, to kill faster or whatever they come up with.
      Same goes with the ammo in the firearm when carrying. I carry what the local officers use.

    Why the hell do you pop up on my feed just now? I watched tons of CZ videos maybe 3 months ago.
    The trigger has less to do without the firing pin block and the decocker. I'm looking for a decocker so I can work on the DA trigger pull without needing two hands and I like that there is no safety besides the DA pull. At the same time if it's such a drag to service, the freaking roll pin is still there...what about breaking trigger return springs on the SP-01 vs. the SP-01 Shadow?
    I rather invest the money I'd save over a Shadow 2 in ammo and range time. I subbed your butt.

    • @b0men
      @b0men  Před 4 lety +2

      I think the reason the decockers are a drag to service is because of the sear cage, not the firing pin block. The FPB is whatever. The sear cage on a decocker is a pain compared to a shadow.
